Tuesday Torts and Other 415 Media Nuggets

IF Mark Thompson's horrifically BORING KGO show weren't heading for the radio cemetery, here's further proof:

*Thompson's growing reliance on old and annoying, Bret Burkhart --an alleged newsman who says nothing, doesn't help Thompson (who needs a lot of help) and is plain useless in his sidekick job which adds ZERO to the already insufferable show and only further fucks up Thompson's 2-hour colonoscopy in the morning from 10-Noon. But thanks for trying, KGO, drive home safely.

*The last time Burkhart was relevant, "Hootie and the Blowfish" had a #1 record.

*Burkhart thinks he's a Rembrandt while in reality he's one of those paintings of the dogs playing poker. If Woolworth on Market were still around, Burkhart could have a site to show off his masterpieces.

*My Thompson rip that he worked on Yom Kippur is sort of a "Jew-thing"; yes, some Goyim were offended, a few Jews too but for the Jews, you know I'm right that you don't work on Kol Nidre and Yom Kippur day, you just don't and I'll leave it at that.

*Thompson day of Atonement: his show.

*A 4.5 little shaker and the whole world is shocked here. I thought you all were grisly veterans and wouldn't get worked up by such little earth shake quivers. If it were in the high 5--near 6 range, OK, I get it, but a 4.5? God, my bathroom makes more noise than that trivial shit.

*Now I commend KCBS and John Evans for excellent coverage and interviews including the USGS woman from Golden, Colorado who incredibly used "so..." every time she began her answer to Evans' question, about six-7 times, a new world record.

*A slight blemish: reporter, Doug Sovern, calling first from his Montclair bungalow telling listeners "we're getting lots of calls from the newsroom." --Sovern has a a lot of phones and plenty of reach but not that far.

*Most popular show on KGO and the show that brings in the most revenue: Pat Thurston hands down not even close.

ADD MISS Patricia: She has multiple offers from the Training Academy people to be their semi-pitch lady and chooses to voice their ads, big deal. Thurston has just as much right to bring home extra bacon as the others do. Back off.

*Armstrong and Petty: their DUMN Tuesday morning assault on the senses was more GROSS even by their simpleton, BS standards. They're Trump brown-toilet-paper act is more gruesome by the day. Maybe its time they both bought Trump blow-up dolls and really enjoyed themselves.

*KQED's Michael Krasny also did NOT work on Yom Kippur. John Rothmann too.

*Question: How did Ronn Owens break the fast? Went to Union Street and got a mani/pedi.

*Inmates at John George mental hospital in San Leandro are being subdued by being locked inside a module unit and forced to listen to the "Ronn Owens Report."

*Brian Copeland is sitting by the phone waiting to hear from Angela Alioto who herself is waiting by the phone from Cumulus to hear, "OK, we'll settle for this." It won't happen for a long time if it ever does.

  1. At 11pm last night, One station (I think KGO7) flashed a still shot from the Bay Bridge collapse from the Loma Prieta quake. It even had a huge "LIVE" on the chyron. Anyone else see that goof? Amazing it wasn't KTVU this time...

  2. So most field reports on the 4.5 came through social media and surprisingly enough, I didn't see any station extend their 11 PM newscasts.

    1. KRON did. Well, their last newscast is from 10pm to 11pm, but on Monday night, they stayed on the air until 11:30pm.

Its one thing for a station (Cumulus) to accept advertising and quite another for the personality to do the advertising and even do weekend infomercials.
Lending one's name is essentially a endorsement.
"Learn to trade like the pros" Come to the free class.
I'd suggest two things. Read all the Yelp reviews...especially the 35 at the bottom that weren't accepted. PLUS read the star rating of the 25 that were removed for "violation"
Then read the accepted reviews many of which were very positive.
But note...look at the first 7 and one thing is apparent.
6 of the 7 each have exactly 6 past reviews...all posted on the same day their Trading Academy review was posted. The one review of those first 7 with a lots of prior reviews was the one that was questioning, saying "proceed with caution"
Then go read all those non-published reviews seen in a link at the bottom.
Listeners need to go into these sales presentations with their eyes wide open. Or do we not want the consumers to be fully aware of what they attending?
How many people enter into this knowing they may be asked to spend $25,000 down the line?
From the Irvine franchise site Yelp page

Instead of relying only on the in-house 94% positive review claim.. as heard in the ad copy... Look at other review sites.
See a mixture of ONE STAR and FIVE STAR reviews.

Get a idea of what you may be entering into.
Many people go ahead and seem to think the classes are great.
Their long term trading success is a unknown.
Fine...just go in prepared so you aren't caught up in a sales presentation and make a purchase decision based on ideas that you haven't thought completely through.
We all hear about "time share" sales. This is about investing.
All I am saying is "invest more time" in learning about what you are being offered.

If Pat Thurston wants to endorse this company, that is OK.
I just think listeners need to understand the full picture instead of the simple "success" ideas we see offered in the advertising and on the weekend infomercials seen on 860 AM.

After all, were not talking about Balance of Nature Fruits and Veggie pills where the listener is only out $60 or $70 a month if they get less than satisfactory results. They can stop ordering at any time.
A far cry from the $7,000 to $25,000...to $50,000 that can be spent on these investment courses.

Who can argue with the value of consumers being fully informed?
Once fully informed they can do whatever you think is best.

    1. Thanks for your response. OTA is being sued by FTC for fraudulent claims.

    2. Balance of Nature ads, sometimes voiced by P.Thurston are NOT approved by FDC. Rating of "F" by the BBB. Kgo doesn't seem to have ethics with many of their ad choices. Online Trading Academy, day trading, NOT good way to invest.

    3. FDA not FDC, sorry
