POWER PLAY AT PIX?
KPIX Morning Anchors, Kenny Choi and Michelle Griego not only aren't talking to each other, seems Griego is secretly trying to ace out Choi in an apparent power play.
That ain't gonna happen as Choi recently signed a three-year extension. I'm not a fan of Choi but I'll give him credit working alongside shit-disturber supreme, Griego who continues to use brute force in the morning and maintaining her reign of terror.
Griego and a nervous CBS5 staff are hardly congenial --she's ultra diva and for what? PIX's numbers in the morning are terrible. So how does Griego get away with it?
Nobody knows for sure.
Choi shows up, reads his copy and barely even looks at her, no wonder/
Your reports have piqued my interest, regarding the tone between Choi and Griego. Though they try hard to hide it on-set, I detect some tension at times. They really do have a hard time looking at each other, and the banter often seems forced!
ReplyDeleteI didn't watch today's PIX morning news, but Emily Turner was anchoring for Griego during the noon news.
Telemudo or Univision won't welcome this shorty, look into her eyes and you can tell what type of a person she is.

ReplyDeleteI do both; there's plenty of "real news" reported such as people being fired or hired; the "drivel" you hate is precisely the kind of material people want to read and enjoy coming here; for them and others its entertaining and very much true; if you're looking for a strictly straight version of the Bay Area TV/Radio scene, then maybe you should expand your reading menu, thanks for commenting though.
DeleteThis story is trying to answer one of the great mysteries of the universe. Why does Michelle still have a job? Consistently bad ratings, toxic personality, has run off multiple co anchors. They have changed everything else and frankly she is not all that great.
DeleteWhen I worked in the biz, including at PIX, the biggest mystery to me was why some of the least talented and most toxic people advanced up the ladder smoothly and some of the hardest working, most intelligent people were kept as "day-hire" or "fill-in" status. Those fill-ins kept the arseholes looking good, yet they never got credit for it. Eventually most would tire of waiting for recognition and they went off into other fields, or went back to college to get degrees in other directions. That's something I've consistently noticed about this business. The good people are weeded out, and the toxic ones remain and entrench themselves. More than any other profession I've worked in, I've noticed in TV the biggest discrepancy between success and talent. People get in because barriers to entry are low. They don't stay, however, which explains why the product generally sucks—not just here but everywhere.
DeleteEVERYTIME I SEE HER MS G I THINK ''WHAT A SILLY GOOSE!''
ReplyDeleteFire both of them!
ReplyDeleteChoi is no boy toy. Nor is he her fan boy.
ReplyDeleteOy!
DeleteIn the real world these types of people would be thrown through the door. Management is responsible for bad actors like Mad dog Michelle.
ReplyDeleteJust to see what all the fuss was about, watched them today. It seemed like a professiobal news broadcast to me. Choi looked at Griego several times during the presentation. It appeared to me that they had a lot of territory to cover in the short, thirty-minute broadcast and they were moving along at a speedy clip to get everything in. They didn't have time for pleasantries or idle chitchat, which is fine with me. I'm not wstching for the "personality." I'm wstching to get the news the most efficient way possibly and as much as they can fit into the time they have to do it. I didn't see anything unusually unfriendly from Ms. Greigo, but I don't know what goes on behind the scenes. She seemed professional, serious, and eminently competant to do the job, as did Mr. Choi.
ReplyDeleteI don't get the hate of Kenny. I'm long removed from the Bay Area TV news scene...and have moved back to NoCal after a ten-year absence. The few times I've watched morning news (I usually listen to ESPN radio's "Golic & Wingo")...and PIX...Kenny does a pretty good job of anchoring. I mean, what the hell more does someone need other than for someone to do a good job of intro'ing, reading, and tagging news stories? He's pretty solid, I think, on all counts.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I can think of that people don't like is...because he's Chinese? I dunno, maybe people want distinguished White guys...or blonde/blue hunks? (he's a pretty decent-looking dude, IMO) Maybe Hispanics want an Hispanic male? Or Black want a Black male lead anchor? Hell...in the mornings, I'm guessing most people aren't really actually "Watching" anyways--the TV is just providing background/wake-up noise.
Kenny's not Chinese he's Korean
DeleteLocal news piggy backs onto the national feed in the mornings. In this cease, CBS this morning. It is in trouble though....changes happening soon.
DeleteHe does the job but nothing solid about him. If it weren't the lead in for CBS This Morning they would definitely eliminate the program
DeleteKenny Choi has been missing all week...where is he? Miss him!
ReplyDeleteI have been wondering that as well. Where is Kenny? I very much like him in his position, and am really ticked off if he is gone for good. The article states that he signed a 3-year contract in 5/19. Do they really want to get rid of him so much that they would pay off his contract?
ReplyDeleteNo more power play, start working together.
ReplyDeleteI quit watching the morning news because I like what Kenny Choi brought to the news. Now I wait for Good Morning America before I turn on the TV.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the witch is gone.
