Now the issues...
Rosemary Orozco, the popular weekend and primary fill-in was clearly destined for something more prominent --weeknights on KTVU's early newscasts and even a potential 10 PM News replacement for Martin if he became expendable.
Only problem is, Orozco is not ready for prime time. That's not just my opinion, take it from several sources at the Fox O and O in Jack London Square.
Said one Insider: "She's (Orozco) real 'ditzy; not the brightest gal in the world." Which is not that big a deal, there's lots of not-to-smart people on local TV News, not just here, but everywhere. Only problem with Orozco is that while she looks great and has decent screen presence, her demeanor has kept her in KTVU's second-tier status in the weather department.
"Quite frankly, she's rather average and acts like a simpleton on the air," said another figure at the station. "She's just not that bright and she also does lousy forecasting."
In other words, there's no there there.
Which brings us to Martin who clearly has lost his luster at night. Martin used to have an allure, a real presence and personality to boot. Now he looks and sounds bored. Not to mention his forecasts have become farcical. He makes a lot of mistakes too. Worse, Martin seems at times, almost mumbling his reports. That's a harsh assessment but it's the truth.
A KTVU source:
"He leave the station immediately after his evening work to eat dinner (at home) and when he does his last forecast, he's the first out the door." Which wouldn't be such a big deal if Martin's reputation at the station has diminished --it has.
And while the ratings at 10 PM are still dominant, clearly Martin has lost his touch, enough to raise rumors on the street that KTVU might be looking for another primetime weatherperson or replacing Martin. That would be an extreme move but not out of the question and given the competitive nature of the news business, not at all surprising.
On Monday, I will talk more about this from another angle.
Martin is poised, professional, and a native who knows the history.
ReplyDeleteSure, not Mark Thompson sizzle but he's authentic.
Do I see an opening for Samantha Mohr at KTVU, I have my fingers crossed, certainly hope so! Tomorrow is my birthday and if what I said is true, I couldn't ask for a better present!
ReplyDeleteClaudine Wong had the "extra special" look this morning. She does stand out and is extra special. Yes, she is player on the "Extra Special" team. Those offended by the beautiful women who are players on the "Extra Special" team, watch the Disney channel, not ABC7...watch the cartoons!
Love the women who stand out and are daring, they are "extra special" and always will be!
Glad to see all the "half people" getting out from behind their anchor desks, much easier to connect with a whole person rather than half people, great improvement!!
I prefer Deanno now at 10:15 on Nightbeat and jump over to KTVU right after. When they go to the last weather tease around 10:40 where they cut off the jingle to play a random song, that’s when I shut off the TV.
ReplyDeleteMartin stutters a lot with ums and uhs.
Tamayo is the only one who seems to know the system with the fancy graphics that pop out of the floor on the set like they do at KGO.
If Steve retires, Rosemary would be fit for the mornings if they want to go the FOX route with “image” to boost ratings.
It's just the weather. Tell me how it was in the previous few hours and what it will be from now to the next few days. If there's a related story regarding weather history; weather science; weather technology/equipment; or something else interesting within a minute or two, do it and move onward to other news.
ReplyDeleteDeanno is so far up Bastida's ass, he delivers breath mints.
ReplyDeleteSamantha Mohr has exceptional presence and professionalism. Would be a great addition anywhere.
ReplyDeleteRosemary Orozco is another exceptional presence and consummate professional. Don't know where the "ditzy" would come from except maybe someone who is jealous of her tremendous sense of style and polish. Rosemary is always right on the spot weather wise, is beautifully and appropriately dressed, makeup is exquisite and beautiful for her profession, always beautifully coiffed. She and Tamayo are my favorites on KTVU. They make weather interesting.
Bill Martin although he knows the bay area well has gone off the deep end. The mumbling and constant jibber jabber is getting out of hand. I really use to like the guy but he has just lost his thunder and lightning. Now he's just full of wind and fog.
ReplyDeleteMe thinks Martin can't stand Kelley nor being FOX-ified.
ReplyDeleteThunder, thunder, feel the thunder. Lightning and the Thunder!!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't think Martin looks bored. Getting a little senile is more like it. Or flustered. Flummoxed. He gets lost in his own mind while he's talking; you can see it.
ReplyDeleteKTVU has by far the weakest "weather bench." KGO and KPIX have the best.
I had to stop watching Steve Paulson when he started tweeting to himself...on air....smh
DeleteIsn't Sam (Mohr) back in her hometown of Atlanta? I hear she's top-dog there...and is happy to be home.
ReplyDeleteOh pleeeease. Bring back Flip Sliceland. No wonder TV is dying.
DeleteRosemary Orozco has kind of gotten full of herself. She crosses her arms when she’s on air, but the thing that drives me nuts is her constant giggling when interacting with the crew on air. Sandhya Patel and Lisa Argen are true professionals. Neda Iranpour sounds like she just wind sprinted to the studio.
ReplyDeleteMartin is by far the best on tv. He continually proves night in and night out that he does his homework. Patel is good too but she’s no Martin. Everybody else is not even worth mentioning.
