It's not an all-out bluesville at PIX's newsroom but there is a very noticeable sullen indifference. I'm being diplomatic. I hear the place is depression-central.
*The repercussions over the Kevin Walsh sudden "retirement" are just hitting the desk. Walsh really didn't retire. His understudy, the fired former ND, Mark Neerman and his lengthy issues at the office, had a lot to do with Walsh's undoing. It wasn't the sole reason but it played a big part. Walsh is staying through the end of the month but he already has one foot out the door.
*Sara Donchey began her PIX stint last night. I caught a brief glimpse; so far, so good. She's not spectacular but she looks and sounds solid. I'm not sure she's thilled beginning at such a tumultous time at 855 Battery but so it goes. I'll have more of an in-depth take on Ms. Donchey, an LA CBS O and Oer, when she gets her feet wet.
White has a lot on her plate.
*Between PIX and KTVU, there's a whole lot of drama taking place here and when you hear KRON is relatively peaceful (for the most part), that's sort of scary.
*No, Aaron Pero has ZERO chance of getting the PIX gig, someone has a bizarre sense of humor.
*I love Pat Thurston (for the most part) on KGO but her giggle is starting to seriously ANNOY me.
It is.
I'm not sure why all the hate on Roberta Gonzales. She's not perfect, but she's a heck of a lot better than rambling, bumbling, mumbling Bill Martin.

DeleteI agree, she's fun. The weather is not fun. Watching gray-faced Steve Paulsen call in his weather report from what looks like a motel room is not fun. Rosemary gigantic Zoom head with a orchid over her shoulder is not fun. Roberta in the studio with her cool Ronettes hairdo is fun.
DeleteMaybe it's just because I'm used to her after seeing her early every morning on KPIX for years, but Roberta Gonzales is certainly no worse than Mary Lee on KPIX in the morning now. Lee is a low bar, to be sure.

ReplyDeleteMark Tamayo is the most boring thing on television who also belongs in a smaller place. Our tv here is pretty awful. San Diego is smaller and way better. Everyone here is fugly.

ReplyDeletePat Thurston is neither an airhead, nor a ditz. Is a talk show host supposed to know EVERYTHING? I have heard her use that phrase, and at times about something I know, but then she knows about things or historical events that I do not. Now Niki Medoro didn't know that the origin of the phrase brownshirts and that they connected to Hitler's early rise. I found that hard to believe, but then she was not born then, I was born in Denmark right at the end of the occupation by the Nazi's, so I have a different perspective and was taught that part of history not only in schools, but also by my parents. Having said that not a fan of Niki, she does come off as an airhead, because of the topics she chooses. She was much better when she was on with Chip.

DeleteI have seen Sara Donchey a couple of times now, and honestly, once again, I think whoever did the hiring was out of their minds. I mean, there is something about her face that is really weird looking. How do they come up with these people? I still say that that Devin guy who was anchoring KPIX morning news on this morning, Saturday morning, is really great and HE would be great at doing the evening news!
ReplyDeleteRich, I have come to the conclusion that at some point, almost everyone you write about starts to annoy you. You use to like Rothmann, now it is fake outrage, you use to praise John Daly as a producer now he is useless, you have blogged positively about Pat and her program for years, not her giggle is starting to annoy you? Really, is it giggle or laugh, women often get accused of giggling when they merely laugh. Now when it comes to Niki Medoro you are right, she giggles all the time, and it is annoying. I wonder if you could go back and listen to Gene Burns, would you find something about him that annoys you as well? Familiarity breeds contempt, someone said once. Sounds true in this case, perhaps if you expanded your column and wrote about more hosts you would not be so annoyed.

DeleteIf you ever need a laugh, do a search for Da Lin. Rich absolutely gushed over the guy for about 6 weeks, and then one day he just hated him. I get it, I hate Da Lin too, but that's because he gets to bang Erica Kato.

Classic example of botoxed divorced soccer moms who think they're still hot and relevant.
