It's official: KGO-TV/ABC7 adds 4 PM Newscast; Beil/Johnson team debuts May 26
KGO-TV/ABC7 has made it official: The SF ABC 'O and O' will begin a new 4 PM hour-long newscast beginning May 26.
Larry Beil and Carolyn Johnson will anchor the program, which will emphasize consumer news, business stories, health, and a heavy dose of breaking news and weather.
Beil, an ESPN alum, will reportedly continue to read the sports he's anchored at Channel 7 since 2001.
Johnson is a twenty-year veteran of KGO and currently co-anchors the stations' 6 PM newscast.

Rich,
ReplyDeleteIs this the writing on the wall for 7live ? They will need to generate some ad revenue from somewhere.

How do you have a heavy does of breaking news? What if nothing is going on? There won't be any breaking news to cover. I always get a kick out of hearing stations claim they cover breaking news. Well, isn't that your job? Isn't that what news is, new stuff that is happening now?
ReplyDeleteLarry Beil, Raj Mathai, Mark Ibanez, all sports guys doing the news. (Ibanez once in a while) What's next, weather people reviewing movies?
ReplyDeleteI could be wrong...but I remember it was at least 20+ years ago KGO TV said they were offering a class for woman who wanted to break into broadcasting...no matter their background. And almost like a modern reality show..the graduates were shown. And-again fuzzy memory- I think that class included Cheryl Jennings-red hot blond, and Lisa Stark...for years I was sure the third one-agains't huge odds for all the woman was Soledad O Brian...but it might have been Carolyn Johnson instead.
ReplyDeleteWhat a miracle that those woman..out of the blue would last for decades when others-by hundreds if not more, have come and left the business. Amazing.
Is Carolyn Johnson under-stated in her public garb, choic of dress. If so its kind of refreshing vs. some of the gals showing off their store bought accessories.
ReplyDeleteWhere is Kate Kelley these days?
Saw her at a CAL baseball event. Her looks are still HOF material.
I'm surprised that local newscasts still have sports segments...
ReplyDeleteNo, there's not a lot of breaking news at 4pm but it will help them have better coverage and more info for their 5 and 6 pm shows. News is cheap to put on. Makes sense. Now KRON will really have to step it up to retain its 4pm audience.
ReplyDeleteThis newscast will bring nothing to the table.
