Is Jessica Aguirre Gone from NBC Bay Area?

Image result for jessica aguirre nbc bay area  AGUIRRE OUT AT NBC BAY AREA?

I'm hearing word (not confirmed yet) that Jessica Aguirre will not be back at KNTV upon the end of her contract.

I've alluded to it in reporting that KNTV has pursued former KGO-TV anchor (now at the LA NBC O and O) Carolyn Johnson.

Aguirre's status may or may not have anything to do with KNTV's attempt to woo Johnson.

Her (Aguirre) contract is up in March and it has not been renewed.

Nothing is official, but according to a source, Aguirre told a friend she was probably done at the station and referenced it on the air.

I'm on it.

Check back periodically or on Monday.

  1. Wonder if it was how much money she was making or that they felt somebody else could bring in better ratings? If I were in management’s shoes, I’d be looking for stronger weather and sports talent and leave her and Raj alone. Not having a sports anchor on the set is a drawback.

The overall presentation could use some energy and more interesting story selection. If they have a well-staffed investigative unit, they should be putting mouth-dropping exclusives in the A-block every night.

    1. That'd be nice, but *no* station here or anywhere puts exclusives in the A-block every night. Do you know how long enterprise reporting takes?

    2. I have a feeling they're just being cheap. If they were really concerned about ratings, or about expanding their enterprise, the first thing they'd have done is beef up their transmitter. Half the Bay Area can't get them, and they don't seem to care.

  2. At least, she is still on their web site.

  3. Jess had the "nerve" to stand up to Kevin Keeshan when he was ND at KGO. Keeshan the consummate A-hole, prefers Stepford Wives. Think Carolyn Johnson? So Jess moved to NBC. Problem is Disney fired Keeshan and he landed at NBC...Aguirre's now working for the jerk who fired her. Small nasty world.

  4. Maybe someone should call the Investigative Unit and have them figure this out?

  5. Jessica Aguirre is an excellent anchor and she partners well with Raj Mathai. While I liked Carolyn Johnson’s work at ABC7, I think Jessica should stay at NBC Bay Area as I see her as the anchor that made the station legitimate as the face with name recognition. Terlyn Joe and Allen Denton were small market anchors. Jessica and Raj can compete with Frank and Julie and Dan and Ama.

    1. Irony: Susan Siravo was kicked to the curb by KNTV when they hired TJ away from KGO...seems Susan was too "small-market" for them...

  7. This is karma. Jessica Aguirre yelled at me - literally YELLED at me in the newsroom of WSVN in Miami back in 1993. I was a tape operator and Jessica hoarded a tape that needed to go back to ops for editing. She hid it in a crate at her desk. I was tasked with finding and retreiving it. I looked in her basket and she tried to rip me a new a**hole. This is her karma, 25 years later!

  8. Jessica is part of the NBC brand. She's been at the station long enough to help create a relatable, friendly, familiar face for KNTV. It's important to keep people on the desk who the viewers know and love. Why take that away? When you move anchors around from one station to the next, it's hard to create brand loyalty. This is why Frank and Julie are so watchable: people know and love them. NBC, do yourself a favor and keep things consistent.
