Tom Tolbert (l) and Steve Kerr |
QUICK SUMMATION:
Tolbert screws Barnett who's been royally screwed from day one; Tom Tolbert is not a very good radio color analyst --above average; the whole plan was secured by Tolbert buddy, Warriors' coach, Steve Kerr, who worked hard behind the scenes to make sure TT got this gig; in the end, the Warriors radio broadcast, which was GREAT, solo, with master PBP guy, Tim Roye, is now more muddled with Tom Tolbert doing home games and Jim Barnett on the road; egos marginalize what was once a great broadcast but now is a hodgepodge of jockocracy at work, Howard Cosell got it right.
Watch this rendition of jockocracy.
What was wrong with Barnett? Not a damn thing. He should still be on TV. The power of politics and kissing ass. Just ask Rudy who somehow keeps his attitude and lack of talent calling TV games. How that pile of dung keeps his gig is beyond amazing.
ReplyDeleteI like Barnett, he's a nice guy, but no one ever said he was hired for life. He didn't get screwed he's being taken care of.
DeleteTolbert got hired because he's good at what he does not just because he's a former athlete.
I don't really understand the outrage about this.
That Tolbert is a bad man. Took my son to McDonald’s to eat and play. Tolbert walked by and ripped ass; made my son say “My eyes are burning!!”
ReplyDeleteDo you think you are funny? Well you are not!
DeleteAll that craft beer will get you.
DeleteGod this is pathetic.
DeleteHoward Cosell got lots of things right. He was right on several years ago when he criticized the current state of boxing at the time, and accurately predicted what it has become today.
ReplyDeleteCosell, Frank Gifford and Dandy Don Meredith, now that was great entertainment on Monday nights!
After a Raider's Monday night game I asked Cosell for his autograph. His reply: "I haven't got time for autographs, I've got a God Damn plane to catch."
DeleteTom Tolbert is smart and knowledgeable analyst. Why is it a problem that he's been added to the broadcast team?
ReplyDeleteTolbert and Roye were really good when they did this a few years ago. Barnett on radio? Will give him the benefit of the doubt at this time but remember, being good on tv while being compared to Fitz is a lot different than w Roye on radio.
ReplyDeleteI don't care about any of this. Just PLEASE get Rod Brooks off of the afternoon show. PLEASE!
ReplyDeleteThat's a pretty nice gig for Barnett, imho; gets to travel first-class free for half the season and do his own thing when they are home. Won't have to head to SF from east bay and deal with that traffic nightmare-in-the-making. Still associated with GSW so he can leverage that for public speaking and all the goodies that go along with it.
ReplyDeleteI'm more concerned with on the court happenings
ReplyDeleteWhy does Fitzgerald still have a job, world class team and a crappy ass kisser as the play x play.
ReplyDeleteTolbert is terrible. But he has made the most of his days as an NBA scrub.Turned it into radio gigs. He's got a fat head. He's not near as clever as he thinks he is. I would be happy if I never had to hear his voice on any broadcast ever again.
