HE'S LAYING LOW BECAUSE HE HAS TO
*Before we get to the nitty gritty, a quick story: he (Larry Baer) not only has been down and out near the office (GiantsVille) but downtown near media gulch too (Broadway and Battery) --there's a lot of to chew on and it not only involves Larry (public) but way more palpable, (private Larry too)
You don't hear much from the wife (Pam Baer) because she's more focused short term: there's a good chance she'll divorce and it's not just about the domestic dust-up last March. She's (and he too) has been aiming for a split for some time now and stands to get a fortune --the house in Presidio Heights and a good chunk of Larry's Giants' fortunes and then some. It's a lot of moolah and she doesn't want to fuck it up. Smart woman. Larry knows that and is concentrating on a way in which he can't give any more dough allowable under Calif's divorce set-up, pretty much 50-50 but there's several variables --Baer has hired a high top lawyer to figure it out and that's a good reason he's been away from the Giants' mess (hey Larry, you didn't miss much.)
*In the old days, Baer would have lunch with the boys at Tadich Grill --he wasn't a Willie Brown guy but he talked so much biz with Willie he might as well have bought a place in the Millennium Tower.
Baer had enough time in his early life with the CBS chief, Larry Tisch, that Brown could have been Buster Brown. Larry Liked to schmooze with Ed Lee and talk politics and the Giants' role in the city. He wasn't a drinker, nor was Lee, but they made lots of doo with seltzer and wine. Baer couldn't envision a day where the Giants position was this low in both the practical and business world; he surely would be angry and disillusioned if he thought the cash cow on the waterfront would be stoked for vacancy. Larry has a lot on his mind.

ReplyDeleteTim's story is a cautionary tale of why it's inadvisable to use that shit. A brilliant athlete, who made baked out decisions that fried his brain and body. Of course, he had to be stoned to listen to his megalomaniacal daddy. Father didn't know best in this case, in regard to compliance with actual pitching and Sports Medicine experts, and that cost his mislead son many more years as an ace-level performer.

ReplyDeleteThis was certainly a juicy piece, looks like Larry might have had affair and now he is in a whole bunch of shmeckle trouble. Don't think he will need a parade to make up for the spousal support.

ReplyDeleteHe has nobody to blame but himself. Why in the world would Larry put anything on his phone that would have to do with his lover? From the TMZ video that we ALL saw, I would have bet a years salary that Pam suspected something was up. No pun intended.
ReplyDeleteNo more Lockstep By The Bay. Farhan Zaidi, while the MLB club still has lean years ahead, has done the unthinkable - improve the Giants' Farm System. Whoda thought Sacramento would have won the AAA National Championship over Cleveland's Columbus squad that ended Tampa Bay's Durham Bulls Dynasty? Zaidi still has to rebuild AA Richmond VA and Single A San Jose, but if Sacramento keeps winning, San Francisco will see a strong ballclub again early this coming decade.

He may have given Brian Sabean and Bruce Bochy the freedom to power the G-Men to their first 3 City-based World Series crowns, but now, all he has wanted to do was keep long-in-the-tooth broadcasters employed and an inane dugout reporter extended air(head) time. Sabes & Boch knew when to move on. Unfortunately, not Baer, and his new lawyers may prove it.
This will, most likely, run Madison Bumgarner out of town!!!
ReplyDeletePedro Martinez was listed as being the same size as Tim, and he pitched in the bigs for 18 years. Jamie Moyer was listed at the same weight, and an inch taller, and he pitched for 25 years at that level. Chris Lincecum had iconoclastic "ideas" about pitching mechanics, training, maintenance (i.e. throwing frequency, warming-up, cooling-down, etc.), many of which were just plain wrong. Many experts, inside and outside of the Giants' organization, tried to warn the stubborn Lincecums'. The sad consequence was the much too premature brake down of an athlete who was remarkably flexible and physically gifted (like Martinez). It's nice that Tim respected his father, but the dad was a classic pushy "Little League Father" with a big ego and thirst for attention, and a much smaller list of qualifications in regard to professional level pitching and sports medicine.
ReplyDeleteWith regard to the weed: it has been reported that Tim was a pretty heavy user. I could cut him a little slack if there was a pain management factor in his usage. Otherwise, it's an unhealthy habit that can negatively effect physical performance and judgement.
Baer is the the stone that caused the ripple effect of the SOMA and Mission Bay development.Hundreds of meetings with neighborhood groups getting that ballpark built when almost everyone said it couldn't be done. That part of town was full of abandoned warehouses, a KOA "campground" and underperforming commercial properties. Chase Center wouldn't exist without that ballpark either.

A's management has had to deal with some pretty antagonistic characters from the Port and Laney College. A difficult situation, that would have presented a similarly frustrating challenge for Baer (if he were in a Managing Partner position with the A's).
