A Force."
She retired at ABC7 (KGO) a few years ago, seems just yesterday, but what a force she was. Probably one of the most powerful figures at KGO, as I have learned, almost as influential as Van Amburg.
Caroline Tyler wasn't just one of your run-of-the-mill anchors. Often times she was asked by ABC bigwigs about staff personnel --was she ok with a certain hire? Was she kosher with some talent coming in from Denver. That may sound routine but it isn't. So valued was Tyler's opinion, ABC and Disney higher-ups held, VIP, closed-door meetings to get her take. They were intensely interested.
Tyler often times was surprised by her unbelievable juice and considering the powers that be involved Disney and ABC, that's BIG TIME today. Only Tyler never pushed the envelope nor did she take advantage of her pull. She was tough at times, yes, but fair. It was that reason, among many, why she was admired and respected by the brass at 900 Front.
I always thought she was a little nasal.
ReplyDeleteI agree anonymous, but you can not deny the point Rich makes here...she was a silent power house much like Big Nate's Barbecue was in the bay area BBQ scene! Big respect Carolyn and Nate the Great!
ReplyDeleteIf she was tough, how come she never got the main anchor spot given to Terrilyn Joe, some Hispanic decent reporter from KPIX and the one before Ama currently in L.A.
ReplyDeleteWin the black audience and you win the ratings game - most loyal viewers.
