Thanks for the update Rich. Dennis looked poorly at Haener’s celebration, but one adjusts their viewpoint as people age. Get well Soon is all can say to DR. As far as the Golden Boy from Fresno - Jake Haener - 1 run for -1 yard. Something tells me he rides out the season and then gets a offensive asst gig at a WAC team this Spring. Sure beats grappling with lung cancer, which will kill me in 2025.
Or maybe he can launch a car wash empire, he’s certainly had enough practice detailing Derek Carr’s truck. That, plus his extensive experience spraying Gatorade into teammates’ mouths during timeouts, all while rocking the classic polo shirt, khakis, and backwards ball cap uniform. A true multitasking legend!
You don’t say. Wow. Are you sure? If true, Ibanez has a “Ticket to Ride” as goes his signature home run ball highlight call. I miss Mark Ibanez and his vinyl room. Now we are left with know nothing cheerleader dreck with no flare.
9:40AM, Julie and Mark are FRIENDS. They have a FRIENDSHIP. You know, that thing that happens when you work alongside someone for more than two decades. Anywho, friends are wonderful. You should leave the basement and try making some.
2:11PM goes off on 9:40AM just for saying “Does Julie’s husband know” as if he/she brought up all the comments here. Probably Haener herself deflecting although not sure why 2:11PM got the brunt of it. I noticed a lot of this in these comments sections - strange which comments will set someone off versus others like from the person making the actual assertion (for example of an affair) in the first place.
Ohhh, Hope he recovers well, I remember coming home from work and watched the news with him and Elaine Corral anchoring and loving every minute of it, God Bless

Oh Dennis, the reporter who bully female reporters forcing them to leave….Elaine Coral, Leslie Griffith and others except Julie who needs Dennis as a backup to work until retirement. And now Bully Mike still needs his approval for a permanent female anchor pissing off Heather not getting the 10:00 spot
Yeah, yeah, yeah. All that nonsense is meaningless background noise. The ONLY thing that matters is that Dennis was respected and trusted by viewers. NO ONE can dispute that. (The same can’t be said for Mike ‘Constipation Man’ Mibach)
"The ONLY thing that matters is that Dennis was respected and trusted by viewers. NO ONE can dispute that."
I can. How do *you* know he was? Did you take a poll? Do you have access to internal station data? If so let's see the results, under a lengthy discussion of your procedure and error correction methodology. I can follow the math as I have a considerable background in discrete math, calculus and linear algebra, so go wild.
1:51, ah, the ‘prove common sense with advanced math’ gambit—always a bold strategy and a favorite of internet trolls with no basis to support their opinions. Because nothing screams ‘trusted and respected’ quite like anchoring for 40 years in the same community. If you’re determined to apply calculus to human sentiment, that might explain why the obvious escapes you. But hey, it’s not my job to educate the ignorant. I’ll leave you to ponder that on your own.
Dennis Richmond is a legend from the era of REAL anchormen. Mike Mibach isn’t even worthy of sniffing Dennis Richmond’s jockstrap let alone anchoring the same newscast Dennis did.
Dennis Richmond stared into the camera and read words written and researched and edited and fact-checked by others. He barely understood the news he was reading. He commented that he didn't inflect his voice much in his delivery because "I'm not paid to give you my opinion," and while that sounds laudable, the real reason was he didn't understand very much news. Edward R. Murrow he was not. Heck, he wasn't even Pete Wilson, and there was another smug, full-of-himself jackass.
Rich good call on not discussing Dennis health situation it’s not just hippa laws but karma. Its no one business but Julie Haner still put it on social media which isn’t cool.
1:20pm, I'm certain Julie got his permission to take the photos and post them on her Facebook along with her written narrative detailing his health conditions.
I was also taken aback she made a FB post of him in his hospital bed. the Richmonds may have allowed it for the purpose of receiving good thoughts and prayers during this critical time and I am sending all mine. He was such a big part of our lives when TV was how we got our news back in the day.
Wrong. Can thank the thing you're on, the internet. All the advertising that used to be on TV is now online, so when you watch the news or anything else on TV you see three commercials in a row for some personal injury attorneys or a company installing cheap hot tubs. Television has no choice: no one watches it anymore and TV news will probably be gone in 5-10 years, or it will be run by volunteers and broadcast on the local public access channel. The same thing is happening right now with newspapers.
I can hear the Happy Couple honeymooning in Vegas, after watching the boy wonder throw his 3rd interception of the quarter. I bet Dennis Richmond is glad he does not have to endure such silly drama as the Ibañez-Haener pairing.
Instead of phasing out Dennis Richmond, upper management at the station should have suggested that Dennis Richmond reduce his heavy workload in May 2008 and remain at KTVU instead of allowing him to retire cold turkey. He could have done occasional anchoring and even special commentary. To entice Mr. Richmond to stay, KTVU could have pulled out all the stops to offer him a sweet contract to remain with the station as an elder statesperson, transitioning into an emeritus role and being the quintessential KTVU Ambassador. In that role, Mr. Richmond could have lent his news voice to KTVU’s promotional materials and taken part in high-profile outreach events out in the community on behalf of the station. Even though he wouldn't be at the anchor desk, Mr. Richmond would still be active in a very unique Emeritus role and be part of the KTVU family. His presence could have still remained synonymous with the station's legacy, likened to the iconic roles of Morgan Freeman and Sidney Poitier in film and Walter Cronkite in broadcast journalism.
Satire at its finest! You had me going for a while but the last sentence was way over the top. I don’t know if he was as clueless about some of the news he read as some say but his strong authoritative appearance and delivery sure was good.
He came in, read scripts someone else had written, and re-read them on the air at 10 for less than one hour. Then he went home. For that he was paid lots and lots of money, more than many people make in a decade of labor.
Do an internet search for Rich's "Monday, June 29, 2020" for a tell-it-like-it-is column on Mr. Richmond. I met Dennis at a Communications Department dinner at St. Mary's College and he was a total jerk. Rolled up in his brand new Jaguar and shades on. Came and had dinner as the guest of honor, did his speech and walked out without speaking to those of us eager to follow in his footsteps. Dennis never cared about the little people and could care less. Karma?
Sounds like the Dennis I knew at the station. He created a toxic work environment before that phrase was even a thing and he enjoyed it, because it gave him power.
Wonder if Sara Sidner will be visiting with him any time soon. As a former co anchor, now with CNN, she probably has a lot to say. And why does Richmond keep saying "I feel bad"? Said the same thing to Haener during her final broadcast. Odd dude.
Dennis was a specimen back in the days. We worked out at the same gym for years. He was a beast. Hope he recovers well.
ReplyDeleteDennis also worked out occasionally at Norman Marks gym at 14th & Harrison in Oakland. He was indeed a beast.

DeleteJake Haener 0/0 for -1 yards. Time for the Saints to give him his walking papers and bring in a legitimate backup QB.
DeleteHey haters, Derek Carr left today’s game in a cast. Looks like Jake Haener will get the START next week! Look for Julie in the stands.
DeleteJulie Haner posted about it on her Facebook and included various photos. On a related note, it looks like she and Mark Ibanez are officially together.
ReplyDeleteIbanez couldn’t handle it, “and that’s the sporting life”

Delete“…it looks like she and Mark Ibanez are officially together.”
DeleteWhy? Because they visited Dennis Richmond, along with Bill Martin, during hospital visiting hours?
"I miss Mark Ibanez and his vinyl room."
DeleteI was always hoping he would eventually show us the Leather Room, the Gimp Room, and the Strappado Room.
"On a related note, it looks like she and Mark Ibanez are officially together."
DeleteDoes Julie's husband know?
Can you imagine what Ibañez says as he comes? "TICKET TO RIDE!"

Elaine and Leslie were hardly pieces of cake either. I worked with both of them. Self-absorbed and delusional.
DeleteOne of them was nuttier than squirrel shit.
