A Mother-Less Mother's Day; Martha Raddatz Clumsy Interview with Gov. Asa Hutchinson; Sunday Musings

FIFTH YEAR IN A ROW...and still hurting.

A mom-less Mother's Day. I thought I could get on with it and not think about it but while out this (Sunday) morning to grab a paper (I still like reading a printed newspaper) I saw a gathering in Montclair (Oakland) --they were having breakfast. Mother, daughter, son, kids, family. Laughing, eating, schmoozing. Wonderment.

And then I ran to the car and headed home. Thinking and remebering. Oh well.

Miss you mom.

*It was good to hear Jennifer Hodges on KCBS this morning --and not someone else.

*I normally really like ABC's Martha Raddatz and Sunday's "This Week". I still do, but...

Raddatz's puffy interview with Arkansas Gov, Asa Hutchinson this morning was, well, puffy. Lots and lots of softballs.

The topic was the Supreme Court's apparent intent to overturn Roe v Wade.

While Hutchinson tried to dance around some lame Raddatz questions, the GOP's "moderate" voice was allowed to dance and dance. Raddatz, known not to take BS and follow up when needed, allowed the gov to be uber hypocritical with relentless posturing about women's needs and "sensibilities" while speiling the GOP's ancient "rights of the unborn."

Stop.

And did one Martha Raddatz.

*The whole week we talk and talked about the abortion debate. On and on. It's good. We're a nation that is proud about passionate debate. And abortion is one of those red-meat topics. I'm pro choice, for the record.

While the local news-talk albatross mentioned the Supreme Court leak, they overall, gave it scant attention. I would have liked a centralized debate, an entire consistent two-hour/plus all-star debate, a program that could have been acomplished a local highlight show and it would have cost nothing.

Instead, one host talked about her kids. Again. Another was centered on crazy Florida. And another thought it was ripe to chat about the movies.

Next.

  1. I know your pain Rich. I lost mine over 3 decades ago and still miss her. For some of us losing a Mum is really hard on us.

  2. Better segment was Nina Totenburg speculating that the leak came from the right of the court to force some justices to lock in their decision as they hunker down!

Mom's been gone 8 years and I too think of her every day.

  3. The all-star debate is a great idea. Remember the KGO host debates. Appointment listening. Today KGO doesn't have the stars to do such a show. It would be one or two chairs on an otherwise empty stage.

    1. Kgo debate, would be john rothmann vs steve Moskowitz on who can explain the EITC in 15 minutes or less..then rothmann would debate himself on which one of the three harold stassen biographies he wrote he would donate to the library of congress

  5. Debating, the old days when it's about the topic and not personal attacks! Nixon, Kennedy, Bush and Clinton look more attractive everyday!! I feel for anyone with a daughter between ages of 15 -50 now who don't live in CA. While CA isn't perfect, woman don't have to worry about a 3rd party deciding about their bodies.

  7. They talked about it on every show all week long. Of course they lightened things up on Friday. They’re catering to a general audience, and a general audience doesn’t want to hear one topic for hours. Listener fatigue is real and experienced programmers know to mix things up after a while.
