Back to the STORM WATCH and TEAM COVERAGE; Weather Orgasm Saturation Continues; Thursday First Take

Finally, what they've been waiting before. The real stuff is here! Get out the blue jackets. TEAM COVERAGE mentioned umpteen times! STORM WATCH!

Yeah, I don't get it. I'm continually amazed how much time we devote to weather. This time we finally have an excuse because the heavens decided to deliver.

An aside: How many times have you heard pompous reporter say, "You know, this may seem like a lot of rain but we're STILL in a drought--this is a drop in the bucket." (Oh, just shut up!)

Wow, a sinkhole! Oh my god haven't seen that guy in awhile! And count the number of times you see the proverbial tree-falling-on-house story. It happens every now and then but here you get twenty or so daily.

Did I mention there's a sinkhole in the Richmond? Two! In case you didn't know. Back to the STORM WATCH and BREAKING NEWS!

Happy Times at 900 Front; KGO-TV Beats Competition Handily in November '14 Sweeps

Happy (ratings) times at KGO-TV, (ABC7), where November Sweeps numbers are in and the worker bees are happy. Handily

Quick Notes--

#1 at 6PM:
ABC7 News 6PM continues as the top-ranked 6PM news station among Bay Area households with 35% more viewers than #2 ranked KPIX and 67% more viewers than KTVU.  And ABC7 News 6PM has more House Held viewing than KNTV and KRON combined.

ABC7 News: #1 at 11PM
In the 11pm news race, ABC7 News beat stations by huge margins in households and key demos, including  A25-54 and  A18-49. ABC7 had impressive growth at +14% A25-54 and +23% A18-49 compared to November 2013.

Ed Lee: The Only Guy That Screamed Louder Than The TV Reporters At The Giants Victory Parade

I think he'd be a great emcee for the Oscars though.

Bonus Points: Orange Fashion Suit makes him look like Anaheim Real-Estate agent.

Raining On Your Parade; Retro Radnich Is Good On KNBR; Poor KTVU; Darya Likes KRON Reporter Mad Bum Undies; UPDATE 1: Little Kid Screws With KTVU, (Video)

I've been going back and forth --TV and radio--everything I expected, too much to absorb, you knew that was coming and you were right.

There's a parade coming.

I finally gave up early before the festivities when some bizarre KRON reporter showed his Mad Bum underwear to always-reliable-giddy, Priestess herself, Darya Folsom.

Darya to reporter: "Hey, you're wearing my underwear!" --

Some things are best unsaid. I'll leave that for you.

It's hard to crash parades particularly when you're dealing with a catch-22 equation. How dare YOU rip our Giants! Well, I like the Giants. It's our noble media mavens who should take a step back, like...

*KTVU: I mean, for god's sake, you've certainly cemented yourself. When normal people goin' nuts in the orange and black booster club complain, you know something's wrong. I'll say it again with an addition: I can't find fault with KTVU slobbering over itself; after all, it aired the World Series and covered the obligatory Giants/fan/SF Bay region orgasm; all within the realm of conducting business and making money, and that's what it's all about, M.O.N.E.Y.

That being said, like a lot of you, I was sickened by anchors wearing orange ties and alleged reporters acting like the lunatic fringe. Do your job. OK, have fun too, but try to report, not succumb to the Darya card.

*Gary Radnich on KNBR: Radnich was by himself on Knibber this morning and was good. He's always good when he's alone. He didn't tow the line; he explained that indeed the Giants, their fans, all of you, Bay Area, have it good. But don't get too nuts and show a little deference --I'm slightly paraphrasing but it all sounded good. Moreover, it was a welcome respite from the sound and fury of his sidecars. When Radnich is by himself and devoid of the platoon, he can be Retro Radnich, which is both entertaining and refreshing.

*Check back for updates --maybe, maybe not. Depends on my mood.

SF Bay Area August '14 Radio Ratings; KCBS/KNBR Hold Serve; KGO/KSFO Tied; 95.7 FM 'The Game' Continues Into Oblivion

KGO's transformation can't come too soon as it ties KSFO. (Must be a real party at 55 Hawthorne).

The Game --95.7 FM all-sports foray is still an abject failure, (how does the PD keep his job?)

KNBR holds serve, as does KCBS.

*Once again, the so-called "beauty-contest"-PPM numbers are not the ratings advertisers use to buy time but reflect who's being listened to and who is not.

KTVU Would Like You To Know There's a Parade Saturday Night In The City In Case You Didn't Hear And It Involves Dragons

In case you haven't heard, there's a parade in SF tonight.

KTVU has been plugging its Chinese New Year extravaganza --at least 7-8 times on Saturday's night's 5 PM newscast.

Wait, make that 10 times! And we're not even counting the extra live shots this morning on "MO2."

We don't denigrate Channel 2 for pubbing a significant cultural event for the Bay Area.

We wish, however, they were a bit more prudent placing a televised commercial venture of their own into actual news content. I know ethics long ago departed the local TV News handbook.

On the other hand, it could be worse.

Breaking: The Latest Cumulus Bloodbath; KGO Radio Traffic Layoffs; Only Mark Nieto Spared; SF Cluster Gloom At 55 Hawthorne

Cumulus, the company that might as well adopt consolidation as its corporate logo, has let loose again--this time at its SF headquarters, more commonly referred to as the 55 Hawthorne cluster.

Late Thursday, the cloud company had another bludgeon; a mini-downsizing if you will.

This time, KGO Radio was the latest recipient of the Dickey family consolidation.

Those let go involved the entire traffic division. Google Radiate.

Those receiving their walking papers are not household names although I'm sure some of them have house payments and families to feed and will no longer be employed. They include Clark Reid, Paul Rogers,  and Sherry Brown ,  Carolyn Burns. There's others on the list but I was not able to confirm the  names through some of my sources. Only morning drive traffic anchor, Mark Nieto was spared.

I also heard they let go of some reporters--this MO might be a chance to explain how they operate. Or, as a staffer told me:

"We're a news station in SF with NO air coverage, and we outsource traffic to a place in Dallas where they pay them Less than they do here. That's LIVE and LOCAL for you."

About reporters, Cumulus' lean and mean cuisine is nothing new in the broadcast community. Only here, the carving has been minimized by the presence of the union at KGO. The motto: We hire someone who will work for less with no experience.
