Sunday Coffee and Darts; Crowe on Hot Seat at KNBR; KGO-TV Boss Cibrowski is a Powerless Doofus

Bistro Coffee Mug Two Tone Black Red _D at Retro Planet

THE BIG ZOO at KGO-TV in the morning; the continued allowance for Reggie Aqui and his enablers to act like school children; is a direct indictment on Circle7 GM, Tom Cibrowski, a guy who came from ABC with a decent reputation but has done NOTHING at 900 Front.

The KGO staffers --most of them-- view Cibrowski as a do-nothing leader and largely there to funnel relationships with NY and the Bay Area.

That's it.

Cibrowski hasn't really done anything. He hasn't said a word to Aqui, the morning clown, to tone done the circus act; he has been relatively mum about making sure his star anchor wait in the wings without a contract extension; he continues to LOSE key personnel to NBC in San Jose without the slightest bit of interest --Cibrowski is nothing but a high-priced figurehead at KGO and a dumb one at that. Disney malfeasance, full speed ahead.

*KGO Radio needs a STAR. A modern-day Owen Spann or Jim Eason. KGO has been lagging in the ratings. It has a couple of good people in Pat Thurston and John Rothmann but not a star to build programming around. A quarterback if you will. Until that happens, there's no upside at KGO.

*Back to KGO-TV --if they continue to put on Nordstrom women cosmetics clerks Sunday morning as anchors, there's a problem.

QUICK DARTS:

*Allen Martin: the 20-year scowl at 855 Battery.

*Veronica De La Cruz: if she were anyone else she'd have been shipped to Tacoma ions ago.

*Another guy that has jumped the shark: NBC Bay Area's Raj Mathai.

*On the hot seat: KNBR PD, Jeremiah Crowe, Cumulus officially hates his ass and for good reason, two words why: Lee Hammer.

*Darya Folsom on Weekends in a short story: gotta feed the family.

*The "Ronn Owens Report" --as soon as they call off cruises full time, bye bye Lowenstein.

*Mickey Luckoff, the guy last laughed during the days of the Carter administration.

*When the SF School district gets more numbers then 95.7 FM, The Game, yeah, talk about irrelevence.

  1. btw Rich, Hooked On Golf signed off this morning for the final time. 27 years on KNBR weekends(!). The guys were getting up there, a good time to check out with Covid, etc. I enjoyed the show. Sad another longtime institution is gone.

    1. Glad someone recognized John and Mitch. John called the winner of this weekend's PGA Championship.

  7. It's hard to listen to KGO at times. Today Pat had a guest who was extolling the virtues of a ballot proposition that will raise medical malpractice verdicts to make trial lawyers richer and health insurance premiums higher. In the old days, stations were required to offer equal time to both sides of a political issue. As a result, you'd get a live debate that made for pretty good radio. Your buddy Ronn hosted many of them. With deregulation, you get a situation like the one we had today, where a slick guest took advantage of an ill-prepared host. He told a series of half-truths and she just went along with them, never raising any meaningful questions. The funniest half-truth was that malpractice victims are limited to $250,000 in damages. No, the $250,000 "cap" applies to non-economic damages, in other words punitive awards. There's no limit on actual damages. But the guy never mentioned that, and Pat's producer hadn't prepped her on that. So the listener was left to think that the most a malpractice victim could get was $250,000.

Pat also wasn't aware that in states where the cap was raised, it forced a lot of solo-practitioners to close, and reduced access to health care. You'd think that as a big time liberal, Pat would be angry about that, but she didn't know. Hopefully, as the election nears, KGO will do a better job on controversial topics. Either have both sides in the studio at the same time, or prepare the host to ask insightful questions rather than behave like a cheerleader.

    1. Let me guess...you like KSFO, and they've never ever had both sides of any issue on. But yeah, what you said.
