KGO Radio's Schaub on the move to KCBS; RL 415 Media Exclusive; Cumulus axes Iconic Ross Mitchell

SCHAUB to KCBS

Jeffrey Schaub, a longtime Bay Area TV/Radio reporter and anchor, (KPIX for 20 years) will be leaving KGO Radio, where he's been reporting and anchoring the Saturday AM news, to head to KCBS, according to a reliable broadcast source.

The respected Schaub is to begin his KCBS duties as a reporter/anchor in about two weeks, where presumably the atmosphere will be a tad more enlightening.

Schaub, ironically, will be joining one-time colleague, Anna Duckworth--both took buyouts from KPIX after ventures at the CBS O and O in March, 2010.

**Ross Mitchell,  the iconic announcer, (with booming pipes), for slightly bizarro, but much-listened to, Coast to Coast radio with Art Bell and George Noory was cut because Cumulus felt that he shouldn’t continue to act as an announcer since the station he was affiliated with, KKOH (780) Reno  dropped Coast to Coast.  Another bright move by Cumulus, the Grimm Reaper of the airwaves.

CTC is heard locally on KSFO.

  1. Mitchell is now on Red Eye Radio if I'm not mistaken.

  2. If there's one thing a sports talk show doesn't want to sound like?..its that the hosts are killing time.
And Raddy and Krueger have that sound.

  3. Jeffrey Schaub is a pro's pro....a solid journalist and someone who has great respect from his peers. Everyone wishes him well.
KGO has been lucky to have him.

  4. The retired Bob Melrose, certainly one of the best radio street reporters ever left big shoes to fill and KCBS News Director Ed Cavagnaro knows how to pull a rabbit out of the hat. Schaub is a natural, his experience at PIX gives him the knowledge to hit the ground running and will be a huge asset to KCBS. It is no wonder they are #1 or tied in the market as the most listened to radio station in the Bay Area.

  5. Why does Cumulus have anything to do with this? C2C is owned by Premiere Radio-Clear Channel. As such, Mitchell would've been employed by P/CC, not Cumulus. Your explanation makes no sense and furthermore, P/CC has hired two announcers to take Mitchell's place - that doesn't exactly sound like a cost-cutting move. It may be that the announcing workload for C2C was increasing and Mitchell couldn't fit it all in and do his day job at KOH in Reno.

  6. 1:57PM. You are a piece of work. That's what happened, Dickeys would not allow a Cumulus employee to voice a Clear Channel/Premiere program. Now why don't you tell us what happened since you're a know it all?.

  7. Mitchell is "the deep voice announcer" on The Red Eye All Nite Truckers Fun Show on Cumulus every night -- and a regular bit poking fun of because of his pipes.

He even does promos that say "I've crossed over ... and so have you." And he's on the show all the time ... a show owned by Cumulus.

  9. Clearly, KCBS not only has ratings, but also has management that doesn't spend the day with their heads buried in dark, moist, body cavities, suffering from cumulitis. Shaub will make a great addition, especially following the recent loss of veteran reporter Bob Melrose.

Now, someone from KCBS should get together with Mike Amatori, over lunch, for a little heart-to-heart talk. Mike would make a world-class humor and production addition to an already seasoned lineup of radio professionals at KCBS.

Now let's all pray that Cumulus, or Clear Channel, or some equally boneheaded neolithic mega corporation doesn't take over KCBS. We'll all have nothing better to do each morning that sit around and listen to sound clips from old Captain Kangaroo shows.

    1. Does KCBS have a sense of humor? Dry, stiff boring news. Blech.
