Bay Area Media Schmucks and Yentas

Image result for schmuck person Bay Area Schmucks and Yentas...

Cumulus/KNBR people who daily place a commercial blitzkrieg on air. On many occasions, more than a half-hour of ads in an hour. It's a direct hit on listeners who have become wise to the obnoxious KNBR sales staff --they now simply TUNE away from the station and thereby ignore the ad blitz. Pretty sooner rather than later, the ad people will wisely spend their money elsewhere.

Haddasah Goldberg
*Chip Franklin: Maybe one of the most annoying, irritating schmucks in the city. KGO's human noise machine with a voice that's more unnerving than fingernails on a chalkboard. Imagine this schmuck is rumored to be Ronn Owen's replacement. Franklin's cardboard chatter should be stuffed in a "My Pillow."

*Armstrong and Getty: Can't say it too often: these two schmucks sound boring, alike, and have all the audio comfort of a Reno Motel 6. Seriously, who would find these morons even remotely entertaining and informative? Many have pointed out they both sound the same; two cackling Sacramento mutts with about as much honesty as a "Rich Uncles" lecture. I say we send them immediately on a one-way ticket to Branson, Missouri where they can light up the town and have duel cackling orgasms.

*Gasia Mikaelian: the most annoying woman anchor in the history of Bay Area TV. Gasia is a prime yenta in the spirit of the word. She's irritating, talks phony, puts up a fake, phony face every day. Just a-grade yenta persona with all the serenity of a Yuba City bagel shop. Gasia, the hairspray and ketchup on a hotdog eternal yenta supreme. Extra credit: "Me, Me, Me!" Enough already, lady!

*Kate Scott: Hey Yenta Queen? You say ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! NADA, NO-THING! And while you have been able to make the KNBR frat boys feign over your completely false and utterly disingenuous demeanor, the rest of us have been wise to you from the beginning. Only horny white guys from the bowels of Livermore are interested in you. You suckered the Pac-12 Network and the 10 guys who watch that channel into hiring you. You fleeced KNBR and KNTV into taking you on --why? Because, honey, I guess they need bodies and dumb people and even the dumb people know now how so thoroughly vanilla and average you are, Katie. Your "My Pillow" needs to get fumigated.

*"Paulie Mac": This fake fraud with the fake New Jersey accent who writes and sings fake, lousy, irritating, unfunny, obnoxious, LOUD, idiotic, preposterous, stupid, dumb, BANAL, pathetic, retarded, song "parodies" on KNBR should be BANNED for LIFE from any Bay Area radio station but at KNBR, this el-doofus schmuck is considered "talent." You, Powlie, and New Jersey deserve each other.

Ann Killion
*Ann Killion: When the term, "yenta" was in the dictionary, this obnoxious, arrogant, overrated female cadaver scribbler should have been pictured next to the word. Killion thinks she's some Christine Brennan but she's actually a lower-grade Amy G with a pen and pad.

*Ross Palombo: The human wasteland --what KTVU sees in this smarmy, conniving, untalented ditz, I still haven't figured out. Maybe he has pictures of the GM's fascination with exotic and wild human particles.

The Bay Area Sports Guy
*Darya Folsom: "Uh, I'm, uh, hey, Gary, did you see, uh, that guy, uh, in Cleveland last night, uh, with the Cubs, uh, hat, who was, uh, really, really, uh, crazy?" "I mean, it was, uh, just so, uh, cool and crazy, Gary, I was, 'like, what is going on?" ...This "broad", as Trump would say, a total disaster. She is as phony as all get go. Not an ounce of sincerity. And she acts like some cheap, teenage, song girl from Whittier --a YENTA A+ with the fake celluloid dreams. Oy vey, she's so irritating.

*Damon Bruce: Schmuck, schmuck, schmuck, did I say it enough? Your bits have become tiresome, predictable, and quite frankly, boring. The only reason you're relevant is because everything else in this town is so chock full of mediocrity that you're considered, "edgy." Yeah, so is taking a #2 at the gas station before the last Bay Bridge exit before Oakland. Creative, Damon, really? Yeah, if pregnant pauses were art, you'd be a Picasso! For Gods sake, dude, you want creativity? Ad-lib a little more than 5 minutes and chuck your "bits"--otherwise you're essentially, slightly more interesting than the Bay Area Sports Guy's take on Jed York's bowel movements.

.*Jan Wahl: In reality, the Bay Area's version of "Yentl"--a certifiable, annoying mega-dose of complete YENTAISM ...Wahl is the reason why many Jewish men kill themselves --because a relationship with a Wahl is tantamount to torture and mayhem. We can't take it anymore! OMG, too, it's that voice! And everything else too. ATTENTION! Calling out all shiksas --there's a Wahl coming. Beware of Hat woman.

*Roberta Gonzales: Oh, dear lord, where do I start? Another yenta who talks to us as if we were third-graders at the local PTA night...The gushing, the golly-gee, the sophomoric fake chatter with insincere "Go A's" thrown in; I used to back you dear, I used to be an ally. Now I'm lost in all your fake world. Grow up, eat a cheeseburger, have a cocktail or two, Holy smokes.

*Mike Nicco: Seriously, what moron at KGO-TV hired this schmuck? I'm serious, this guy makes Lloyd Lindsay Young seem like Stephen Hawking. There's no there, there, no originality, nothing, but air.

  4. What about Jeff Ranieri, KNTV weatherman? To me, he is the worst over the top weather douche on TV. Hard to beat Kate Scott as the worst voice on radio. Can not stand her phony ass radio voice and can't punch the dial fast enough when I hear her.

  5. Fucking hilarious! Fucking unbelievable! And so fucking true! Everyone that got a piece of Dick Lieberman so deserved it. Especially that Kate Scott. Who the hell does she know? No talent. No substance. No nothing. Geddouttahere you day old bagel with stale lox on it.

  7. Why does Powlie Mac still have a job?

One schmuck you should add: Dave "OJ's bud" Clark. Phony and obnoxious. He should go back to Mordor and take Gasia Mikabigboobs with him. Maybe we can swap them for Marla Tellez?

    1. Agreed. No connection with the viewers, and everything he does appears forced and awkward. And what's with those hand gestures that have absolutely no relation to what he's saying. Did you catch his "Guys and Dolls" suit on Friday morning?

    2. Agreed x 2 re: Powlie. The "morning show" is unlistenable. Is that a word? Spell check says no. Anyway, Powlie is a joke. Annnd we get hear Kate in the same time slot as well? Reasons 1 and 2 why I don't listen. Reason 3, of course, is Kars for Kidz. Hmm, that might be reason 1...

  9. Wow did someone piss in your Wheaties this morning Rich?
You are on a roll and I love it. I could not agree more.

I have never heard Kate Scott tell me something about sports that I already knew. She adds nothing.

  10. You're spot-on Rich. All of these deserve your withering assessment. Especially Cumulus/KNBR which is completely unlistenable. I would be curious to see a graph that shows the ratio of commercial ad time vs actual programming. It must be off the charts now. I also assume this is happening in most all other major markets.

I've given up trying to listen to sports radio and have now switched to classical stations and NPR.

  11. When the Chronicle hired Killion from the Mercury, I asked myself, "Why?" She was the worst columnist at that paper when they had a strong sports columnist squad. As for Folsom, KRON was actually playing her yelling about the recent Oakland fire as a radio promo for their station. It was almost like they didn't want people to watch their news if that's what their idea of astute anchoring is. I don't know who encourages Paulie Mac's song parodies? Murph seems to enjoy them, but they hit the trifecta of unlistenable - not clever, not funny and sung off-key.

    1. Anne Killion was doing Independent writing for SI, and her own Blog after she left the SJ Mercury before the SF Chronicle picked her up in 2012.

And by the way Rich I like Anne Killion, & Roberta. But I do believe that Trump is a certifiable "Smuck."

    2. I never understood how Killion had a career after the Murky News. I remember meeting her on Jan Hutchins's show back in the day and just recall how little she knew of the local sports scene.

And I agree, I don't think Jan Wahl realizes how much she embarrasses herself. I guess she has to have an income to support her hat habit. :)

    3. What bothers me the most about Ann is her smugness when she is on the CSN sports shows. Like her sh*t doesn't stink and she knows all the answers.

Wrong. That'd be Darya, who you also correctly skewered, but I'll take a week of Gasia over ten minutes of the Taco Bell chihuahua any day. But then you bring up Ross Palombo, who's pretty close on the all-time-awful scale too.

    So many options. Sigh...

  13. Some of what you say is true about A&G. I like them, but one reason is that I'm from Michigan, and they sound like people I knew back in Michigan or Ohio. You may be surprised how many of us are transplanted residents for various personal reasons.

  16. AS if most of your mentions aren't bad enough, I especially despise Radnich & Darya. But all time worst is Jan Wahl, w/no credentials except from an uncle's mention decades ago & riding on zero coattails. It's uncomfortable & awkward to hear her when she calls in to Talk Shows &/or appears on TV. She never seems to GET how much she embarrasses herself.

  17. Rich explained it well. The stations hire these kind of obnoxious, low talent folks, mostly because they're cheap and the stations could care less about quality anymore. Since deregulation in the mid 1990s, have you noticed that the overall quality of broadcasting in the bay area, and the country at large, has fallen way off. The problem is, there are very few small or medium market radio or TV stations out there that hire minor league talent anymore. It used to be that is where broadcasters cut their teeth, If you could make it in Fresno, then you'd have a shot at Sacramento. If you could make it in Eugene, then you'd get your chance at Portland. And then after another couple of years in those low-key major markets, you might get a shot at a station in SF or LA.

Nowadays, they seemingly hire people right out of college, or off the street for crying out loud. These folks are not talented enough to make it in show biz, but they can do the 'snappy patter,' (that's Radnich's forte by the way), they might look reasonably good or sound distinctive on camera, and they desperately want a shot at some minor notoriety. Most importantly, they're cheap. Hence the quality is suffering and why Rich is talking about is sadly a sign of the future for the broadcast industry, not only here but around the country. Is it any wonder that seemingly half of America's citizens are semi-literate and attention challenged after watching and listening to this kind of noise and nonsense, not only nationwide, but here in the Bay Area?

    1. Thanks for thinking about these things. A real sign of the times. Imagine being in another industry, and being told that excellence or respect or consistency or even customer loyalty have no bearing on your continued employment. Forget what you know, and how well you can do your job. If you can do something to create (momentary) buzz, you can stay. Act like you love and live social media- act what you perceive as 'young' or socially relevant. But make sure it's 'of the moment.' Toss away logic, research, and perspective, and adopt the mantra of the 8-second attention span. It doesn't matter whether it's actually true. Someone said it. It's hard to knock anyone in today's 'business' for trying to adapt to the commands of their employers. But it's really too bad.

  18. In that picture, Damon looks like he missed the gas station and took the #2 in his pants.

  19. Rich, I know you're ripping a lot of folks here and that's your prerogative and what makes your website fun to read, but can I just get in a positive comment about a friend? I think Marty Lurie does a terrific job with his Giants pre and post games shows on the weekend. Yes, they are probably too long, but Marty brings in his own sponsors and they pay him, and KNBR gets the benefit of the set-up because they don't have to pay Marty a penny and actually make money selling some spots on his show. But he has control of what he does and he loves baseball, understands the game and has great interviews. I could do without the segments that feature 'P-Con' but I realize that doing 3 hours before every weekend game can be wearying, so I guess Marty can be forgiven for bringing on this noisy redneck who is not a big baseball guy. I don't know if anyone remembered that Marty did a similar show on the weekends with the A's from the late 1990s through about 2010, but A's management gave him zero support and help. Larry Baer loves this guy and with good reason. Marty is calm, smart, works hard and even though he's not controversial or explosive, he actually talks about baseball, and not all of the nonsense we hear on so many other sports talk shows.

    1. I agree that Marty Lurie is an intelligent, knowledgeable radio host. He brings perspective and insight to his listeners, plus he actually lets callers talk without being condescending, or disrespectful. KNBR and the Giants are wise to carry his show.

      Delete
    2. I agree with the take here on Marty Lurie. Marty lets his callers have a voice and he doesn't cut them off if they don't agree with him. Moreover, Marty knows his stuff, from the big league club, all the way down to the Giants farm system prospects. I'd rather listen to him any day of the week over some of the mediocrities that are hosting weekday shows on KNBR

    1. Regarding Palombo's ears:

In my opinion, there is excessive outward helical curvature. This produces negative esthetic impact on scaphal formation. Viewing both ears, note the marked inconsistency with regard to protrusion. This certainly isn't the Golden Age for ear shapes in the Bay Area news market.
