Monday Morning Muse; Yeah, We Have Weather So The Whole Bay Area Goes Nuts; Bunger Delirious on KCBS (Again); KQED Factoid; Krkow Gets Pissed Off at Smurph on KNBR; KPIX 'VDLC Update

Broadcast, computer, media, mobile, radio, tv, wifi icon

SURE ENOUGH...

*WE GET a significant weather event like thunder and lightning, oh boy!, and the local TV/radio yahoos go bonkers. Hey, it happens! And yes, it's different, but for god's sake, we react as if there was a second coming and boom goes the dynamite --we've had this and we've had other events, like snow at sea level. Our weather is changing. Maybe there's something to that climate change deal. Do a hard 3 minutes on that as opposed to golly-geeing every two minutes!

*Yep, Stan Bunger was downright delirious as usual on KCBS, Bunger should go take a career change outlook and become a meteorologist --that's all he talks about --the news? What's that?

*Kim Wonderley: the giggler in her later years.

*A reader chides for using Dr. Kevorkian;;"he died in 2011"--I know he died! That was the point of the post. Holy crapper.

*That was a clearly pissed-off Mike Krukow on his weekly schmooze with the Marin moron, Brian Murphy of KNBR, who talked about "mound visits" and why the Giants looked awful this past weekend. Good Kruk, I'm glad you're finally hip on this schmuck who kisses more ass than Richard Simmons.

*KQED once again is dealing with morale issues which I think has been the deal since the beginning of KQED (radio and TV)

*Oh my god, there's lightning! Yeah, and the streets were wet too! Call the FBI!

*Between commercials and traffic, there's roughly about 12 minutes of actual news in a KCBS hour.

*Veronica De La Cruz, update: her latest "ailment" appears to be medical but the troops, management and rank and file, are not buying it. Future post: When will she (VDLC) be gonno? Sooner rather than later.

  1. Going forward, any weather-talker who says "triple digits" should be executed. Three times.

    2. Ha! You're comment made me think about what bothers different people. Well done. Really, on a miniscule scale I learned something. Grassyass.

  2. Wonder what the local would say about this weather fact if it happened here in the bay area:

  3. These weather stories are huge news, actually. Lightning starts fires. Triple digit temperatures trigger huge demand on power and the resultant blackouts. IF you don't think these things are important, you just aren't thinking.

  4. I live in a heavily forested area, narrow roads and poor cellular coverage once the power goes out.
Things are very dry out there, and yes, I am concerned about lightning strikes and the resulting fires.

KGO’s Mark Thompson hit an all time high today in the boredom category. Just reads news off internet websites. Ugh!

  6. What's amazing is KRON didn't have people calling in for 3 hours saying "I saw lightning then sky go boom boom!"

  7. Great entries, yesterday and today, Rich.

  8. It was interesting watching KPIX yesterday. Hackney who actually like as a weather/science guy appeared FORCED to be quiet as the other two, Heggen and Peck explained how this storm occurred. I have liked to have heard Hackney give his two cents but it seems he was told to stick to anchoring.

    1. Peck's presentation of the weather on KPIX is thoroughly enjoyable. He is upbeat and engaging, has a pleasant personality, and appears to be having fun doing his job. He not only tells me what the weather is going to be, but why it's going to be that way. For a mini education in weather, he makes it a practical and meaningful application of everyday science. I think he was a great choice to work opposite of Hackney. They seem to be able to trade trivia and factoids making the whole broadcast more interesting and they are both likable. With Goodrich and O'Donnell added in, it is a harmonious group, they all work so well together.

    2. And he's learned how to button a 2 button suit. I hope he tells Hackney how it works.

  9. Brian Hackney looks much younger when he’s not wearing glasses. Wonder why he has to wear glasses now???

    1. @2:28 - I have been told Brian wears glasses to help improve his vision.

    2. But Hackney's glasses make him look like he has something wrong -like an eye infection-very distracting.

  10. - Even RL along the shoreline may have to be subjected to PG&E blackouts. Ms. Craft has a point there, Rich.
    - When each side of PIX is fed up - the cool side being Liz, Jules, Maria, etc, and the uncool side being Martin, the Sports Pair, and so on - then it's time for VDLC to go.

  11. There is a person I know slacking off each week claiming my baby is sick or I need to baby-sit as their excuse to not come to work and work at home and the result, someone is at home (not the person I know) babysitting the kids while the person uses company paid time to do outside personal business where they get paid. The company knows about it and cannot do anything even when another report it to the company with proof because this is San Francisco allowing them to do so just like VDLC getting paid 12 months and only shows up for 10 or less adding on how much time off has been taking off each week.

  12. Might be a good time for ol Ronnnnnnnnnn to do his bay cruise and watch the light show!

  13. Kruk kisses Larry Baer's ass on a regular basis. The reason he
was pissed is that he is a homer and doesn't like anyone saying
negative things about the Giants -- even if warranted.

  14. Wish kgo would get rid of Nikki and thompson. Then, I would listen to kgo from 6 a.m. to 9 pm, like I use to over the 50 + years of listening.

  15. Speaking of KQED, has anybody else noticed the great new reporter on PBS Newshour -- Stephanie Sy ? She has presence, sort of like the late, great Gwen Ifill. I'd love to see more of her. She could anchor the whole program as far as I'm concerned.

  16. I wouldn't be too hard on Stan Bunger. I think he's doing a great job. Kevin "the Rat" is the one I wish they'd silence.
