415 Media Exclusive: NBC Considered 'Major Overhaul' in Bay Area; Nobody Immune; But Backed off In The End

The Corporate Brass back in NY responsible for the massive layoffs affecting NBC and its O and O personnel, considered a thorough, almost 20% "across-the-board" cut of KNTV, NBC Bay Area, it's O and down in San Jose, according to a well-placed broadcast source.


I LEARNED, through the source, that the would-be cuts included virtually ALL NBC  Bay Area weekend production staff! But as they, "there's more!"

The source told me cuts to NBC Bay Area included some of its BIGGEST names on the news set, including noted anchors and reporters. It didn't take place because senior staff in NY told the big suits such an action would, in effect, "ruin" the peacock's position in the Bay Area and make it "difficult" for NBC to maintain its presence in the market. A market NBC wants to "vastly integrate." Whatever that means.
