860 AM Doesn't Deliver The Answer; New Radio Station is Vanilla Pudding

I had to listen to the new radio station, 860 AM "The Answer" (KTRB) which wasn't exactly the kind of answer I was looking forward to listening to.

860 AM is nothing more than an ultra-right, conservative to the max with emphasis on uber-tea party ideas and discussion. It's dominated by syndicated and non-local hosts of the usual tripe: lots of blowhard, Hugh Hewitt in the morning. A daily slice of "I-Love-Jesus" advocate, Mike Gallagher, and double blowhard and frequent TV pundit, Dennis Prager. So much for variety. The Answer is about as forward-thinking as a dirty ashtray. And the fact there's no local show speaks volumes about its owner's (Salem Broadcasting) ultimate intention.

Hugh Hewitt
860 AM has no unique feature. It's a run of the mill AM outpost dominated by a core host of conservative stalwarts with vanilla wafers content. There's nothing exciting, interesting, or entertaining for the ears. Its political bent has nothing to do with its boring and mundane offerings. The Answer would be boring even in a Modesto strip mall. There's also a very strong religious undercurrent to this radio station --nothing against religion but this sort of broadcast proselytizing isn't very kosher in my book.

Go ahead and give a listen just be sure to bring some ketchup sauce because this outlet needs a lot of seasoning.

  2. 860 used to be KTRB country in Modesto before they moved the signal to the bay area. Not in a strip mall though..

  3. They run local morning host in L.A. and San Diego, it can be pretty entertaining when they go into extreme "right field". heck the Riverside outlet(590 KTIE) even supports an afternoon local show.

    They try.

  4. Disagree-Yes, it's thankfully conservative with a group of very professional hosts. You might have noticed that the liberal clap trap has largely disappeared from the bay area air waves. However, it it still festers in your demented mind and thrives in the traditional alphabet media along with the SF Comical, New York Slimes and Washington Compost. As Savage says, liberalism is a mental disorder.

  5. Rich, I wonder what the station charges for spots? Or does their revenue come from barter programs? Considering the existing number of established stations offering right-wing talk, KTRB must only be charging pennies per minute to have a competitive cost-per-thousand. Overhead as part of same-market group ownership can't be much more than the cost for running an equipment rack and transmitter.

  7. I've solved the whole Bay Area market radio problem ... And it was so simple. I just don't listen anymore ... to any of it. I fall asleep with Sirius Xm tuned to a soft music channel and just drift off. Life is good not having to let all this petty nonsense bother me.

  8. Rich, your hard left bias shows badly. Hewitt runs the most intelligent show this side of Savage. And he's much more moderate than Savage. Sure, he's partisan, everyone is. Those who claim otherwise are lying. Listen to Hewitt's weekly talk with Larry Arn on Fridays. The best hour on radio, certainly in the socialist bay area.

    1. I have tried to listen to Dennis Prager a few time, I agree he is very boring (like Trump, and I'm no Trump fan, would say low energy) on top of his very slow delivery he blames liberals for everything. Even suggest that nothing the Democrats has done ever has helped the US. Sounds more than biased to me, also sounds like he wants to live in a dictorship, as long as it is his side who are the dictors. SCARY>

  10. The reason that 'liberal' talk is not popular on the air waves is because it's not 'entertaining' enough. Most right wing hosts try to duplicate the bloviating nonsense of folks such as Limbaugh and Hannity, who have helped dumb down America with their over the top tripe and sensation-seeking style. Sadly, most listeners of radio and watchers of TV these days are attention-challenged. They spend maybe five minutes at most listening or watching and then flip around to something else, or get on their smart phones and call or text their peeps. The problem with liberal-style talk shows hosts is that because they take a more nuanced, calm approach, they're considered too 'boring' and don't have enough 'zing' as far as the consultants and PDs are concerned. BTW, to be a consultant or PD in radio these days, usually requires a limited intellect and a slavish devotion to upper management's wishes. Sadly, the majority of the American public buys into this dreck, and now we not only have a only naive public, but they are alarmingly not interested in real facts and stories, because those things aren't 'stimulated' enough. Radio talk shows have become cheap entertainment today, rather than programs that educate and inform. The only place you're gonna get that kind of programming on a regular basis is NPR, which isn't beholden as much to commercial interests and isn't run by dweebs who are more interested in ratings and 'sizzle.'

  11. That's an insult to vanilla pudding. :D I use vanilla pudding for my holiday pumpkin cheesecake, lol. BTW, I agree that the station is still useless, although I heard that Hewitt actually disagreed with Trump's recent gun and ISIL remarks.

  12. 870 The Answer here in LA has a pretty entertaining local morning show with Ben Shapiro and a progressive counterpart. Shapiro is a NEOCON for sure but he can't stand Donald Trump so it makes for some snappy banter during morning drive. Hugh Hewitt is no blowhard, he's well informed and spoken and will routinely call out the right for bad behavior.

  13. Hugh Hewitt has one of the best shows on radio imho. I listen to the podcast (3 hours later than 3am west coast time is still timely)in the am as a welcome replacement to the morning messes on our ksfo/kgo stations

  14. 860 is 560 light. Both right-wing kooky radio which will rot your brain with crazy GOP propaganda. Something you you Trumpites are getting hard-ons from. Not much for us Libs to listen to anymore. Bring back Green 960!!

  15. nothing worse than hosts who "know" that they have all the answers to the world's problems...like praeger...a 2 time loser at marriage who insists on giving relationship advice. a man who despises all liberals and insists conservatives have all the answers, despite reality showing its not true
the answer is a package of these syndicated blowhards for stations who dont actually care about ratings...the station in los angeles has a tiny audience....teeny tiny

people really need to look at the ratings for all these conservative stations...they are abysmal...people are bored with them
