  1. Have you ever heard a more bizarre transition with john rothman where after 20 minutes of arguing with trump callers to the point of being in tears suddenly goes right into what his wife makes him buy at cal mart..think rothman would his program from the deli if they let him

    1. Hey, I actually think the Calmart ads are funny. It's a nice break too from the wacko Trump loyalist. Plus, I like green beans and brussel sprouts.

    1. I'd say a definite YES. Been the talk and chatter of the week and the NFL could use a little of the NBA base.

  4. Hi Rich,

On KCBS I hear old KGO Ed Baxter doing a Bloomberg segment. Do you happen to know what else Baxter is up too these days? Is he still local?

In the 1960's Jim Dunbar hosted AM San Francisco on KGO TV 7. I believe he use to do a live question on the street segment. They filmed at Market and Powell streets one time and I was in the background of the filming. Do you happen to know where any of that film would be? I kind of wanted to see how crazy I looked then. Rich if you don't know maybe one of your readers knows.

    Thanks for your great blog!

  5. Have the Tom Steyer radio ads reached the same level of irritation in your mind as those of Shreve Jewelry and the Handlery?

    1. No, jewelry ads are just plain annoying and pathetic. At least Steyer has a purpose. If not a chance to win.

    2. Yes, they have.

    3. It seems like Shane Co ads have been running "forever". Now, his son does them.

I do miss the old "Gensler Lee Diamonds" ads, though.

    4. How is it possible that decades after last hearing it I still remember...

      "Gensler-Lee Diamonds, Gensler-Lee Diamonds,
The place to buy diamonds, if you're really smart
      Is Gensler-Lee Diamonds,
      The stooooore with a heart!"

Well, that's what jingles are for. You get a lot to like with a Marlboro, filter, flavor, pack or box. Open wide for Chunky.

    5. Steyer, has a chance to win according to you?? Stop smoking Weed, he's got no chance.

  6. One certainly needs to add the Kars for Kids ads the list! The Handlery ads are so amateurish, aren't they?

  7. Why is everyone getting so upset over ads. I it is a fact of commercial radio, most of the time I tune them out, and if they keep running they must be working. As a former business owner I know how important advertising is, so chill and give these guys a break.

    1. Advertising may be important, but it is also beyond reckless. A listener can only withstand so much repetition. Plus, a show is supposed to be about the show, not the commercials, no matter how many bills are supposed to be paid. Can't respect an industry where discipline and discretion are anathema, and the followers often either have no life and enjoy too much provocation. Advertising has its purpose; it also has a big flaw: no respect for the listener's intellect.

There is a front page story on SFGATE.COM
"Star-studded Super Bowl parties take over Miami"
And on the front page of sfgate are two white liberal women.
Why does sfgate celebrate the lives and stories of wealthy white people ?
Does the Chronicle and SFGATe cater only to white liberals ?
