Carr Fire Gets Full Coverage by Bay Area TV News; Dangerous Assignments; Props to KGO-TV and Laura Anthony

Related imageTHE Carr Fire gets more intense and tragic by the minute; all the Bay Area TV News stations continue to provide full coverage with a host of live trucks and reporters covering the continuing devastation in Redding and Shasta County.

I want to give kudos to KGO (ABC7) Reporter, Laura Anthony, for some first-rate coverage from the scene of the destruction.

It's particularly hard to cover and the environment and obstacles are plenty.

Here's some video and pictures courtesy ABC7.

* I WANT to emphasize the degree and difficulty in covering these massive wildfires. I've never been on the front line of one of these disasters but I was witness to and experienced the Oakland Hills inferno in 1991; at the time, the worst firestorm to hit an urban area ever in terms of loss of life and property damage and destruction. The North Bay Fires last October eclipsed that.

*To get to the scene and provide dramatic video, reporters and photographers --still images and video cameramen often have to venture out into dangerous terrain --they are of course, restricted by the fire people but they still operate under intermittent hazardous environment and have to be extremely careful.

  1. KPIX has 3 reporters and 3 photojournatlists in the fire zone. All 3, Joe Vasquez, Wilson Walker, and Katie Nielsen provided live shots at 5 and will again at 6. That is great coverage. I cannot believe I am saying this, but KPIX looks and sounds great right now!

    1. This fire was started by a car fire, it was over 100 degree, so far 2 firemen have died, and may have lost their homes. Would it be possible to just keep politics out of it for awhile.

    2. Dr Bill used to speak of this scenario ad nauseam on the old & great KGO.When the term environazis was coined it was perfect. Want to clear out some dead, diseased trees? No no no! Lawsuits! Courts! Many many many areas up and down the state should have been thinned out decades ago. Such a shame.

  3. After seeing Anthony's 4PM report, I went to Google Maps and timed the van run from 900 Front in SF up to Keswick, west of Redding where the entire town was destroyed. KGO-TV drove 4 hours, 36 minutes to get to the worst scene of all throughout the Carr Fire. It is great to see NorCal's real ABC7 appear as Redding's ABC7 is unfortunately co-owned by the CA-unfriendly Sinclair Corporation, who demands that their pro-Hairpiece commentary air against any local wishes, even during extreme emergencies like the firenado. I hope I am proven wrong. Video is horrifically sad. Thoughts and Prayers to the Sundial Bridge city and its communities.

This Tragedy has nothing whatsoever to do with Right, or Left?! People have lost everything in this Wildfire, yet your Clown Behind is on here talking about I.D. Politics?!?! The Conservatives are always bitching & moaning about Dems playing I.D. Politics with Race...But from where I stand the GOP is plays that game also, with LIBERAL/LEFT/DEMOCRATS! Cut the Bull Shit, & Pray for these people who have lost everything they own on Earth!

    2. Agreed 3:35. Such a shame all around. Some people are low IQ individuals that have to blame the president for everything to make themselves feel better. It is what they've been conditioned to do by MSLSD and CNN.

  4. Left right, blaming the President, blaming liberals, just disgusting, keep politics out of it. It is nature, and while it is possible some left or right policies might have made this scenario more likely, truth is even without that fires can erupt and spread quickly due to hot dry conditions and wind. 9:54 I think you totally misunderstood 3:35 comments. He seems to be saying keep politics out of it, which is my point.

Don't waste your time with 9:54AM?! He/She is most likely a member of #CULT45. They never ever see the Forrest for the Trees. Easy Snarky Clues to pick up on are "Low IQ, President, CNN, & MSLSD?!"

  5. My niece and her family had to evacuate Redding yesterday. Fate of her home is unknown. Fifteen friends of theirs have lost their homes. Three more dead, two children included.

Yet idiots like the above continue to talk politics.

    Astounding and revolting.

  6. The Carr fire has brought out an interesting mispronunciation of the word Shasta by some reporters. Some of them are saying “SHAU sta” instead of “Shasta”. They’re saying Shou like Thou. It’s not a big deal. It makes me laugh when I hear the various pronounciations KCBS traffic reporters have for “Cesar Chavez Boulevard” ... kind of like the two ways people say Nevada.

Dude--this part of the state is pretty Conservative-Republican. Nothing like this will ever happen in liberal San Francisco. So I guess this makes San Francisco smarter than those Republican-leaning people up there, huh?
