Pondering Game: Where Radnich Could End Up? Tuesday Open

POSSIBLE LANDING SPOTS FOR RADNlICH (From most possible to least possible)

1. KGO-TV: Disney has the biggest pockets to pay Radnich the money it would take to pull off this venture (about $300-400K a year) and Circle7 at 900 Front would immediately possess instant buzz and ratings, but can they pull it off? Especially considering they're about to invest a major financial chit to veteran Dan Ashley. YES and Yes. Remember, money is not the biggest obstacle but yes, it has to be at least legit for both parties. Radnich has ZERO leverage here but in order for Disney (which owns KGO and other ABC O and O's) to be considered serious --and I would think they are) then a serious offer has to be in their MO.

2. NBC Bay Area (KNTV) the Southbay NBC O and O in San Jose has never really had a bigtime sports anchor --unless you go way back in the early 2010's when a guy names Raj Mathai did sports and then converted to news. They certainly have the money and they might jump on this chance but KGO has the geographical edge --a 50-50 proposition. That's not bad odds for them and for Raddy.

3. KPIX --CBS O and O seems set with Dennis O'Donnell and I'm not sure Radnich would be a fit, realistically. Plus, PIX has enough problems dealing with low morale and impending changes at the top. Not a good fit.

4. KTVU: Fox is shedding payroll and already has targeted KTVU for its cutting action both now and in the future. Moreover, Mark Ibanez is retiring (my take) after his contract runs out in 2021 and nobody will make $300K anymore, even Radnich to wet Fox's appetite. Not likely.

5. KRON: are you kidding me?

6. KQED: they could add a weekly talk show, say on Friday night but KQED doesn't make bold moves anymore, instead concentrating on quiche recipes and coffee mug inventory.

RADIO:

No ranking here. 95.7 FM has the money but they too have a lean corporate owner in Entercom plus seem content to play footsie with a underdeveloped and sloppy player like "The Game" is, what a waste of time and energy.

KGO and KCBS? Nope and Nope.

  1. If KGO radio were still at Disney this would be a really easy sell...do the radio / TV combo like Pete Wilson post KRON

    Ironic he could be pulling into the same parking space, sitting on a different set

    I'd love the banter with Dan, and ribbing of his music prowess - dropping hints of free stuff from Michael Finney - plenty of material to work with

    1. He was obviously bored with sports at the end of his run, maybe a news-talk gig would suit him. He'd be more interesting than Chip, Pat, Mark or the Branson boys. My guess is that his politics runs to the right, so maybe KSF0 would be the place for him.

  2. You forgot a few landing spots:
    * Civic Center plaza with the other wayward souls
    * on a boat off the Pacific Ocean
    * the Emeryville Chevron gas station
    * Walnut Creek's Broadway Plaza
    * Alcatraz Island
    * Gilligan's Island
    * anywhere but on the local airwaves

  3. Sportscasters are all has beens or wanna bees with arrogant jock personalities. Radnich is just a bloated douche.

  4. Don't know where Radnich will land but sure know where he lives: In Rich Lieberman's head! MY GOD, Lieberman is obsessed. ENOUGH with your Gary Radnich fixation.

  6. I'd like to hear Gary on 95.7 in the 10 to 2pm spot. Pair him with Bonta Hill and bring back the Bruno segment. Bonus: the "handoff" between Gary and D. Bruce would be awkwardly fascinating.

    1. Actually, that would be interesting, even though Bonta, Steinmetz, and Guru have a good thing going right now. I don't know where Gary would fit on 95.7. Pair him with Ratto, but I think even Ratto would get on Gary's nerves. LOL.

      It would be intersting to hear a Gary-Damon Bruce handoff, but I don't think 95.7 does that anymore.... I know Damon hated Gary after what happened in 2011, but now that Damon has settled down, gotten married, and has a kid, I wonder if an interaction between him and Gary would be different now than it would've been back then.

    2. The combination of Gary and D. Bruce was a disaster for the short time it was tried on KNBR. Damon would probably jump off a bridge if he were paired with Gary again.

  7. Is CSN Bay Area an option? Seems like they could find something for Gary to do.

  8. The only place Gary Radnich should be reporting to is the unemployment office: willing to work, sure; ain't nobody gonna hire him and nor should they: he's loud, obnoxious, misogynist, boorish, poorly studied, and (so far as TV is concerned) he has a face for radio. Did I mention as well that he's old -- both in years, and in terms of being old news and old school and behind the times.

    You had your moments in the sun raddy. Retire gracefully for crying out loud. If you won't do that, then you need to hear this: Sit Down and Shut Up.

    Thanks Rich for the opportunity to vent that. I feel better now.

  9. You might want to do an investigation into why weather reports on KGO, especially when done by Nicco or Tuna, sound like a kindergarten teacher talking to four-year-olds. Seriously, listen to some of their stuff online. Tracey must think her audience consists of lobotomy patients.

  10. After listening to Greg "Arrogant" Papa and John "Kiss "Ass" Lund, I'm ready for the return of Raddy!!! Please keep us posted Rich. This is a matter of life and death for us sports nuts!!!

  11. Radnich had a saying" when you're done you're done". Why would he return...he has nothing to prove...he's been to the top of the mountain. You come back and you become Ronn Owens Part II, which is sad.

  12. Could the brash Mr Radnich find a home on any cable outlet? Since he doesn't go to actual games maybe he could land a spot as a "Sports Hater" on Fox or somewhere. Kind of a token sports presence on a national basis? (Just thinking of some way to keep him off the local channels.)

  13. Has Gary Radnich considered Sports 1140 KHTK ?
    He already knows several of the on-air hosts.
    He's friends with The Rise Guys, Carmichael Dave, Grant Napier ?
    It seems like this would be a solid fit.

  14. I think its highly unlikely that Radnich will resurface on any Bay Area media outlet. He's done.

  15. At the end of the day, nobody cares where he and his Bentley end up. Face it, he's a has been and all washed up. Enjoy your retirement.

    1. You show the stupid one. There's only 1 race, the human race.

      Did you mean to say nationalists?

  17. Even though I don't think he will end up on any of these outlets, if I had to pick one, it of course has to be 95.7. A lot of ex-KNBR guys that he worked with on KNBR one way or another, are on 95.7 and Gary would go back to doing what he really liked doing which was being on the radio.

    I just don't know what timeslot he would fit in at though..... He probably wouldn't want to be on with Joe, Lo, and Dibs in the mornings so that's probably out, even though I think a back and forth between Gary and Lorenzo Neal would be interesting and kind of entertaining, especially how both of them can go off topic at times. Lorenzo Neal can reminisce about his days growing up in the Fresno area in Lemore, CA, while Gary can reminisce about his days growing up in San Jose. LOL.

    His best spot probably could be 10-2 even though I feel Bonta, Guru, and Steinmetz have a good thing. Maybe replace Steinmetz with Gary? Gary could probably play better off of Bonta and Guru than Steinmetz can. I think Gary would like Bonta's and Guru's passion for sports, even though he might make fun of them.

    The drivetime timeslot would be intriguing. Of course, we know of Gary and Damon's feud from back in 2011, but Damon's kind of a changed man now that he's married and has a kid. I'm sure he still doesn't like Gary very much, but if was open to having Ratto on his show, might as well have Gary on his show too. LOL. Not sure if you would replace Matt Kolsky with Gary, or just have a 4-man drive time afternoon show with Gary, Damon, Ratto, and Kolsky. LOL. That would be a crazy show to say the least and could either be a ratings nightmare or the most listened to sports radio talk show in the Bay Area. haha.

    Not sure if Gary would want to be on at night with Butcher Boy and Ryan Covay. They're too diehard into sports and Gary would kind of slow that show down.

    But yes, I don't see Gary coming back, but it he did, 95.7 probably might be the best fit out of all of the possibilities Rich presented.

    1. Gary has not followed sports since the Colonial period, he is irrevelant and probably wants more coin then 95.7 would offer him and he has no leverage, hope he stays off their air. I am not a big fan of the third guy on the afternoon drive. I like Ray and Damon but what could Gary offer, other than he a blowhole of empty words
