Can We all say the Ken Wayne KRON Experiment is a Royal Dud? I will; KTVU's Mark Ibanez Slobbers on Gary Radnich; Roberta Gonzales Fallout All Her Own Doing Not Myself; No Big Deal Too; Greg Papa Arrogance Filters to TV and Radio; Monday Mash

Ken Wayne --no spark at KRON
KRON is undergoing severe change; it's not something that will historically change the present situation which is the case and has been the case for several years now. KRON still looks, acts, and is and will always be awful. Until someone or some decent broadcast company swoops in and saves it. I won't hold my breath.

The other thing is the personnel. It still stinks. There are a few talented people still on board but the
bulk of its personnel looks like third-rate amateur posers and even with the addition of some newcomers the product is still infinitely infected with KRON germs.

Let's be the first one to say the addition of Ken Wayne hasn't accomplished anything. Wayne is boring and vanilla. He has no personality. It could work at KTVU where his understated delivery was the essence of old-school KTVU and consistent with their pre-Fox design.

It doesn't work at KRON. It never would. You can't save a rotting corpse.

KRON needed a JOLT. A shot in the arm and some human credibility. Wayne was thought to provide some of that and he's been lukewarm oatmeal with melba toast on the side. He could walk down the Embarcadero and no one would recognize him. As a KRON staffer jokingly told me recently, "Wayne is Steve Aveson with a slightly better personality."

So, KRON has a lifetime to go and that's just plain impossible with or without Ken Wayne.

Dud.

*A FEW YEARS ago at a sports banquet, Gary Radnich made a joke: "Hey, look out in the audience: 'there's Mark Ibanez with a nice suit; hey Mark!", yelled Raddy. "Is that another trade-out?"

Gary Radnich
Ibanez didn't think the joke was funny. In fact, he was royally pissed off and angry. Ibanez has a sense of humor but was outraged that Radnich would go a little too deep and personal. He was stung to the max.

Circle back in time to present day last Friday when Radnich was on his KNBR show and saying that night would be his last on the KRON and guess who called in? Ibanez himself, who proceeded to slobber for a good ten minutes and laugh and giggle at Radnich who sounded downright giddy. It was poignant, fun, a little too much gushing and a whole lot of sweet nothing from both but more so from Ibanez who frankly sounded nauseating --especially given his feelings for Radnich who on more then one occasion, Ibanez told this blogger he thought Raddy stunk. And not just that memorable banquet night.

Maybe Mark has a bad memory.

I don't.

*Roberta Gonzales posted a sort of interesting picture on Twitter and it was sent to me and so I posted it here.

Several people ripped me for being a juvenile and offering poor taste because I used it.

Wait a minute!

Roberta is the one who posted it online so obviously she had no issues with it so why all the big fuss directed at me?

Because most of you have a sense of humor and don't automatically assume the picture was nefarious and laced with sexual overtones.

In my headline, I said "Roberta was being creative." And she was and that was it.

Those of you that want to rip me maybe you should contact Roberta instead.

*Dave Feldman was absent over the weekend on his NBC Sports Bay Area Giants' gig; gees, I wonder why and he was not on vacation.

*Greg Papa has built up a GIANT wall at both his radio station and at the cable outlet over his massive ego play and arrogance that has become quite problematic.

Greg Papa
Papa thinks he's God and while his moxie has been able to provide him a 49ers' gig (which he needs to finance the impending divorce from hell to a former Raiderette) its not very comfortable to be around Papa now if you're in his footsteps.

Papa is an accomplished professional and very good at his broadcast duties but his boorishness can be an issue and when he's en fuego he can be a real big jerk.

Arrogance is one thing. Self-absorbed assholeness is another.

Papa's self-importance and personal diatribes have future negative consequences and it'll be interesting to watch all this down the road.

  1. lol @ people with huge egos and no reason for it. Papa, Ronnn...hey you clowns: 90% of people have no idea who you are, and out of the 10% who do, half of them think you suck.

  2. I'd tune in and watch Ken Wayne every night if he'd grow his killer beard back.

    1. I'll watch him without the beard! Good-looking dude!

    You nailed it Rich...

  4. Wait, you suddenly expected Ken to grow a personality? Based on what?

    1. I disagree. I think the addition of Ken Wayne, and the removal of Radnich have given KRON a new sophistication. The women always had it, but now it is evident in their broadcast in a new way. The coverage of some controversial subjects is balanced and incisive. Kerman's coverage of UC sexual harassment issues was amazing including the extensive interview with the student harassed. In my opinion, it is the best and most professional news broadcast available in the Bay Area. Excellent.

    2. A new sophistication? Are they wearing tuxes now?
"The coverage of some controversial subjects is balanced and incisive?" Some, but not all, I guess you mean.
A news story is "amazing?" Really? Amazing? Boy, you set the bar low.
Your writing is so bad, it's clear you work at KRON.
Dull, uninteresting anchors don't refloat Titanics.

    3. Actually, I used to type scientific equations for a living. But, now I'm an artist. Self-directed, visual, self-employed, don't have to answer to anyone. Eat your tiny, little black heart out.

    4. An "artist?" Who watches local TV news? You really don't have to answer to anyone...including art and good taste.

    5. Perhaps I should mention that I also worked for Ed Bailey. You may have heard of Ed Bailey .... or maybe not. You don't seem like the academic type. Or very smart, either. At any rate, I have watched San Francisco Bay Area news broadcasts on television since the 1950s and consider myself well versed in professional presentation. The KTVU live stream of the Oakland Estuary is far more interesting than their newscast. What do you do? It certainly doesn't include neat, cogent thought or clearly presented ideas. Learn how to type, not that it will help.

  5. Your Radnich/Ibanez "nice suit" tale sounds awful petty for Ibanez to hold that grudge all this time and didn't get in the way of some professional courtesy to wish a rival well on his retirement. If he didn't call you would be writing about Ibanez snubbing Radnich most likely.

  6. Greg Poophead's act is coming to roost. He's always been self-absorbed and thought he's better than he really is. He should've known better than to poop in the same bed he works in. If he kept his mouth shut, perhaps he'd still be describing Raiders games. Actually, he's perfect for the Giants job on NBC Sports Bay Area. He's as stuck up as most of their fans. He'll fit in just fine.

    1. I agree. Ken Wayne has in a way, helped give KRON more credibility.

But yes, he seems like a class guy.

  10. Those KRON germs are nasty.
For starters, it would help if they picked the full-stereo 1986 era news jingle instead of cuts of it that sound like an old NBC newscast retread with STD.
    NBC's fat ugly sister.

  11. So you all give up Stanley Roberts so KRON can pay for Ken Wayne?

    Ken who?

  12. What did you expect from Ken Wayne? The dude is not Mr. Excitement. He's a dime-a-dozen news reader who thinks he's Walter Cronkite.

  13. No offense, but is Greg Papa really that bad of a guy? He still seems to be well respected by his peers, and everyone was shocked to see the Raiders let him go..... Yeah, I'm sure he has an ego, but I beg to differ that he might be as difficult as Rich might be making him seem. I'm sorry Rich. Please post this!

  16. greg papa has always been arrogant, self centered, a blowhard, but an excellent play by play guy..the radio show is terrible, its three hours of his "sidekick" telling him how great he is.. also papa's son is extremely annoying as well as the producer

  18. I think KRON's news set -- with its' glowing textured walls and bright red "trim" around the news desk -- looks like the interior of a frozen yogurt shop. "Sophisticated" is not a word that springs to mind.

  19. I wasn't commenting on the set. I was commenting on the broadcast which is superior to anything else available in the Bay Area. I'm not familiar with the off-camera personnel, but the producer and news director, and everyone involved are to be commended for maintaining remarkable objectivity in the presentation of its stories that seems to have eluded everyone else presenting primetime news, and a commitment to ethics that other Bay Area stations wouldn't know if it slapped them in the face. To a person, I might add.

  20. Ken would probably been let go if he was still on KTVU with the current situation putting Frank and Julie on Sundays and two staffs I don't want to watch on Fridays. I expect Heather will be the next Julie but this can change at anytime.

  22. I've met Mark Ibanez in person, at the applebees in rohnert park where he was hanging out w his mom and going to the movies. He is such a genuinely nice guy I find it very hard to believe Gary could get under his skin or that they weren't friends.
