Welcome to the "Shit Show"; KCBS Circus on Sunday Morning Takes Place (Again); Lisa Chan at Center of Storm (Again); Dead Air; Gaffes; Bumbling and Stumbling; Re-Airs Taped CBS Programming Multiple Times; Where's Jennifer Seelig?--Never Mind

Can it really have taken place again?

Yes, it can and did so painfully and unintentionally funny on Sunday morning.

KCBS was a MESS. Stop if you've heard this before and you did not so long ago.

It all began to unravel in the early morning, between 6 and 9 AM --a three-hour period that seemed to last forever. But before we get to the good stuff, we should report KCBS tried in earnest to cover up their own gooey mess by running taped programming --it didn't work. Bact to that in a few moments.

Incompetent, ill-prepared and bizarre anchor, Lisa Chan, was once again at the center of the storm and made to look (and sound) foolish. This is an ongoing comedy deluxe at the alleged all-news (740 AM/106.9 FM) Audacy SF outlet.

Chan's misfotune commenced at the 7 AM hour. Her weird tendency to allow DEAD AIR after each traffic/weather report didn't stop just there. After almost every local report, Chan didn't immediately begin her anchoring. A good two-three, even 5! seconds of, yes, you guessed it, DEAD AIR, was heard on the air. It was not every now and then, it was a CONSTANT--after each report! It's painful to listen to, after you stop LAUGHING, as I did.

But wait, there's more!

At one point, after the bottom hour CBS News at 7: 30, a reporter's story was REPEATED only seconds after it was aired; but realizing a mistake occured, the report (by Megan Goldsby) was CUT OFF seconds later (awkward at best) and a clumsy toss to traffic anchor, Ted Ramey, made things even more embarrassing and murky. Ramey almsost gave the wrong time before recovering and correcting himself.

At least there wasn't more DEAD AIR.

Until after the 7: 45 sports update (old news) when more DEAD AIR, courtesy the inept Chan presented herself. It's apparent Chan doesn't know how to run a board and appears incapable of just the most adequate form of anchoring.

How BAD is KCBS?

Normally at the 6 AM hour, it runs news and traffic/weather, only today it re-aired taped CBS news programming and re-aired 2X! its Sunday morn "In Depth" show--apparently trying to cushion Chan's inability to announce the news and save itself (and the few listeners) further embarrassment. I have no idea--maybe KCBS couldn't get anyone else out of bed on a Sunday morning to read the news. Obviously, KCBS doesn't give a shit about its Sunday programming because this is an ongoing crisis.

KCBS is led (if that's a proper word) by ND Jennifer Seelig. Seelig either herself doesn't care or is resiged to the incompetence.

Here's the thing: the rank and file at KCBS know there's issues and is aware of the problems that continue to resurface and PLAGUE the place. I know because I've heard it from someone at the scene of the crime. It's evident on Sunday but it's also happening during the rest of the week too.

Seelig gets a pass. From corporate. And is allowed to carry on without any repercussions. It's beyond embarrassing. A KCBS source said of Seelig: "There's no accountability here."

They went further: "It's a shit show."

  1. I hated Sunday morning KCBS 30 years ago. It still sucks and so what else is new?

    1. Did anyone hear last night's screw up - halfway through 60 minutes they started re-playing the first segment, after a minute they figured it out and switched to the correct segment...

  2. But what really matters is whether Chan was wearing a home team's baseball cap during the fucked up RADIO show, right?

  3. I heard Useless (Lisa Chan) and immediately tuned my car radio to Bloomberg on SXM. Something was amiss when Chan introduced traffic at 705 this morning. Something was amiss when she opened her mouth. Something was amiss when she got up this morning.

    1. I don't have SXM but I turned to Bloomberg 960 to hear the national news and political shows. Everything was perfect, great actually. How can a station based in NY with 500 watts beat a station based here in SF with 50000 watts? KCBS is bad but when you can compare them with Bloomberg it is beyond crazy. Bloomberg should have the 50000 watts and KCBS the 500.

  4. Total shitshow. Now when I want news, traffic and weather I go to my phone. I don't really use the radio in my car. I owned it for two years before discovering it has an HD feature, that's how little I care about it.

    1. Welcome to the 21st Century, 11:10. Your response is why I no longer listen to ANY all-news RADIO: Whether it's here...when I'm in LA (KNX) or in NYC (WABC). I go to my phone because I want to see VIDEO.

    2. Ehhh, it's early Sunday morning. Who the HELL listens to local talk radio at this gawdawful time slot? Everyone is sleeping in. Those who are up are doing other things....or tuning in to TV for network news (I like to leave my TV on for some background "noise"...and will run to the room if I hear breaking news or an interesting story that I want to see.

  5. It's sad to see this station go in the dumper. It could be the bay areas top station.

They always cut whoever is good and give more airtime to people who suck.

    3. Right, I loved Jim Barnett of the Warriors games. They cut him for a doofus and put him on away games radio. I really miss him on TV.

  7. That doofus is Tom Tolbert.

  8. I don’t mind the dead air. I just wish Lisa would speak up, so I could hear her. I wish they’d bring back Melissa Culross weekend mornings. For me, she’s easy to listen to.
