Oscars 2020, Uh, I'll Pass

Image result for Oscars ho hum 2020

I REGARDED OSCAR NIGHT as appointment TV viewing--now, I'm not the least interested. .

When Hollywood had actual movie stars and the show would be unpredictable, whether it was a streaker racing past David Niven or Johnny Carson delivering an ace opening monologue, I was interested and enjoyed watching. Even the entire three-plus hours. Billy Crystal was also worth the wait. Then even Billy wanted out and stopped hosting. Now they have to beg Chris Rock to make an appearance. Yeah, even with a dilapidated Steve Martin tonight, it's not on my radar.

I'll tape Joaquin Phoenix because I'm guessing he'll do something, say something stupid.

  1. Oh, they still have the Oscars?

  2. Anything local going on? How was the Chinese New Year's Parade coverage (I didn't watch or record)? How was the Warriors vs. Lakers coverage? Allison Rodriguez (KTVU), imo, is doing a great job as anchor and then the next day reporting on-scene somewhere. Weather is getting boring even with wonderful weekend weather reporters. It's Sunday. I imagine Julie Haener will be back on tonight's 10 pm news, unless she gets the night off for working the parade yesterday.

  3. Agree, Oscars are now meaningless. I watched Parasite today, and it wasn't as good as 1917 or Once in Hollywood.

    1. @8:57 That's because you have a low IQ to understand Parasite.

    2. But, Parasite was the PC choice for Hollywood, since that's all that matters to them.

    3. Since they forgot to nominate any actors of color and shut women out they figure they could kill two birds with one stone by giving to a foreign film

  7. I watched Parasite right before the Oscars, and it reminded me of Don the Con moving into the White House with his whole family.

  8. Joaquin Phoenix is a terrific actor. He didn't win this Oscar because of his advocacy for humane treatment of animals. He's not evil for understanding that animal torture and dominance is not his cup of tea. Ignore him and mock him, he expected it. However, that big plate of processed bacon or pastrami will get the last laugh. It coats your arteries with yellow guck which cause, certifiably, heart attacks and strokes and cancers of the prostate, breast and bowel. Enjoy!!!

  9. Miss the old time Hollywood STARS, remember one year Paul Newman and Liz Taylor presented an award. Wow what star power and glamour.

    1. The women back then were spreading their legs for roles behind the scenes just like the Weinstein generation of today.

    2. What or what not went on behind the scenes was not my point. All l said l missed the old time star that had glamour and star power. Liz Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, Kate Hepburn. Ingrid Bergman, Lauren Bacall, and the men to name a few of my favorites: Paul Newman,George Peppard, Cary Grant, Gregory Peck and Montgomery Clift.

  10. In the minority on this blog, but I thought the Oscars were great. 2019 was a very good year for movies. 'Parasite' was an excellent movie as were all the best picture nominees. Acceptance speeches were great...prepared and thought out, and without note cards. As a movie fan, I've watched the Oscars for over 50 years, and still enjoy the show.
