It's Official: Ken Wayne Major Crap at KRON; Aveson Dull, Wayne Duller; Thursday 415 Media Opener

 IT'S SO DAMN EASY TO PILE ON KRON...like I did Wednesday, but what else is there to say? You build crap; you look like crap; you sound like crap; there's a lot of crap here and KRON specializes in crap supreme; you can set the dinner table with plastic forks and knifes and serve prime rib but it would be cold and lousy and taste like shit; a KRON dinner.


KRON can't help itself. It wants to look good and produce quality newscasts but even when it's at its best, the overriding evidence remains the same: KRON still sucks.


Can we finally just say it now and officially stamp it: Ken Wayne is boring and lousy. The anchor he replaced, Steve Aveson, was also boring and lousy. KRON could just as easily hired the foodie chap and have similar crappy numbers as they currently do on virtually all their news platforms. The product looks stale and unbecoming like dry fish.


Wayne himself is adequate but lacks any kind of zip or vigor. He could be more passionate, committed, show signs of a pulse, but that would be asking for the moon. I'm not suggesting that Wayne scream and yell but he could be more emboldened and show some emotion. Which presumably was the reason he was hired at KRON because Aveson was a total dud both on and off the air.


Wayne became available when KTVU and the Fox-infused upper bosses thought he was too vanilla for a guy making $300K-plus and didn't fit the company playbook. KRON had a need and eventually Wayne took a 50 percent pay cut and works the evening newscast with Pam Moore. It's a low-energy exercise in futility and there's no it factor other than watching Moore look as if she's thoroughly uncomfortable and Wayne looking like, well, Ken Wayne. You begin to wonder who the hell ordered this nothing buffet.


There's no denying Wayne is a dedicated newsman. He is honest and trustworthy and doesn't make a fool of himself. As a hobby, Wayne flies airplanes. Loves it and does the Blue Angels routine every Fleet week. Wouldn't it be incumbent for KRON to send a crew and do a special on Wayne's passion for flying? Hell no, that would require ingenuity and creativity which isn't a part of the KRON playbook.
