The Wednesday Wash

*KRON, you still look bad. Sound bad. The antiquated music from the 90's. The cheap-looking set even though you're in a new building. The lousy stories. The Toledo-looking reporters (not all) the 196 weather reports even though there's no weather now (and probably not for a few weeks) The stale anchors, especially Ken Wayne, a sort of Sears-meets JC Penny aura --if KRON were a car, it'd be a 72 Pinto with two spare tires and a week-old tuna sandwich from 7-11 in the back seat.

*And then there's KPIX, still the same, in spits of news and more news at 7, it too caught in eternal stagnancy and lousy morale. Everybody has a resume out. Sure, all you can love the ND, but now that it's known CBS is about to axe $100 Million bucks and you're on the list. Ouch. Did someone just yell "buyouts?

*I'll believe it when I see it: the idea that KQED is looking at a weeknight 11: 30 entertainment show. It sounds great but probably just a rumor. This should be a no-brainer but such an enterprise would cost a lot of money and KQED, in spite of 5 million pledge breaks a day doesn't have any money. Except for managers, that is.

*Yeah, sure, Mark Willard is better then the rest of the kitty litter on KNBR but that's like saying peanut butter and jelly is better than liverwurst.

*Mark Thompson: the fake voice when try to emphasize. Just be yourself, Mark. Which would be authentic and original or Mark has your LA invaded the bloodstream --although KFI at one point was like the old KGO.

*Remember the good old days when radio people just talked and took a few calls? When the listener actually listened and the entertainment was listening to the host espouse his/her opinion on topics of the day. Now, we have gimmicks, lots of noise, stupid sound effects and audio garbage thrown our way every five minutes. Even playing actualities for news sake has an annoying aspect. We should be labeled the dumb society and in twenty years we will be.

*I don't know if you know this but Facebook jumped the shark.

*Then again, Jumped the Shark jumped the shark too.

*The "Ronn Owens Report" just entered the CSPAN5 department.

*Ronn supposedly got uber-pissed off the other days because Gavin Newsom was busy taping Anderson Cooper Show on CNN. The governor told Ronn, "It's not 2005 anymore, Mister Lowenstein."

*The KGO people except two who are on the air, I'm sure it's no coincidence that this blog and its readers continually talked about KGO, making sure it remained in the local news domain, I don't know, what, a thousand years? Again, just sayin.

*Like I said a million times, "Armstrong and Getty." Google "Branson, Missouri."

*Paul Deanno math vs CBS-SF (KPIX) Basically, he wants $50G more and they (CBS) won't budge a penny over $300G. Deanno has the leverage; CBS has the money. Call it a draw for now.

  1. Not used to the targets of your criticism replying to you on air, are you? Armstrong and Getty pretty well had you pegged as a radio gossip columnist this morning

    1. The winning lineup is Bastida, Cook, O'Donnell, and Hackney. Professional, accurate, complete, ethical journalism, news, sports, and weather.

  3. Like I said a million times, "Bay Area Media." Google "Third World shithole" and you'll see the Bay Area over the past 15 years and next 30. The old Bay Area media landscape Rich opines on about? It's gone. It's over. Stick a fork in it, it's done.

  4. Funny listening to Cook report on the College Bribary scandal about parents paying for privilege for their children.

  5. The KRON music is from the 1980s Rich, ...not the 90s..so fact check please.

The music sounds like a 1980s video game of "Whack-A-Mole" as you score after a whack.
But they show tv anchors with music
    Whack..Whack..Whack
    Weather next....score.

  7. the perfect media person to host a radio talk show here would be tim kawakami and greg papa..two rude, arrogant, egotistical pompus condescending windbags arguing with each other for three hours a day!!

  9. KGO wishes it was KFI. Love ya, Rich, but geez. Your knocks on LA make no sense. What SF media personality wouldn't jump at the chance to go to a bigger, better, higher-paying market like LA? Syndicated shows from LA to SF aren't inherently worse just because they're from LA, and personalities returning to SF from LA don't lack empathy or fill-in-the-blank. You belittle the LA market as if it's smaller and less important. Quite the contrary. That would be like Wichita making fun of Chicago. Just makes no sense.

    1. Your Wichita/ Chicago analogy is faulty. If you must compare Los Angeles to San Francisco, a better choice might be New York/Boston.
