Nikki Don't Lose That Number

I'M NOT ANTI-NIKKI MEDORO in the KGO Morning; quite the contrary but her initial program is so all over the map and disjointed, there's no way it/she survives without major emphasis change.

Medoro is not being highlighted here. Her drivetime show is drawing people away. There's no official ratings yet because the show is only a week old but there's the obvious to be heard and seen: she has to slow down. She has to concentrate on a specific topic as opposed to racing from here to there, to another topic and that's a tough deal right now. Her early pains could be handled by a good producer but that's not on the table.

There's no ebb and flow. Guests are either on far too long or miniscule. Calls from listeners drag on and on and on. Medoro needs a good editor and that ain't the deal so far.

Again, a morning drive show is a delicate balancing act and there needs to be some direction. There isn't any on KGO from 6-10 AM. Medoro needs to concentrate on ONE topic and diss trying to go from one to the other. And she needs to think out what she's centering on: droning on and on and on and on about your kids may be your cool, but not to commuters stuck in traffic on 580.

Just today, out of left field, she decided to offer business advice. What? First off, she's no business expert or stock market figure so why should we invest time to hear her reasoning? It's ludicrous. Nik, sick to issues in the news. And be judicious with your time. The everyday talk now has to do with the Coronavirus so keep on that because that's the water-cooler mark now. You can mix in family from time to time but not every five minutes or else you'll lose the audience. It's a hard choice now.

  1. There is no there, there. No amount of good producing could change it.

  2. If the requirement is “no there, there”, then Christine Craft could fill her slot, no?

    1. Christine is very intelligent and a very good talk show host. You might not agree with her, but there is definitely "a there, there".

    2. Are they real?

    3. Thanks 4:45, alias Christine Craft

    4. Dear 9:38, your detective skills are de minimus. I didn't write the post at 4:45. In any event, let me put your fears to rest. I would be a horrid morning radio host. I'm not a morning person, and I have no interest in being one.Got it? good.

    5. I wrote the post at 4:45. I use to listen to Christine when she was on KGO, I didn't always agree with her, although often I did, but I always found her show to be interesting.

      Hanne (Hanna) Concord.

  3. Send her over to KCBS to read the news. Get her off the air at KGO, amateur hour. And take her old partner Charlie Franklin with her.

  4. Wow. I almost never agree with you Rick. I'm a frequent anonymous (and accordingly never published) commenter.

And then you hit this spot-on observation right out of the park: "droning on and on and on and on about your kids may be your cool, but not to commuters stuck in traffic on 580."

Yup. Basic Broadcasting 101. Nick and the kids all think it's just about yapping -- because that's the only guidance they've ever gotten.

And that's why terrestrial radio sucks. Wannabes who think it looks easy and anyone can do it.

  5. She's not a morning drive host. They don't give a shit about the station. They'll put anyone on who can read the news pleasantly. Someone probably told them "there's no woman doing news in morning drive!" and they probably thought that mattered. Nice person but no business hosting a morning drive news. SHe can't carry that water.

  6. Jeez! Nikki is another reason I can no longer listen to KGO. At least when she was with Chip Franklin I only had to blank off three hours. With so much insightful resources in the Bay Area, it this the best they can do?

    Thank God for podcasts.

    1. They don't care. Look who's doing the "do"! Has beens and bean counters. They'll try anything that's cheap and she's probably really cheap.

  7. Good lord. Give her a break! It will take months to settle into a groove and establish the right mix and patterns.

She's an excellent broadcaster, intelligent and mature. She'll be more than fine.

  8. Not sure who is worse, she or Bret Burkhart. The answer is: Mark Thompson.

  9. She's just another example that KGO would rather give their money to stockholders than talent. She's too attractive for radio but not talented enough for T.V. (or radio)
