While The Potrero Hill Shooting Left At Least 2 Dead and Several Hurt, Ronn Owens on KGO Radio Talked About Traffic in Downtown SF; UPDATED: 4 Dead

Image result for SF UPS Shooting  THIS is the difference between KGO and KCBS.

When news hit that a deadly shooting at the UPS Potrero Hill building broke (now 4 dead, several hurt) on KGO Radio, Ronn Owens acknowledged the news yet continued on! with a Muni guest discussing the traffic situation in Downtown SF!

Are YOU KIDDING ME?

Making matters worse, Owens had the gall to READ LIVE a hotel ad as the situation at Potrero Hill was still fluid.

KCBS on the other hand, had reporters at the scene and stopped regularly scheduled programming and went wall-to-wall coverage with the UPS shooting.

UPDATED 11: 29: KCBS is now reporting 4 dead at the UPS building; and Ronn Owens is still IGNORING, pathetic.

  1. I was out and about and turned on KGO a few minutes after 10...was so surprised that Ronn was joking and laughing with an UBER gentleman... I turned over quickly to KCBS and they were giving great details on both shooting. When I got home, I turned on the radio and it was set to KGO..inappropriate bumper music (considering both situations) and giggles from Ronn (too bad for Ronn that the idiot Crissy that is there with the BEARman wasn't there to add to the levity... When I think KGO can't sink lower...it manages to do it...shame on KGO and double shame on Ronnnnn

  2. Reggie Aqui was a hot mess covering this story. Don't EVER let this fool cover breaking news again. Thank god KTVU brought in Claudine Wong to balance out Gasia's hyperventilating. Wong is a real pro.

    1. I happened to be home when the UPS shooting hit the airwaves. I was able to follow KTVU, KPIX, KGO and NBC
Bay Area. Jaxon Van Derbeken was all over this story with facts about the number killed and that the shooter
had turned the gun on himself and died as well. This report was almost 30 minutes before Vic Lee did a live segment with the same info. KTVU had nothing but mindless chatter. By far, KPIX was the absolute worst.
Co-anchor, Ann Makovec actually said, "CNN is reporting that two are dead." REALLY Ann?? CNN?? This happened in the same city in which you are based. Why do you need CNN? You have two reporters on the scene!! Sadly, Jackie Ward and Wilson something were not ready for the moment. Also, Michelle Griego -- Toney Chaplin is not a sergeant. He is the former Chief of Police. You've been at PIX for awhile. You've never heard of him? When he didn't get the top job, he now serves as Assistant Chief. Absolutely brutal job by the anchors and field reporters!!

    2. I've seen your pro-Wong posts here before. Hell, maybe you are her. Either way, I'm sorry but I couldn't disagree more. Wong always seems so lost in these situations. I still remember when she tried to interview someone on the fly once, the questions were so cringeworthy.

    3. Reggie reminded me of a school girl being crowned at the homecoming football game.

    4. 2:24 Lol. Yes I am Claudine defending my honor. What a schmuck you are.

Wong is a great reporter. She brought a lot of insight to the story by her knowledge of the area and having connected with sources before going on the air. She isn't a great anchor interviewer but she is one of the best reporters at KTVU and she brought that to the anchor desk today.

  3. I SPECIFICALLY tuned in to KGO and the BARE-MAN show at noon to see what he would talk about, given today's truly significant bi-coastal events. VERY BRIEF mentions of the shooting in SF, as well as, the shooting of the congressman. Then in usual BARE-MAN style, more time was spent talking about interest rates and now MORE DIET BS, which is just a plug for his guest's diet plan. He will likely spend the whole next 20 minutes on this. I don't believe there is ANYONE (well, maybe the Chipster) who is more DOUCH-EY.

    1. This comment has to be tongue-in-cheek. Ann was the lowest of the low this morning when she mentioned that
CNN was reporting that two were dead. Ann, this tragedy
was a 15 minute drive from your station and you had two reporters onsite. Why do you need CNN for your info?
      Rank amateurism!!

  5. Just another day of social decay in the Bay area and across the Nation. What social decay you say? How about 85 shootings on our Bay area freeways since November 2015.

    2. This is a truly disgusting comment. This guy was a nut job, a left wing nut job, he is the ONLY ONE responsible. Have we all lost our collective minds? Savage is on KSFO calling for shutting down Facebook, Google and Rachel Maddow, Sean Hannity (the 30 seconds I listened by default) is lamenting that the left is out to silence the right. Michael Savage was insinuating that Bernie Sanders, was not sorry about the incident and his comments was not sincere. So sad, I believe when a tragedy (or near tragedy, since no was killed) happens, they public figures who speak out is sincere, no matter the political bend, and regardless of whether I agree with them or not. On a day like today I miss Gene Burns more than I can express, and wish John Rothmann would be on tonight, I like Pat, but I'm not sure she is capable of the same sober analysis as John or Gene would have been. Please refrain from blaming anyone other than the shooter, and please don't try to score political points over this. As Robert F. Kennedy said on the eve of MLK's assassinations: "What we need in this country is not more hatred, or more division. What we need is compassion and understanding towards one and another." Not a direct quote, but close. Wish we had politicians today that could speak with that eloquence and compassion.

  6. Where was "The Bay Area News Station?"

  7. I guess I understand it. I doubt there are many people still at KGO who were around when they went round the clock with the San Bruno Inferno, or some other calamity back in the day. They aren't equipped to deal with it. Might as well be a country music station.

  8. NBC Bay Area had great coverage on the UPS shooting this morning with Cheryl Hurd leading the field reports.

    1. Cheryl Hurd arrived very late on the scene. It was Jaxon
Van Derbeken who was there from the start and gave info
that the competitors ended up reporting 30-60 minutes later.
