Jim Eason |
Jim Eason is alive and well enjoying retirement in the Sierra foothills--the longtime, former KGO Radio talk host had a terrific run on the old 810 AM juggernaut in the 70's and 80's. I keep in touch with Eason many times--he's a frequent reader of 415 Media.
I was usually not in line with Eason's politics but he was a hoot to listen to. Eason made the 1-4 PM time slot on KGO appointment radio. His interviews and sense of humor were always very popular with the old KGO crowd. He, Owen Spann, and Art Finley (Mayor Art) were some of the very BEST talk-radio hosts in the country.
Here's a good tidbit for you: Eason was a total professional--he would never say this on-air, but he thoroughly DISLIKED Ronn Owens. He thought Ronn came off as a phony. I agree. I don't want quote Eason directly but let's just say he was always skeptical of Ronn's ass-kiss relationships and BS meter. If Eason is ever more willing to embellish on this, I will provide you, my readers, a 415 Media Extra.

Couldn't agree with you more. Jim Eason was the very best. I seldom
ReplyDeleteagreed with him but he always had good rationale for his positions and he was flat out funny. Glad to learn he is still on this side of the turf
"Behave yourself"- great show windup
While I hold my cards more to the left of Jim, I enjoyed listening to his program as well. It was pleasant listening. Interesting topics discussed politely and respectfully for the most part. Contrast with the hard-right-wing morning duo they have on now. Those guys are pretty much unlistenable. As far as the issue of friction w/Ronn Owens, I expect that sort of thing is normal in the talk-radio business among the hosts. Nobody's going to be a talk show unless they have a big ego. So a bevy of hosts at the same radio station, all with big egos, you know there's gotta be some friction. Comes w/the territory.
ReplyDeleteJim Eason: A class act. The good old days of radio. Back in the day you could tune into KGO 810 any time of day or night for good listening.
ReplyDeleteJim Eason was solid gold. Intelligent and engaging...sometimes a bit opinionated...supposed to be, right? His list of guests were outstanding... especially Andy Fraknoi the astronomy professor from Foothill College. I would never miss those shows.
ReplyDeleteI thought Jim Eason had returned to his home state in the South. was it North Carolina ???
ReplyDeleteI remember Jim's very interesting talk to our radio class at KFJC Foothill College in 1975. He asked how many of us were serious about a broadcasting career. I did not raise my hand out of fear of jinxing things. LOL--I got hired at a big station later that year and have been steadily on air for nearly 50 years now!
ReplyDeleteListened to Eason for many years until he seemed to morph into just another bitter right-wing host. Whenever he crosses my mind anymore, I'm reminded of his exchange with Loretta "Hotlips" Swit.
ReplyDeleteI remember the show but can’t remember which exchange that stood out? Can you please share? KGO got me thru a lot, which can kind of attribute to me divorcing my husband. I was getting too smart and the Ex wasn’t in approval when I got a mind of my own. Lol. But Jim Eason was the best even tho I’m his opposite in politics. So funny and helped mold me into the person I am today. On how to discuss politics by listening and not talking down too there’s who I didn’t agree with. Unlike today. Is there a website to listen to old kgo shows? Please share your story about “Hot Lips”. Thank you in advance.
