No matter how trivial and ridiculous it is that we concentrate on the status of a relatively minor female TV News reader; she has sex appeal and quite an attraction; her Q rating is up there; it's dumb really given the times; she is important in that respect and my e-mail proves it. So we talk about her. You seem to care too but there's always the Internet deniers who come and blister me because I write about her. Go leave and watch KQED.

*It's not that Greg Papa is fully functional and quite dandy as a play-by-play guy and studio host; that's a given. It's that he's a major boob off screen and talks over everyone and makes them feel miniscule and belittled. One day when Papa reflects back on how he treated a female co-worker; how he ran over interns at his cable and radio show; how he screwed over people close to him, he'll understand that a "re-set" is only good if it's practiced by both parties.

Image result for Greg Papa 49ers play by play*Papa has a huge hill to climb once his 49ers' radio PBP stint begins; he'll be able to handle it; that's not the issue here. It's the large Niners' faithful that are disgusted over the dismissal of Ted Robinson and his decade-long association with the NFL team and its interests. Robinson was by no means spectacular but he had a steady presence and lead broadcaster with Tim Ryan as a partner. Their chemistry was first-rate and they developed quite a following with listeners and fans alike.

Papa broadcast Raiders' games for 20 years and is associated with the Silver and Black no matter how much spin by the 49ers broadcast people. The impetus for going after Papa was by a major, influential figure by the organization's point man on a duo. He worked with Papa when both had a stint with KNBR (the flagship of 49ers radio network) only I think this guy underestimated the allegiance to Robinson from the fanbase. They view Papa as a Neanderthal --whether that fair or not misses the point. Papa will have to win them over; if the 49ers continue to lose it'll be a difficult chore. If they win, we'll winning always helps.

*How much are the 49ers paying Papa? I've talked to many broadcast observers in the market. They say anywhere from $10K to $15K a game; that's 20 games (4 Pre-Season; 16 Regular Season) Do the math, that'll allow Papa to pay for his considerable overhead and spawning.

KNBR probably will limit his appearances on their shows but not spurn his FM hits; why should they? The more pub, the better. Then again, KNBR is run by a guy who has the genius of a wet piece of spaghetti.

*No, Tom Tolbert isn't leaving his wife and shacking up with Amy G. It was a joke and intended for the few people here who like a good laugh and not the bozos who watch American Idol.

*The fact Mark Thompson hasn't settled in the Bay Area (he had a home in Sausalito) tells you ll you need to know about how he feels less than stable in SF, or more to the point, how KGO feels about him.

*I love the new trend today of TV anchors standing (as opposed to sitting) reading stories. How radical!

  1. I think we all know you were referring to Natasha Zouves. And I freely admit that I do like her as an anchor. She looks good, and has great diction. That's about all you can ask for in an anchor. So I really appreciate all the updates on Natasha Zouves, even if others say they don't. thanks Rich!

  2. To the deniers...Your hate and jealousy cards being played at this point in the game are meaningless and have zero face value. The only complaint I have is she should be on in the evening, not 4:30 in the morning. I have my fingers crossed!

What do the women who have "all three" have in common? The closer you get the more beautiful they become!

Like I said in the beginning, she missed Hollywood by 400 miles. She is the News, always will be.

All the Sports teams have star players, our local News media has a star player, her name is Natasha!

    1. Do you have a drinking problem?

She's a dime a dozen. Sit at any street light in East San Jose and look in all the cars around you. You'll find 5.

  3. It was kinda sad hearing a pro like Ted reduced to spinning and spewing the company line when he went to work for the Niners. He should not have been surprised when the same organization eventually stabbed him in the back.

  4. Papa should've went to Loss Wages along with the Raiders.

As for standing anchors, chairs cost money!

  5. Since it is Friday coffee talk day, I have a couple of misc items.

    * ME TV is back on the air, for a couple weeks now, channel 44.3 for over-the-air digital tv viewers. I watch it for 2 episodes of Hogans Heros at 10 pm M-F.

    * Why doesn't channel 20.2 (over the air "THIS TV" and the prior source for the Bay area of Me TV) why don't they put their schedule on the channel information screen? It seems like it must cost quite a bit of money to broadcast the programming every day, so why not spend a little extra to include the schedule info? It's to make watching more convenient and get more viewers after all. Doesn't make any business sense to leave that information off. Did the management there forget to do it? Or what?

    1. Me-TV is also on 68.2 (KTLN, which Weigand has finally taken over from the religious folks). So why hasn't Comcast plugged Me-TV back in someplace? They are giving us "Heroes & Icons" on TWO different channels.

  6. if papa is working for the 49ers directly, how could knbr try to force him off the fm station? wouldnt that be the 49ers call, the guess would be papa doesnt appear on any knbr/49er programming during the week or on gameday, and 95.7 just mentions he is now the pbp for the 49ers but of course doesnt mention they don't carry the games, for now..i would think that whenever the 49ers contract is up on knbr, 95.7 will go very hard to get them, like they did with the warriors..and they have always wanted the giants too, which is why they always ignored the a's for the last few years..

  7. Richie: is the point man you're referring to in the Niners front office, Bob Sargeant?
