KTVU War: Ibanez and Somerville No Longer Talking; 'Trust Issues' and Then Some; 415 Media Exclusive

Longtime KTVU anchors; Sports Director Mark Ibanez; Lead News Anchor Frank Somerville are hardly talking to each other. Their relationship has soured, most of it being off the news desk and all of it PERSONAL.

How bad is it between Frank and Mark? For starters, they both used to work out at a gym up the street from KTVU's studios on Broadway. No longer.

Ibanez no longer trusts Somerville, who has a ginormous amount of personal issues on his plate. One has to do with spreading false info about "certain things", according to a reliable station source. "It is something involving a potential problem,"the source said-- now it's been fairly contained." I know the issue and its variables and I'm going to hold back for now because of the sensitivity of the subject mater. It's not that big a deal, for now.

Ibanez, I wrote earlier this week, has largely stayed away from the problems affecting the "10 O'clock News" anchors, until now. His relationship with Somerville has deteriorated to the point where he simply thinks "Frank is awkward --he's not the same guy", Ibanez told a contact at Channel 2 and 415 Media was able to corroborate.

Making matters worse: as I reported this week, the 10 PM gang are fraught with their own issues. "Nobody gets along and everyone is at odds at trusting each other," an Insider told me. The irony? KTVU News used to have a slogan: "Thanks for trusting us." Even though we don't trust us!

I'm hearing top KTVU brass might be planning a beer summit so that the fearsome foursome get their issues ironed out. Even then, the turmoil that currently plagues KTVU's star 10 PM contingent are not likely to be washed aside anytime soon, especially Ibanez and Summerville.

In all this mess, KTVU continues to wipe out the competition at 10 PM as its done for nearly two decades. When and if the numbers begin to erode, expect intense action by the suits. The "Ten O'clock News" is still Fox's cash cow.

  10. Still with the petty bullshit and personal attacks, eh Rich? Some things will never change nor will you. Go ahead - throw some Yiddish terms at it - its what you're good at, besides prying where you don't belong.

    1. Yo 9:58: You believe in Santa Claus too? This is real. It's not fake news. The truth hurts. You can't handle it, go read Dr. Seuss. Putz (a Yiddish term, I believe)
