CROCKETT REFINERY FIRE TAKES OVER BAY AREA TV NEWS

*Fire appears to have grown more intense and seriously out of control.

*KTVU's Tom Vacar on scene and providing more than the usual "it's burning and there's extra heat."

*KGO-TV Ama Daetz says for the 165th time, "there's a shelter in place." (DUH!) Kristin Sze --"it's really incredible." (DUH!) Memo to KGO, might be worthy to HURRY UP and get Dan Ashley in the studio. Like immediately.

*NBC Bay Area: relied heavily on its weatherman to make it seem that the refinery fire is really out of control and looks spooky.

*Mind-numbing: NOT ONE anchor/reporter has said this fire spells DOOM for Bay Area car folks who will head to the pump in coming days.

5 buck gas?

*Developing....

UPDATE: 4: 34 PM PT

*Looks like things have calmed down (good) and now the beginning of amateur hour summation and again, no one hurt, killed (at this  time)

*KPIX's Ken Bastida, on scene, said last night's quake may have had a play in today's fire. I haven't heard that quip from other outlets but it wouldn't surprise me

*KTVU's Vacar has that look of god on his face which is good because we need all the help we can to put out the fire.

OH, AGAIN: Not one reporter/anchor mentioned this fire's effect on Bay Area gas prices which should be SOP, #1.

Update 2: Fire Appears To Have Flared Up

We'll monitor a little than have a complete update on Wednesday

  4. I'm watching Circle7's Lyanne Melendez reporting from the bushes near the fire, she's a real go-getter.
Gas prices will sky rocket because of this fire, someone has to pay for it I suppose. Maybe Gav will step in.

  5. First thing I did after hearing of the refinery fire was fill up the gas tank.

  6. Why would this result in $5 gas when it is a tank of jet fuel and a tank of ethanol that are on fire?

Because of no official word yet. Perhaps this refinery's product was shipped to other states and isn't used here? It happens. And you thought the KCBS reporter was a moron for asking if they knew what started a fire, when fire investigators were already on the scene??? Who's the moron now?
