FAREED LEAVING NBCSBA for NBCSN in Connecticut  --415 MEDIA EXCLU

I'm hearing from a good source tonight (Thursday) that veteran NBC Sports Bay Area anchor, Ahmed Fareed, is leaving the Bay Area sports cable behemoth and headed for NBC Sports Network / Connecticut.

There's no official word on why but the Greg Papa effect might be one reason as Papa is in virtual control on all three of its primary sports affiliates --49ers, Giants and Warriors pre and post game host --that's a lot of time allotted for Papa and some of the little people might be a little ticked off.

The official explanation will be the usual corporate spin but that's why you come here.

I was never a fan of Mr. Fareed but then again I'm no fan of a lot of people. The world will still survive.

  1. Fareed was originally from MLB Network, which is based on the east coast. Back home perhaps??

  2. Wow, I'm pretty shocked by this. I thought for sure Fareed would stay at NBC Sports Bay Area since he's been doing Giants pre and post.

Good point about Greg Papa. I wonder if this means that Greg Papa will go back to doing Giants pre and post next year, unless Dave Feldman does it full time. Greg Papa had a better rapport with Estes, Flannery, Rich Aurilia, Randy Winn, and the other regulars on Giants pre and post, than Fareed and Feldman did.

I also wonder if Fareed will do other things in Conneticut. I remember he covered the Winter Olympics earlier this year, and he covered that Rugby game at AT&T Park this past summer. I'm guessing he will be doing more stuff outside of baseball in Connecticut?

    2. @8:51- haha. For real. He always brings up when he was in Washington covering the sports teams there. Might as well go back, even though he's from here.

    3. @12:06- I for real thought Dave Feldman was going to go to Michigan when Harbaugh went there. I guess so much for them both being friends in high school in Palo Alto. LOL

  6. Papa much more knowledgeable AND entertaining. Rich, you obviously don’t watch or listen to sports. Papa has the history of Bay Area sports in his DNA. I couldn’t give a shit if he’s rude to people behind the scenes, why does the public care?

    1. Papa and Ratto bring a knowledge of sports history that the newbies do not because they have been around so long. I cringe when I hear on the radio the misinformation about the 49ers, Raiders, A's, or Giants. The current line of radio hosts don't know their history. When Papa and St. Jean are reminiscing about their times on the road, they are a riot.

  7. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out, Fareed. Too swarmy.
