Pam Cook Sends Out Memo to KTVU Staff on Me and I Respond

Pam Cook
PAM COOK, who knew KTVU had an official state spokesperson of what is deemed taste and what is not.

Madame Cook sent this memo out to staff  {Monday) morning.

Let's have you all see it and address things after...

Dear Colleagues,

I do not know who is feeding information to Rich Lieberman, but I do know that you are giving private, personal, and company information to someone who conducts himself in a deplorable manner.
He continually degrades women, asking his followers to rate female journalists in terms of their looks, and sexuality.
He tries to dig up dirt on all of us, and ‘reports’ his findings without concern about true facts, or care for how the information may affect someone’s personal or professional life.
It is cyber bullying.

Out of respect for our coworkers, and our profession, as journalists, we need to put an end to this.

I do not know, and cannot begin to understand, your reasons for giving information to someone who’s sole purpose is to exploit us, and undermine the professional work we do, every day.
It is important to bring up mistakes and problems in our workplace, but in a professional, productive manner.

I was raised to bring up problems.
But not to be part of the problem; be part of the solution.

Thank you,
Pam Cook

*Oh, Pam, the queen of etiquette...I Respond:

Pam, it wasn't me that screwed up placing Fake Chinese pilot's names on the air or not checking and re-checking their authenticity. YOU guys did it. You're a BIG, bad, TV station and you DEGRADED an entire Asian community, I DID NOT.

Pam, It's YOU GUYS that chose to publish one of literally THOUSANDS of pictures of Ms. Nia Wilson but you chose THAT ONE? Who is THAT AFFECTING now? Maybe the family of Ms. Wilson? Is that digging up dirt or does it just pertain to certain individuals and TV stations but the rest is fair game?

Pam, how am I "exploiting" you? You had no problem with this piece, how ironic.

By calling you guys out and attempting to place you accountable for your actions? Maybe having the audacity to respond, and to comment on some of your various cast of characters who are, in their own right, acting foolish on social media and displaying questionable judgement?  Did that cross your radar, Pam, or did you not get the memo? That's deplorable, Pam, if you ask me.

By commenting and questioning the activity of placing over 50 cameras in and around the KTVU building, was I being a "cyber bully" for being critical and questioning a practice I consider and believe to be concerns for employee privacy at KTVU?

Pam, you say you were "raised to bring up problems not 'be a part of problems--be a part of the solution'", eh?

Well, Pam, I'd suggest you, FIRST, take a look at your own house and observe your problems before you start looking at some bloggers' "problems."

And do a little practice what you preaching, Pam, because there's a whole lot more.

But thanks Pam, for the wonderful publicity and thanks for trusting me.

  1. RICH! This is hysterical! I mean, with the problems that KTVU is having, instead of fixing them, they decide to "blame Rich Lieberman"? Thanks for posting this. At least we now know that all of KTVU's problems were not their fault, but that of Rich Lieberman... ;-)

  2. "By calling you guys out and attempting to place you accountable for your actions?"

That's funny because when people call you out and hold you accountable, Rich, you censor their comments or block them on twitter. Pot, meet kettle.

    1. True. I’m surprised he allowed your comment to post. I guess it’s his PR move a la Trump allowing the first secret Cohen recording to go out.

  6. Wow! She hit you dead on. You nearly wrecked a good journalist's career with your irresponsible "reporting" on the Asian teleprompter mess. You implied that Brad Belstock was responsible (the 5pm producer.) It took Brad years to revive his career and you cost him tens of thousands of dollars in pay, nearly causing him to lose his home. You whine about not being paid to write your gossip column, even as you try to harm the careers of actual journalists who've had a career in the business that you failed at. Do the hundreds of dollars you rang up in 966 sex line calls ring a bell.

  7. Great post, Rich. This was the same woman who was apparently offended because a TV executive didn't recognize her. This woman should be happy anyone is talking about her.

  8. hmmmmm..whatever could Pam Cook be talking about re: you and misogyny. See your post which came before the cook post, where you add sexual innuendo to a simple picture of a t.v. type wearing shorts on her day off.

  9. I like your blog for the most part, mostly I read it for the stories you do on KGO radi0, and talk radio in general. I'm not into sports and I don't watch local TV, so I usually don't read and comments on those blogs. I do have an issue with some of the blog you write where I feel you get personal, (i.e. Ronn Owens) and I do know you censor some comments, because several of mine has not made it to your blog, some could be because I wrote the comment days later and it is no longer relevant. However, several comments I wrote where I defended Ronn and Brian Copeland was never published, even though I felt the defense was fairly lukewarm and fair. I also object to the stabs you take at "housewives" and somehow they always live in Concord, Walnut Creek or similar. First of all why housewifes? And why the East Bay, why not Oakland or San Francisco, is your point that housewives in the East Bay not as intelligent as housewives in Oakland or San Francisco? Why take stabs at housewives at all, I don't see what it has do with anything. Frankly housewives might be more likely to listen to talk radio, thus wanting to read your blog. While doing housework, and cooking talk radio is a great companion, if you have a portable radio you can take it from room to room, not so with TV. I want to contribute to your blog, because I do like most of your blog and like the back and forth with other commenters. I don't read a lot of your blogs about KTVU and don't watch the station, so don't know if Pam Moore how fair she is in her letter, I do think she has a point about your comments about women.

    2. I know enough about you from reading your blog that you are liberal. Did I infer anywhere that your comments about women has to do with political persuasion? As I have mentioned I have and want to continue to contribute to your blog, but as a female and part time housewife that lives in the East Bay I don't care for those stabs. And since you are sensitive to critic yourself, I would think you would understand. Since you rely on volunteer donation for your livelihood, or at least partly, it might be good idea to not try to offend certain segments of the population that might otherwise be likely to send you money. By the way I do agree with your comments about Michelle Obama.

    1. Well said, I wrote the blog at 1:15. I think if Rich rely on donation to keep the sight going, being as professional would be to his advantage.

    1. Agreed. I don't know about the other guy but I feel that when women use their looks or bodies or "enhancements" for the main purpose of fame and to draw eyeballs to them they should be flattered that I took the time to comment that she had a nice set of cans. She's flaunting them for attention, I'm giving her the attention. Didn't one local radio host held in such esteem put her bra size on her resume once? Who was that again?

  12. - Pam Cook: Here are two problems for you to "solve". FOX HQ - Do you really think the network believes in free speech? They (and Sinclair Corporation, who co-owns Redding's Circle7; please oh please let that station continue to cover the Carr Fire and not force them to air Supremacist commentary defending their Commander) have gone the other way the past two years. And what about GM Gregg Kelly? How many of the KTVU colleagues you respect the most are suddenly more miserable feeling watched toward their every innocent move between hard working newscasts? The people at the station, already focused on their jobs at hand, have every right to breathe and basically interact in a normal social way; shouldn't they be respected as people? It sure sounds like Kelly doesn't believe in that whatsoever.
    - So Rich is flirtatious on his blog! I have heard much worse. Not all of his criticism has been constructive, but provocation and aggravation, which there already is too much of at the very top? Very little, if any. His reporter preferences and disdains have been made very clear. He knows how to articulate and doesn't try to harass. Don't know what HBO great John Oliver would think of the Rich Lieberman 415 Media Blog after his latest broadcast Sunday night, including a pretty good interview with Anita Hill. But I would think Oliver has read media pages far more creepy than this.
    - I still believe that Rich is the only one willing to stand up to the Bay Area media stations, be it TV, Radio, or even the occasional podcast here and there. We still need more people like him to expose the biggest warts that exist in every station. A media outlet's platform should match that of its community. It used to be very much that way between KTVU and Alameda & Contra Costa Counties. But since FOX bought the station from Cox Communications, the Firm's edict is to only give a care about HQ's views, not that of each affiliate's needs. Not exactly a community-friendly relationship anymore. Rich, Keep Giving All Stations Their Deserving Hell! And maybe karma will finally bite those that need it most!

  14. She is over reacting and to any reporter is just over reacting and do look at themselves are too high professional. In any work place, during, after or at any time, gossip gossip gossip, jealousy, hate, bashing and etc will happen. Whoever leak out information, if they don't do it during work, they will do it after work. She should send her request to HR department, but one reporter in the 90s did so when a publishing place talk dirty against this one reporter, KTVU did not back up this reporter and later on, that reporter left. My suggestion is do the right work each day reporting news to the audience and don't be too sensitive on social media GOSSIP GOSSIP GOSSIP.

    ReplyDelete
  15. She doesn't realize it, but by writing a memo like this, MORE people will leak stuff to you. And MORE people will read your blog. Nobody is going to follow her advice. Yes, they may praise her while the boss is listening. But what they do privately is a different thing. You couldn't have bought better publicity.

Well, you didn't spot that one. I know Pam; she's as far from such a person as you can imagine. She is professional and educated, however, and uses napkins when she eats, which is probably why Rich can't stand her; ditto Brian Hackney. Rich Lieberman is why aliens won't talk to us.

  18. Hey Rich,
Keep at it. This was nothing more than a reporter who is aging out, sucking up to management. Her best days are behind her. Every once in a while you go off on the looks of the female talent, but so what, we all do. It surprises me that someone who reads from a prompter can take themself so seriously. As you said, you didn’t write Ho Re Fuk. They did and they need to be called out on it.
Keep at it. They’ll be gone soon and you’ll still be here.

    1. She cooked her own goose. There's an old saying, "If you keep your mouth shut no one will ever know." Everyone now knows, she shot herself in the foot.

Once again...There is a very fine line between exercising your personal and political beliefs and shooting yourself in the foot. Ask Kathy Griffin, her wound will never heal! Ask Roseanne, one of the most recent "foot shooters."

It's a visual business. Looks matter. As guys, if we comment on the female anchors, we're pigs. But women, if they comment on male anchors, it's viewed as funny or cute. Hypocrites.

  22. GO LOOK AT ALL THE COMMENTS ON THE ROSEMARY OROZCO FACEBOOK PAGE DUE TO THE PHOTO. Um, before Pam Cook complains about female journalists, sexuality, etc. just go look at the bait on Rosemary's official KTVU Facebook page. Talk about pot meeting kettle....the name of the game is generating eyeballs/impressions on your content. KTVU knows this. So, the social media posts like this push the boundary. On purpose.
