Okay, so how long before CBS hires someone else Rich doesn't like, and he starts pining for the "good old days" of KPIX under "former ND Dan Rosenheim?"
Nobody has heard any stale song like this before. Now this is what we call a major TV station getting its biggest wakeup call yet! Here come more PIX changes! Though of course there are a few obvious keepers (think Goodrich & Deanno, for starters).
WOW! KPIX 5 is last in every newscast! Then again, why watch KPIX? Sub par anchoring, decent reporters.... nothing special... Every other station has a reason to watch... NBC Bay Area INVESTIGATES, 7 on your side, 2 Investigates, Gary Radnich... joking... Anyway, KPIX's "Original Reports" don't do it for me... And their "expect more" motto is used on literally EVERY CBS o&o...
On another note, Alayna Gomez is back at KTVU, so now they have about 6 anchors for 4 spots... Somerville, Haner, Holmes, Senior, Gomez, Rendon.... My guess is Cristina moves back to the beat, Heather, Gomez, and Senior switch around in the 4/7 newscasts. Interestingly, KTVU is hiring an "Anchor/Reporter" according to their website (job posted within the month).... Any idea why?
Most people still watch KPIX not as much because of the local angle, but because of their incredible network shows. The SF head honchos are finally listening to CBS HQ in NY, for the time being. PIX needs to match CBS and then some; the time to redo its news is now.
Alyana never should have been in the anchor chair. She has no on-screen presence, no sizzle, just flat. Always looked like she was trying a bit too hard not to show any emotion, and the result was this omnipresent scowl. I suspect the weekend anchor desk was a temporary assignment KTVU gave her to ride out her pregnancy months, and now that she's had the baby she'll be going back into the field. She's an okay field reporter, but not ready for prime time as an anchor.
Cook only moves if it's back to LA to work at KCBS-TV. Her family is a big part of the newscast industry. VDLC, Martin, and a few other newbies would go first.
Now KPIX needs to either outright cancel or radically restructure their absolutely wretched KBCW NightBeat at 10 pm on 44 Cable 12. Watching Veronica De La Cruz twiddling her hair every few minutes while reading the news along with screeching Game On! to Playboy Sports Anchor Dennis O'Donnell during his sports segment is hideously unwatchable.
The Biggest mistake that KPIX made was getting rid of Frank in the mornings for Kenny?! That will go down as the biggest head scratcher EVER!!! Kenny is a nice Man, but he just does not fit in, & it is very obvious.
Dan has been one of my best friends for 25 years. Let the record show:
Dan is the dean of Bay Area television news directors. He’s been at KPIX 18 years and ran KRON for 4. 22 years makes him the longest running news director in Bay Area history. Television has only been around about 70 years. He’s been news director for almost a third of TV history. He was in the newspaper business for I think about 20 years before that. He is the last of a generation of ink stained, roll up your sleeves journalists in TV news. His transition to broadcasting was seamless, unless you remember his first day at KRON when he walked in front of a studio camera while it was on the air. He has led KPIX through some trying times but it, and he, have always come out of it better off. As technology has changed he has not only kept up with it all but has helped lead KPIX into the future: Facebook news updates, live streaming, multi media journalism. He is the smartest person I know in television news.
He was horrible. CBS and Danno ran kpix like a used car lot for years and it finally caught up to them both. Let's hope sharp is next. They have been under paying and "abusing" field staff in a horrendous manor. (daily hiring like illegals at home depot) Good riddance to the lot of em.
Ya when they got rid of "Ken Bastidas" ...good question segment on every newscast ...I quit watching...
ReplyDeleteKPIX
I quit watching after they canned Russamano...so long ago.
DeleteI STARTED watching when they got rid of Roberta Gonzalez
DeleteI do like Neda, yes!

ReplyDeleteI could swear I've heard this song before.

ReplyDeleteLet's hope Disney also wakes up and dumps Trixie!
ReplyDeleteAmen, 3:31! Especially after the Roseanne cancellation! Time for the local ABC station to following the network's example!
DeleteAllen Martin was so stunned by the firing he almost had a human facial expression.

ReplyDeleteyup, I used to watch the 10 news until they went to night beat
DeleteWhen you see the talent of Juliette Goodrich being wasted on a Sunday evening... enough said.
ReplyDeleteYup.

ReplyDeleteBye bye Dano. You sucked!
ReplyDeleteReally attractive way to talk.
