Beyond her usual solid anchoring, Hodges did a good interview with a Washington Post columnist about tonight's White House Correspondents dinner. It wasn't some banal few minutes but a complete, informative, point-on interview that delivered on so many fronts. Imagine that. And Hodges sounded adult and compelling, as did the woman writer from the Post.
It was like the old days and KCBS, for once, sounded straight-forward and devoid of technical glitches and doofus anchors. What a concept.*One thing Mike Mibach has going for himself as he begins his new 10 PM gig at KTVU: he's generally well-liked at the station. While maybe not respected as much, being well-liked, I guess, might be more important in today's world.
*I wouldn't be surprised if a station were to challenge suddenly vulnerable KTVU at 10. It wouldn't be shocking. It would probably involve a sister station and it could happen by the fall. Just a hunch
*Not only has KGO Radio's John Rothmann avoided any mere mention of his Covid-19 ordeal--in which he missed two weeks from the schedule--Rothmann hasn't even mentioned the pandemic in general (strange) and quickly dismissed a few callers who tried to get his take on the spike in infections (here)--Rothmann's activity is simply bizarre and out of place and raises more questions and invites gossip.
Jennifer Hodges is solid. She's a journalist, unlike some of the nitwits at the KCBS School of Broadcasting. So glad not to hear that annoying Lisa Chan. If she wants to work weekend mornings, Starbucks can use the help.
ReplyDeleteShe went to the Roberta Gonzalez School of Solid Backsides.
DeleteI worked with Jennifer at KGO for many years. She is smart, kind, and pleasant as can be.
DeleteMany of us out here who follow Rothmann would like to know how severe it was. We are among hundreds of thousands in the Bay Area who are fully vaccinated, fully boosted, and fully masked, just like Rothmann was. Still trying to stay away from Covid as was Rothmann, but realizing that may not be possible forever.
ReplyDeleteThus it would be nice to hear a real life encounter with Covid instead of the nearly universal dismissal of symptoms as nothing at all.
From the little we know it sounds like Rothmann and Thurston had more than the "just like a cold" symptoms.
Strange thing, Thurston got Covid despite her constant consumption of Balance of Nature capsules.
Seems at odds given that product's ability to cure nearly everything and Super-Boost one's immune system.
Wow, I guess the daily dose of 4 grams of powdered produce, won't offer complete protection, even after spending $100 a month. A shocking failure.
Rothmann is probably embarrassed that he let himself get sick, and that he likely was the vector that brought COVID into his workplace (though we can never know for sure).
ReplyDeleteWe do know that, according to his coworkers, he flauted workplace masking mandates when they were in place. We know he was at a party with about 30 unmasked guests shortly before he got sick. We know COVID is infectious before symptoms set in, and that Rothmann was at work, infectious, before symptoms kept him home.
So what should he be saying about the past 2 weeks? Well, "Mea culpa" would be a good start. He could use this as a teaching moment, using himself as an example of what not to do. He could encourage everyone listening to get vaccinated / boosted right away, if they are not already, because the vaccine likely saved him from permanent harm, if not death.
That's how he could gain some respect from his listeners and coworkers. This pretend-it-never-happened nonsense is chicken shit.
Rothmann embarrassed that “he let himself get sick?” Like the million others who let themselves die?
DeleteNot a Rothmann fan but he did nothing wrong. There is no evidence Rothmann attended a party while he was experiencing symptoms. Must assume he went to a party while feeling fine. Life is supposed to be back to normal with practically everyone vaccinated. If it turns out that the asymptomatic Rothmann unknowingly infected people at the party, that is fine. We can't all be hiding under our beds.
DeleteNo one said he attended a party and got people sick. He threw a house party with 30 unmasked people and then showed up sick at work a few days later. No one would be upset if he just got sick this way, but he’s a hypocrite.
DeleteHe lectured his audience for years and covid prevention and has a cavalier attitude toward Covid-19 prevention around his coworkers.
To begin with, he has family flying in and out of the country, so that party was ill-advised. Second, sticking your hand into a coworker’s bread and double dipping is gross and further demonstrates a lack of hygiene. Thirdly, walking around maskless at work after a direct family member exposure is unconscionable. That happened a few months ago and it complaints were escalated to management and SAG-AFTRA.
Instead of getting tested himself, he told a coworker to get tested and share the results with him ASAP. He’s irresponsible and selfish.
Why do you think Kim has refused to come into the studio? She’s smart and didn’t want to put her family at greater risk. That’s 4 hours of exposure every day, awhile he rants and raves a few feet away.
Kim mccalister was on witn thurston today, was she doing it remote or is she back in the studio?
DeleteMaybe Jenifer Hodges could replace the morning Holly Quan.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it *possible* that Ms. Hodges doesn't want a full-time, Mon-Fri gig? Maybe she has children and needs to be home on school days, or the hours she'd have to work would be a dealbreaker? I don't know her situation, but you have to believe that some people have personal situations that limit their flexibility. Just sayin'.
DeleteJennifer Hodges' kids are all adults. She lives in Santa Cruz.
DeleteVaccines have never promised full immunity. Clean well fitting masks and gloves are great barriers..but nothing is perfect. Avoiding other humans is critical. People get sloppy about clean masks around friends...etc... thus viral spread. One can be positive and feel fine , but still be a risk to others.
ReplyDeleteCurrent weekend anchor should replace Sara Donchey, I doubt Sara will stay for long looking at her previous bio. Whoever do weekends, any anchor will be fine. And, Eric Thomas should be back on TV.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what the rest of you are listening to, but I've heard John Rothmann mention having COVID several times. It's true he hasn't spent a lot of time talking about it, but the other day I heard him tell a caller that he was extremely sick, and that he believes he would have died if he weren't fully vaccinated and boosted. Also, I remember him talking about it briefly on the first day he was back on the air. He's not going on and on about it, but it's not as if he's pretending it didn't happen. His show would be pretty boring if that's all he talked about, don'tcha think?
ReplyDeleteYou mean like when he went on and on about his colonoscopy for weeks???
DeleteHe liked it and asked if they could do it again with a wider scope to be sure
Delete12:31 Disgusting comment, not sure why it got posted, has no reverence to anything. Just a smart ass comment.
DeleteActually Sara Donchey is not as bad but it depends who she is paired with. When I see with her and Reed Cowan there is chemistry but with Ryan a big NOPE...
ReplyDeleteHe sure was quick about lecturing people on Covid 19. Then co workers post how his attitude was opposite at work. His ego and condescending nature turn me off. He is fake and his general eagerness and fake outrage everyday are laughable.
ReplyDelete100% accurate! -coworker
DeleteJust waiting for Rothmann to bite somebody's head off who calls in and says " democrat party".. or insults raymond burr, richard nixon, george reaves, or herbert Hoover, all his personal heros as a youth
ReplyDeleteJuliette Goodrich, in addition to filling in this past week for its evening anchors, Sara Donchey and Elizabeth Cook, was anchoring solo last night on KPIX 5, as her co-anchor, Brian Hackney, took the night off, due to COVID concerns.
ReplyDeleteAny concerns can't have lasted long because Hackney was on the show tonight, in the studio, sitting right next to Goodrich.
DeleteI think Jennifer Hodges is very good but KCBS is not really worth listening to much anymore. Virus talk 24/7 mixed in with climate change and racism. So depressing. All I want any more is the traffic and a weather report once in awhile. Today I spent my time listening to the national broadcasts on Bloomberg. Easy on the ears and I actually think I learned something.
ReplyDeleteLet's see how Pat differs from John when she returns today.
