Longitme KCBS weekend sports anchor, Joe Salvatore, is the first name talent to be laid off; as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic's economic jolt--Salvatore confirmed his ouster on his Facebook page.
Salvatore will not be alone as a major flurry of layoffs can be expected sooner rather than later; especially those people in part time positions and those who anchor sports or weather.
As advertisers cut their budgetary spending on media, more jobs will be given the 86 treatmjent.
UPDATE: 4: 57 PM PT...
Weeknight anchor, Bruce MacGowan just posted on his Facebook page his job was eliminated.
NOTE: Watch for a MAJOR purge at KNBR and 95.7 FM (all-sports, "The Game", soon.
That sucks. But I have a hard time believing he will be out of work for long. He is too good to be off the air.
ReplyDeleteHope I'm wrong but it seems the 3 host sportstalk format may be at risk.
ReplyDeleteLund #1 gonzo. BJL #2. That would be the start at 680. Other's to come later (Willard?). At 95.7 I can see the evening crew going first. Covey and the other idiot.
ReplyDeleteAdd Sherry Brown to the furlough list.
ReplyDeleteSeems as if radio is the worst industry for job security.
ReplyDeleteToo bad. Always liked Bruce MacGowan at KNBR. He always seemed knowledgable and not full of himself. One of the real good guys.
ReplyDeleteAaron Axelsen is out at 105.3, after 23 years. Merc has the story from his Twitter post. Really bummed.
