415 Media Exclu: Anchor Shuffle At KGO-TV; Zse Takes Over For Cheryl Jennings At 5 PM; Thomas To Solo-Anchor Weekend Nights; Zouves And Aqui New Morning News Anchors

 Kristin Zse will take over

departing Cheryl Jennings's 5 PM co-anchor spot and Eric Thomas will be anchoring weekend nights at KGO-TV, (ABC7), according to a knowledgeable broadcast source.

Both Thomas and Zse, as reported by 415 Media, are leaving KGO's Morning News. And, according to the source, both are "very happy" at the change. They should be: Thomas wasn't thrilled working with the temperamental Zse and Zse had some issues with the veteran, Thomas. Thomas will also do weeknight fill-in for Dan Ashley and Larry Beil.

Meanwhile, I've learned through the source the new morning anchors will be Natasha Zouves and Reggie Aqui, the "new kids" on the block.

KGO's anchor shuffling comes at a time when the ABC local "O and O" has strong ratings both late night and early evening. I haven't been thrilled with Zouves' perpetual "happy face" and quirky voice but moving her to mornings makes better sense where her style and demeanor might be a better fit.

  1. Man. If this is true, and most of your stuff Rich, is true, then I am somewhat disappointed in losing both Thomas and Sze from mornings on 7. Yes, I have read about their alleged discomfort with one another, but ya' know, from m y perspective as a viewer, I see nothing but good chemistry and from all the morning news shows, theirs is the best to watch, for me. I still say that when one thinks about it, the two of them do not seem to be a logical fit. I mean, here you have an aging black man with graying hair, a little over weight, with one eye, and then, you have a "MILF", still a somewhat Hot Asian Girl [HAG], both of whom do a good job reading the news. They do not seem like they would make a good onscreen couple of anchors and yet, to me, together they are pretty good. I like them and I hate to see them go away to oblivion, which is what the evening news is to me.

  2. Where does all this leave Katie Marzullo?

I had to stop watching Ch 7 news in the evening...I'm glad to see Natasha go someplace I'll never have to see/hear her.

  3. Meanwhile over at KRON4, the Wonder Bra Bitch is wondering if more will start watching the perky Latina... Arriba!

  4. Wow. Ch. 7 is taking a big chance replacing two veteran, well-known anchors with nobodies, one who is a child no less. But great news for Dan Ashley and Larry Biel. Now they won't have to anchor with someone who is young enough to be their daughter, or even granddaughter.

  5. Maybe it's from reading this blog, but when Thomas or Sze have a replacement anchor for each other, they seem much happier. I like Thomas. He delivers the news well, interacts well with the other broadcasters and can seem to wing it really well when things go wrong. Somewhat like his KPIX counterpart, Frank Mallicoat. Sze, on the other hand, seems very contrived, is not great at impromptu and seems to get flustered at little hiccups.

    1. I worked with Thomas and he rocked. Steady, calm, smart, reliable. He should be rated more highly than he is. Sze I've mostly talked to in passing; she's just average, an ethnic face in a market that can't get enough of them, especially if you're young, female and either Asian or especially Latina. But she's nothing special. I've heard Rich say she's rumored to be a snoot. I've never observed it, but I don't know her that well.

  7. I'm just so confused. I thought , as so many of you condemned Cheryl Jennings for being too experienced and mature, that somehow she had to leave because all of her maturity was dragging the ratings downward. Hmmmm..so KGO ABC7 has great ratings at 5pm with Cheryl Jennings..Riddle me that...

    1. Having worked in the business many years I can assure you the suits make decisions based on what they like and want, then pawn their rationale off on "the market." Look at all the talky shit they're doing on Fox. As Rich points out, their ratings are going DOWN, yet they keep doing more of it. And the more it becomes obvious they're destroying the station, the faster they'll destroy it.

These are very smart people, after all, who went to Stanford and and drive BMWs, remember. How dare you question them, peon! You're not paid to think.

    2. Christine, just keep your mouth shut & quit subjecting us to your diahrretic spouts of brilliance. And by the way, you're no Riddler...more like Shelley Winters as Ma Barker. Bok!!

    3. I knew the real Adam West. You're no Adam West. Adam West was smart enough to know, unlike thee, that if something was going to subject him to discomfort, he wouldn't do it. My posts have my name. Learn to avoid them, then your little tummy won't get so upset. simple

    4. Christine, were you wearing a Cat Women

    5. I think we should start a drinking game dedicated to Christine. Every time she name drops on this blog, you have to drink.

    6. Honestly, Christine makes a lot of sense to me on this. Hate, really to say it, but sad that white experienced individuals are gettting so little support in your industry these days. Seems like everbody is celebrating diversity and youth to the exclusion of older and white which is just another form of discrimination, in my opinion.

    7. @1:33 Have you ever worked in a Bay Area TV newsroom? I've worked in several, and most of the people there are white -- on and off camera. What the heck are you talking about?

  9. Big difference between "kicked off the morning show" and promoted to lead female anchor, Rich.

  10. Cheryl Jennings is an accomplished journalist and reporter. Unfortunately the surgery on her face, which was a personal choice on her part, made everyone at my house turn the channel. I don't understand why anyone would willingly do that to their face.

Surgeries, Botox, whatever else. We do the same in our house because it makes us squeamish. Makes the dog howl, too.

  11. Ms. K Sze going to 5:00 news . There is no accident. I am sure she "influenced" someone to get that job.

She has to keep up with her former prodigy- Ms. Janelle Wang of Chanel 11 news. In terms of gamesmanship, she is still miles behind Ms C. Vega of ABC News.

Ms. Sze is a competent reader. Is she going to add anything to the news? F--k No. .. Show some tits.? I do not think so. Guys! Keep your pants on.

To Anonymous 6:27 AM, I surmised that you think Ms Sze is a hot piece of ass. I once saw her strolling the streets of the East Bay w/o makeup. It is quite scary

More power to Mr Lieberman and his readers for influencing Channel 7 news to change their position of the news team. Rich!!! You are the lord of the news media. I bow to your greatness.
