Someone at KRON with Game: Weather Anchor Lawrence Karnow Talks the Talk

I HAVE TO MENTION THIS GUY, a Bay Area veteran weather anchor, Lawrence Karnow, you remember him now at KRON and before, KPIX? Of course you do. I would hope so because Karnow's 20-year run here is as steady as they get.

Karnow's weather anchoring makes KRON watchable. I wish they would highlight him more because he's too good, like mechanically good. His frequent explanation of the weather, combined with an almost robotic-like delivery is first rate, network quality. Karnow, like Darren Peck, is also quite adept at telling viewers, explaining really, how the weather works and how it will hit the area. He is always ahead of the satellite pictures, that Mr. Karnow.

I wish we could see more Karnow; hell, when KRON has its A-team on, there's lots to watch and enjoy. Too bad they couldn't do this 24/7 and too bad Karnow wasn't promoted more.

I know I'm asking for a lot.

  1. Larry is one of the few bright stars at KRON. Too bad he works for a station that creates newscasts as if they're doing a neighborhood show in someone's backyard.

  2. I saw this broadcast, too. I agree, Karnow was very good last night. The field reporting was marginal, with unknown-to-me reporters and were very few to cover the very large areas of the fires. Perhaps no tv station has the personnel to cover the three command centers along with the various evacuations happening, which can be far from the command centers.

  3. What is up with the new station setting with the two anchors?

  4. The best meteorologist in the Bay Area: Kyla Grogan. Polish, grace, and she just *tells me the weather.* No theatrics, no digressions and weird personal musings a la Bill "Biden" Martin, no theatrics a la Darren Peck. Just the weather. Thank you.

(Honorable mention: the always reliable Sandhya Patel.)

Would have said Brian Hackney was No. 1 were he still functioning as a meteorologist. Alas, the suits at KPIX are even dumber than suits usually are.

  5. I've always liked Karnow's work. Solid, and he seems like he's a nice guy too.
