YES, HE'S GOT A THING FOR BRUNETTES does KGO's Ronn Owens --be it Lisa Bloom (the daughter of Gloria Allred) or radio shrink, Dr. Tara Fields, who he's had on a number of times before it was discovered that Fields really got Ronnn's attention but placed him in the doghouse with his wife, Jan Black. Six months of solitary confinement.

Fields seemed to genuinely like Ronn only things escalated --the problem is that she too is hitched (Fields is married) and that doesn't work out long term unless you're into that kind of thing.

Bloom, as a reader points out, was not thrilled with Ronn's gushy and mushy play and her people did complain to KGO upper suits. I don't know but probably shouldn't mess with a woman lawyer whose mother is a lawyer.

Owens background doesn't indicate any women issues but this particular affair wasn't too kind to the one-time mayor of Union Street.

He's been reduced now to a "report" --an eight-minute solo act on KGO where he daily begs the Cumulus guards to let him have his show back and become relevant again which he's not capable of but maybe a two-hour retro show where he can schmooze and do occasional interviews might be in the mix.

Ronn Owens has no ego of course not
Just keep brunettes away from the premises.

*Meanwhile, across the street, the acrimony between Stan Bunger and yenta supreme, Jan Wahl is the talk of the KCBS newsroom.

Stan apparently thinks his shit doesn't stink and Wahl challenged him --off the air of course but the moody blues that permeate 740 AM is indicative of cat fights like this one which is not a good sign for Countess Seelig.

If Bunger wanted to show his influence he might wing a fist at arrogant egotist reporter, Jeffrey Schaub, who thinks he's so great he wants to go back to TV even though that's long been lost in the woods.

*More news on the TV front is that CBS higher-ups like Juliette Goodrich almost as much as I do and want to see her in a more prime time role; again, I've been on the bandwagon in the past.

It doesn't take a brain surgeon to realize that Goodrich has more star power and pizazz on the news desk at KPIX with Ken Bastida.

That's not to denigrate Liz Cook who I've grown to like a little more but Cook doesn't have the mojo to help Bastida; Goodrich does.

Juliette Goodrich slowly inching to prime time on KPIX
She loves working weekends and evading the suits at PIX along with being able to hang out with her kids and husband only I get the feeling (just a hunch) that a little pay raise and flexibility should land her on weekdays at either 5 or 6 and definitely 11 PM. It's called business. It's something that should have been instituted years ago but Dan Rosenheim was too busy having adult beverages with the sports guy.

*SPEAKING of SPORTS, seems Scott Reiss, the #2 or 3 anchor at KTVU wants significant more air time and not throwaway gigs.

He had some interest from CNN not so long ago but didn't make a deal and thought Atlanta summers would be too taxing and the Bay Area is OK, especially a family guy like Reiss.

Scott Reiss
Reiss comes across sometimes as too robotic but he has screen presence and can write too; which might explain the tension between him and former Mr. Nice Guy, Mark Ibanez who just signed his last contract extension and is apparently become a male diva.

That's too bad because Ibanez was once considered one of the more enlightening personalities on KTVU until one night a few months back when he stabbed (figuratively speaking) a good friend in the back. It made for interesting chatter in Jack London Square.

  1. Often times I read this blog and leave.
    But today was worth it.
"If Bunger wanted to show his influence he might wing a fist at arrogant egotist reporter, Jeffrey Schaub"
    Funny post and so true.
I think many others would want to do the same.

  2. Scott Reiss could have a shot at the weekend gig at ABC7 (KGO) or the main gig at KRON4. He'll be the second defect from KTVU to KRON

  4. Ronnnn better be extra careful these days regarding the "Me Too" movement. Powerful men have been brought down for less "gushy" and "mushy".

    1. Personally, imagining Ronnn Owens with any of those women is creepy ... an old bald guy?

  5. The obsession with Ronn is getting a bit strange...
The guy had/has a well deserved career, outlasting nearly everyone.
Turning over every conceivable stone looking backward, or imagining every conceivable current interaction (the new mayor)...says very little about Ronn.
Rather it is a reflection on someone's personal fixation with another individual.

  6. WHO was it, Rich?
Who did Ibanez (allegedly) stab in the back?
    Well,.... we're all waiting.

Meanwhile, when is KGO going to put somebody new and different in the morning 10am to 12noon slot?
I can't 'Ethan' say his name anymore.

  8. Would KCBS do us all a favor and get rid of Sports? Fill it with national news. If I want Sports, I'll go the Leader. KQED does just fine without Sports.

    1. Here, here. I agree. A total waste of five minutes every hour.

    2. Completely disagree and no way is it a 5 minute segment unless Madden is on. You can have your KNBR droning on all you want. Steve, Kevin and Bruce do a nice job, all pros. What is a waste is the heavy spot load. It's the single most irritating thing about KCBS. Is it just perception or has it gotten worse since CBS sold them?

  9. I really like the sports guy who is on air when KRON4 Gary Radnich is away. Forget his name - brown hair, young

    1. I don't watch KRON. YouTube TV doesn't carry it, and I can't get it over the air. Is Henry Wofford already gone?

  10. I still don't like KCBS airing 3 minutes of network news during the day and then going back to the local stuff. This doesn't happen overnight. I want the full newscast on the hour.

Another thing ... why does Big Brother have to display the gay flag on the dining room table? Aside from the fact that executive producer Allison Grodner is a lesbo. Do they have to keep shoving this down our throats?

    1. July is Straight Pride Month. We have claimed the Fourth of July as our holiday and the American Flag as our symbol of straight normalcy. Let's celebrate!! After years suffering the insults and aversion of a small but vocal group of San Franciscans, straight people finally have a voice ... and a holiday, a month, and a flag. Party like there's no tomorrow!

  11. I third the idea of KCBS getting rid of sports. If I want to know a score, I will look it up on the Internet or listen to a sports station. I turn to another station every time sports comes on KCBS. If I care about a game, I already know what the score is and I am not interested in teams I am not following.

  12. Agreed. The sports segments overnight and weekends are dreadful, repeated over and over again. I, too, switch stations at :15 and :45.

  13. - Very boneheaded of Lowenstein to mess with Allred's family. He will be extremely lucky if he only gets grounded by Black after Allred spoke with Black.
    - Bunger v Wahl! Winner is the one who stinks less (Hint: Really is in the Bay Broadcasting Hall.)
    - Need to do some contract gymnastics with both Cook & the matter-ravaged VDLC before giving Goodrich the respect she deserves.

  14. I can just see Gloria Allred and her daughter in the press conference announcing their lawsuit against KGO and Ronn. Gloria will be staring so sadly at her daughter, and Gloria's hand will be rubbing her daughter's back in an attempt to comfort her. The daughter will be crying and explaining all the humiliating things Ronn did to her. I've seen the same scene with Gloria Allred at least a dozen times.

  15. Embarrassing moment for KCBS. Saturday night they aired a one-minute “green science” segment on “free energy.” Apparently energy can be produced for free but the government is refusing to release a report on it that would bring the oil companies and utilities to their knees. Remember the perpetual energy machine scams of the 60s? Such a bogus junk science story would never air on CBS, but this is Entercom, so anything goes. On Monday morning you’d think management would be asking some hard questions about how such a ridiculous story got on the air.

  16. Well you can make the argument that there's virtually nothing on KCBS that you can't get on the internet. News, weather, traffic, stocks and yes, sports. It's basically there to serve the commuter who hopefully is NOT scrolling through the internet while driving. Leave sports alone, it's part of the all service package and they have great people (during the week anyway) staffing it. Plus KNBR no longer does sports updates, only long form talk so it's no longer a place to go to get a brief overview of the latest. The biggest tune out on KCBS is the commercial load and sponsoring of every mega-second of airtime.
