*I'm getting tired of CNN and I'm a part of their amen corner so yes, there's something wrong there.
*Rachel Maddow is right most of the time but her MSNBC shtick is quite tiresome, she too all of a sudden.
*Bill Maher: like his politics but don't like him. Smug jerk. And remember, his jokes are courtesy of about ten writers.
*When the entire off-air staff at KTVU think Pam Cook is a yenta, well, I rest my case.
*Matt Lauer at CNN? Well, talk about an instant ratings bonanza.
*The Bay Area used to have a lot of media characters; anchors and reporters with soul and conviction. Real dedicated passionate folks that were appointment TV; now we have posers. Vanilla wafers and melba toast amateurs who'd be lucky to make it in Buffalo.

*The other day at Tadich Grill, a high-priced TV News consultant was lunching at the counter with a woman not his wife. It was late in the afternoon and a glass of wine after lunch soon became a few bottles of wine. She was dressed in a black pencil skirt and grey pumps; probably early 30's with red hair and white blouse. He was in his late 50's with a black suit and soft-blue power tie and got overly giddy and she began to giggle and cackle uncontrollably. I was near the perimeter of the action quietly sipping my diet coke and finishing off a bowl of New England clam chowder; he didn't see me, she too but I had a clear view of the commotion. I knew he was a consultant because I had seen and net him years ago at some industry cocktail party. I think he was from Utah, of all places. So anyway, he left the restaurant with the sexy redhead not his wife and left the waiter a handsome tip. I do not believe the two were going to his hotel room to comment about the sourdough bread.
*Would you ever read about the above item in the Chronicle?
You HAD to mention the clam chowder. Now I need to go down the street for a bowl. :)

Just curious, if Maher's program would be better, more interesting, with 12 staff writers instead of 10, would you object to that too? Me, I'd say go for more writers if it makes the program better. I don't know of any national comedy tv program that doesn't use a whole staff of writers to come up w/comedy ideas. Comedy is hard. Requires a lot of work. Hiring staff writers is how it's done.
"And remember, his jokes are courtesy of about ten writers."
ReplyDeleteThis statement would work just as well for Colbert, Stewart, Bee, Kimmel...just insert any raging leftie lunatic.
6:36PM, Joseph Goebbels, dat you?
Delete10:28, Jussie, dat you? How's it working out in Chicago?
Delete2004 Air America Radio--10-12 staff writers seems to be a "magic" number for these types of shows/networks:

From the beginning of Air America, Walsh believed that a sugar coating of comedy would help to sell his political views. He decided, therefore, that the network would “nuggetize” news and opinion into entertaining programming. As Walsh explained, this process will work “the way that you have a dog, you crush up the vitamin pill into the dog food.”
When it launched its operation, Air America’s staff of nearly 100 included 11 full-time writers, most of whose work was to produce jokes and comic bits. They were recruited from Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, Court TV, Oprah Winfrey‘s cable channel Oxygen, and elsewhere.
I too am getting tired of CNN. I figured it out for myself, maybe this is why you're tired of it too:
ReplyDeleteCNN tries to present both the left and the right side of an argument. Which I like. The problem is that CNN has ridiculously stupid people on the right side to argue the Republican point of view: those guest pundits doggedly defend the indefensible and bend themselves into pretzels doing it. They say up is down, white is black, etc. They all employ the Kellyanne Conway-method of victimhood, interrupting, speaking nonstop, arguing, etc. And it's just not good to watch.
I am very much enjoying Brian Williams's show because his mantra is "no fighting."
