KGO-TV Picks Up New Weekend Sports Anchor Via The Fresno Greyhound Line; Chris Alvarez Headed to Circle7 900 Front

Chris Alvarez
KGO has hired a new weekend sports anchor and they apparently went the cheap route: they plucked Chris Alvarez from Fresno ABC affiliate  O and O , TV 30.

He'll be anchoring and doing a lot of MMJ (multi-media journalist) work which translates into "I will work my ass off and work cheap."

Mindi Bach will also stay on and work in a limited capacity.

(Bach will handle anchor duty and do fill-in too.)

This is further proof that the local TV News business is declining and that the lovely Fresno Greyhound Depot continues to thrive!

  3. Come on rich - some of this market's best talent came right up from small market stations...

Kate Kelly, Pete Wilson, Gary Radnich, Dan Ashley, Raj Mathai (who did Fresno), and on and on...

  4. You expect someone from a NY or LA station to come to SF to do weekend sports anchor work?

    1. Wants a Seasoned Network On-Air Professional, that wants to live in San Francisco ($$$$$), working weekends.

  5. His broadcast tape looks fine and I hope he continues to work his tail off. It is good when hard work pays off and advances one to a major market. Good for him.

  6. Chris Alvarez used to work at Comcast Sportsnet now NBC Sports Bay Area. He's qualified and will be fine

  7. Don't forget that ND Tracy worked here as an asst. ND under Kevin Keeshan, then went to the Fresno affiliate as the ND for a few years, only to return to KGO. You can make an argument either way, using her as an example, regarding the quality of Fresno talent.

  8. To Rich, KGO got so many back-up anchors for sports and weather like Rick Quan, Frances Dingglassan, Lisa Argen, some big Sports guy (forgot his name as a back-up), do they even come to work on the days they do not appear on camera? Just curious what is their job as a back-up anchor.

  9. ABC30 is by far the best station in that market, and it's also within the company. Where else do you reasonably expect they might find a weekend sports guy?

The MMJ criticism is pretty on the mark though.

  10. LOL, 10:13. The Trixie issue still needs to be resolved. Cheap labor won't solve the misery that may be going on at the top news station.
