Darren Peck |
THURSDAY QUICKIE OPEN
I was surprised that KPIX passed on in-house favorite, Darren Peck to get the fulltime weather gig. Peck had positioned himself well at the studio, made the most of his tryouts and did relatively well anchoring the Monday-Friday weeknight weather. What was not to like? Well, according to one of my PIX spies, a lot.
When PIX hired a back-east guy, Paul Heggen for the gig, I had to do a double take. I wasn't alone.
Peck, from my spy, is sort of a jerk. In fact, more than just hat. "He's got little-man' syndrome," said the contact, who knows well considering they work right there at the scene of the crime. Observing the Peck man.
Peck didn't endear himself to staff and had a habit of telling underlings he was in charge. A massive ego to boot. Maybe he thought he was loved by another schmuck too, the jerky, ND, Mark Neerman. What an utter imbecile this guy is but that's another story.
Paul Heggen |
All the weather people are basically telling us the same thing. Even the graphics on the stations are similar. I don't think there's a bad forecaster in the bunch.
ReplyDeleteNow, the guy that left KPIX for Chicago has his work cut out for him, not like the Bay Area, where it's more or less the same all the time.
I feel that Paul Heggen fits in pretty well with the others.
Hackney was the guy they should have given it to. The smartest guy in the room, the smartest guy in the building, the smartest guy in Bay Area television. For some reason that's a liability, where smiling droids like Julie Haener. KPIX doesn't realize the talent they have on the sidelines. Idiots.
ReplyDeleteNot a liability, when he provides versatility. Seems to me that Hackney can make broader contributions in his current roles. Weekend anchoring, combined with spot-weekday anchoring and weather/science.
DeleteHackney has lately been drooling all over Goodrich to the point you want to smack him up side the head. It's like he has no other focus in life. It's also barf worthy.
DeleteShe's married and not available, he needs to find someone of his own to massage his very weak ego, not that anybody appears to be interested.
I saw Hackney really messing around with Juliette on Friday evening. One comment kind of disturbed her even though he said it was a joke. It’s very evident he misses her on the weekends.
DeleteThe way he acted really made you feel that you wanted to smack him upside the head. Darren Peck is better; heck Mary Lee should have done an evening fill in, she is great take it from me.
Bright side was at least he doesn’t dress badly like Paul Heggen does, and he is on vacation overseas tropical.
Darren Peck is awesome . Not sure who is coughing up the bad info .
ReplyDeletePeck is fun and interesting to watch. He presents a weather forecast with information and explanation that you don't get anywhere else. He doesn't seem like the type, personality wise, to be ego tripping.
DeletePeck acting like the smartest guy in the room. Never would have guessed that. His whole bit is talking down to all the viewers.
ReplyDeleteI rather seen Darren than the sad face, Paul. Brian should never ever go back to weather.
ReplyDeleteIt's a 3 year old post, I know. I agree, too. There are things I do not like about Hackney when he does the weather. He is good, has a better personality than Heggen for sure. The problem is he can waste time sometimes with trivia and history related stuff taking time away from the context and discussion of the topic - our weather forecast. He doesn't go extremely deep into the weather topics that much (i.e. atmospheric rivers). He has a mensa style IQ in which some of the vocabulary he has literally threw me off - Peck, Heggen, Lee and Burch are much better in this regard. But he does give the forecast in a crisp way like every other meteorologist (Peck takes too much time explaining something that can be said in a few minutes).
DeleteIf anything, Hackney should retire and call it a career. Why not move him to primetime for anchoring and just be a secondary backup for weather.
Today, Peck is off, and maybe he might be off the rest of this weekend so no other than Brian Hackney is filling in. It's definitely a well deserved & earned break he has after doing so many fill-ins throughout the second half of the month. Sometimes he may come back tomorrow evening, who knows?
Are we sure Peck isn't making more than Heggen - maybe it was a money play?
ReplyDeleteI guess Steve Raleigh and Lisa Argen were back east transplants and served well. Heck so was Mark Thompson and PETE GIDDINGS - Nashville to KGO.
Joel Bartlett and Bill Martin are the only ones who started in Norcal and Bill's the only native.
"Can we all just get along?"
ReplyDeleteAt least Heggen knows the proper way to button a two button suit.
ReplyDeleteLooking much better, Darren!
DeleteTo me Darren Peck is kind of boring & digresses too much sometimes. Paul Heggen is painful to my eyes! Someone please put a bag over his head! Sometimes he speaks too quickly.
ReplyDeleteIf they were smart they would have hired a hot woman. Paul was great, hard to replace.
ReplyDeleteYou got Zoe Mintz now but she can fill in for Paul Heggen
DeleteI actually like Paul Heggen. I also like Darren Peck. I guess when you boil down the criteria for being a weather person, it all revolves around your personal interactions with the people around you. Nevertheless, both weather people are really enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteAnne Makovec is long overdue for a full-time anchor position.
