Heather Holmes, a weekend anchor/reporter at KTVU, is mere months away from the end of a contract and supposedly being nudged out the Oakland Fox affiliate, according to one of my broadcast sources.
I'm being told that Maureen Naylor is management's top choice to replace Holmes on the weekend.
Both are capable news readers but it was thought all along by local industry observers, (perhaps Holmes too,) that station top brass has been more than happy with Holmes work. She's been at Channel 2 for almost five years and has won multiple Emmys, but Naylor apparently is the top pick over Holmes.
Another factor: Naylor is cheaper and has also bagged an Emmy, (Holmes contract is in the $200K range.)
Nothing is concrete yet, but look for the change soon.

No pretense anymore of woman of color considered for a Fox affiliate.Or, As Henry Ford once said, "You can have any color of anchorwoman you want, as long as it's caucasian and blonde".
ReplyDeleteHolmes always seemed too good to stay put and could easily be the top reader in another market.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Maureen Naylor has heard this before but she does look a little like Maureen McCormick. "Marsha! Marsha! Marsha!" Does that make Heather Jan Brady?
Heather Holmes is the only reason I watch KTVU weekend nights. Not only is she a beautiful woman, she seems like a genuinely nice person who does a fine job of delivering the news. I have often wondered why she is not anchoring a national weeknight news program.
ReplyDeletethe reality is the 'star" anchor, high priced 'talent" is a thing of the past. The business model in local broadcast news is to keep costs low...why pay an anchor anymore than what they have to when there are many younger, prettier and cheaper reporters willing to do it.
ReplyDeleteGone are the days when a Heather could just go to LA for more cash....hell...they are slashing talent payroll in LA too...
I was watching her on Saturday night. So beautiful.
