KRON's Abysmal, Comical 'Coverage' of Fremont Police Standoff; Mass Weather Reports and Dumb Darya Supercede Crime Scene; Thursday Opener

JUST WHEN YOU'VE SEEN IT ALL, YOU SEE THIS...KRON's ABYSMAL, COMICAL COVERAGE OF FREMONT POLICE STANDOFF

The amazing KRON 4 --a collection of bozo brains masqueraded as a TV News operation.

The major story of the night and today (Thursday) is the apparent conclusion of the suspect who shot 2 Fremont cops, escaped and barricaded himself into a nearby house. The shooter is now dead.

Hours after the initial incident, all the major TV stations sent reporters, obviously, to the scene, including KRON. Every few minutes or so we heard that the situation was "fluid." Indeed it was, with police and county cops unaware of the shooter's whereabouts --that's when things started getting stupid at 10 PM.

I switched to KRON and wanted to see their new 10 PM Newscast cover its first major news story. After a fine opening with live coverage with Grant Lodes from the top of the show (with direct reports from the scene in Fremont )...Then things went from the sublime to the ridiculous ...KRON inexplicably went away from the scene to, get this, a weather report from Brittney Shipp who appeared as confused as she was giddy ---Shippwent on to do her report and plugged, amazingly,  "my next 7-day complete forecast." We have a suspect armed that has shot at 2 cops and KRON is plugging weather reports??! but, there's more!

KRON immediately and correctly went back to the scene in Fremont which still saw literally hundreds of law enforcement officials searching door-to-door for the suspect; a city and neighborhood locked down; frightened citizens unable to get to their houses and those that were in their house ordered by police to stay indoors and "shelter in place." It's, yes, damn fluid and ongoing, but don't tell KRON that.

KRON went away from the story ...for, YES, ANOTHER ...WEATHER REPORT ---by that all-engrossing, Brittney Ship, who proceeded to waste another 4 minutes with ANOTHER USELESS REPETITIOUS ...WEATHER REPORT. Who made this call? Better yet, what MORON would go away from an ON-GOING VITAL, 'FLUID" story involving LIVE pictures and images of a community under siege ...to go in-studio for WEATHER REPORTS!!? Talk about idiocy to the 10th degree.

Common sense is never a virtue at the so-called "News Center" --KRON4, an albatross station with a DUMB ND, mostly inane assignment desk people and news editors who obviously don't know when to think on their feet and possess a quarter brain if that.

To make matters even further WORSER --KRON had the chutzpah to endlessly plug their "KRON4 Mobile App" so "that when big news, 'breaking news' like this happen, you can get all the information here, at KRON4"

Tacky? Hey, remember its KRON.

This (Thursday) we got even more weather reports and the added bonus of watching Her Highness BozoBrain, aka, Darya Folsom, with her breathless, idiotic, moronic and confusing as hell descriptions of the scene. THIS JUST IN: Darya is a fool. Darya gets dumb and dumber.

Seems Darya was just damn mad as hell and irritated that "these poor folks outside aren't being allowed back into their homes!" Darya apparently has never been involved in a police standoff because she acted like a total nincompoop ---that, I'm not so shocked at.

KRON is not ready for primetime --KRON is more geared to weather reports and mojo-cams. They are not fit to cover a live, legitimate breaking news incident. Maybe, just maybe, they can cover a Ringling Brothers Circus --anything? SOL.

What a waste.

  2. Oh,this is rich-so to speak- I mention that Shipp's weather-casts like the other SF weather people are on the always low side for the eastbay. The VERY next kron cast? She left out the whole eastbay off the weather map from Oakland to Fremont and more!
    She showed me!

    1. Amen, Stan, Amen!!! I'll consult KRON Weather when the next time it will be when it rains so I can wash my ass.

  3. I'm glad you mentioned this because I thought the same thing watching the newscast this morning. I laughed out loud when Will Tran, the field reporter, asked the Fremont police spokesman about one of the officers who was shot and continued the interview by saying, "We'd like to humanize the officer." Sounded like straight producer-speak to Tran. Obviously, that's the goal of the interview, but he didn't need to say it to the interviewee or the viewing audience. Duh.

  4. Well...at least they have the world according to GARE to make up for it.

  5. Then you've got Fox2 (KTVU is dead to me) this am with their live shot of some shopping center wall and a wisp of smoke flowing over the top. At least KRON had a visual of the house/cops/firefighters. Didn't some news producer monitor the other stations and think "Maybe we could move over there and shoot what every other station was shooting"? But at least we have a 7 day weather report, so there's that.

    1. To be fair, they had team coverage. Someone ( I forget- woman) was at the house scene and Christian Kafton (Who Rich never mentions- seems like he should be on an anchor desk somewhere) was at the Auto Zone. One of the initial incidents occurred there.

  6. Yes Darya was revolting complaining about the plight of the home owners. The police are making the best of a bad situation and making sure that no one else gets shot. Boobs bigger than her brain.

  7. KRON is just sticking to their schedule and format (whatever it is).

  8. Will Tran reporting, stopping in the middle of what he was saying, with "there's another popping sound"...*sigh* Who taught this kid how to report?! By the way, I can barely distinguish Tran's voice from Sissel's voice...what gives?

They kept saying breaking news...yeah, it's been breaking for hours, let's just quit with the weather reports, and Darya's blathering. OF COURSE PEOPLE CANNOT GET BACK INTO THEIR HOMES...THERE WAS A SWAT TEAM AFTER A GUY WHO SHOT POLICE, TEAR GAS, FIRE!!! Geez! Move on to something else, lady. You were decent way back when you started at KRON, but those days are long gone...and take Used Bentley Man with ya.

I think Darya and Gasia are somehow related...

    1. Wow I was just thinking the same thing...

It is easier to watch the eye candy with the sound off and the captioner on...

    2. Darya is eye-candy?!??

As for Breaking News, yes, KRON seems to think if it happened anytime this century it's "breaking."

  9. I wanted a quality report so I went first to NBC (11). They had some good continuity with reporters and even tying the weather into the scene (hot day, mild at night). I saw KRON was staying on the report at the scene this morning. While they did have some facts that were new to me, Will Tran's "play-by-play" report was too much for me. Just give me the report and don't talk my ear off. My 2 cents.

    1. Glad I wasn't the only person annoyed with Tran's Play-by-play...I think he's been sneaking over to KTVU, and drinking Gasia's highly caffeinated coffee!

  10. Was it as tasteless as Frank Somerville's incessant ramblings practically wanting one of the Officers to die? Especially during the 5 PM newscast, it was unacceptable and disgusting.

  11. And kron still had their infomercials during their newscast.

  12. What is with KRON and there stupid camera shot from a rafter shot of Grant Lodes who is standing at the far end of the studio next to the broken studio equipment while giving "morsel of updates to fill in Radnich's sports segment. There is no direct camera facing poor Grant and he has to wave his hand high in the air to be acknowledged by the camera on the rafter. Unless Grant turns his head, we only see the back of Grant's suit and the back of his head.

  13. I got it, Rich. KRON 4 should be renamed to:
    KRAP 4 THE BAY AREA

  14. My mother lives 200' away from the point of initial contact, and we were locked down until this a.m. There were HUNDREDS of PD from virtually every agency on the scene, including a chainsaw of helicopters circling overhead. They were clearly equipped with IR, because any time you stepped out into the backyard, they'd make a turn. ACSO and the Fremont PD were justifiably busier than hell, but for those immediately affected, there just wasn't enough information being disseminated. How many suspects? How many shooters? Yeah, we're locked down, but if one of those f-ers comes through the yard, there's going to be another shooting scene. Leaving people in what appears to be a combat zone without information makes them nervous, and it makes EVERYONE less safe. So, it's not just the media that sucked...the incident commanders needed to do a better job of getting information out. The hourly no info tweets echoed from the ACSO via the FPD weren't cutting it, and they needed someone even from the Red Cross to come in and handle the displaced families.

Finally, the next time ANY newscaster/anchor asks "Do you have any sense of whether or not that head wound is life threatening?", he or she should have electrodes attached to their groin areas and asked "do you think this might hurt?"

  15. BTW, regarding the "boobs bigger than her brain" comment. That was true before the boob job.

  16. Rich, very good assessment and evaluation of the KRON coverage regarding the Fremont shooting incident.

Yes, KRON was all over the place, incoherently broadcasting all sorts things that could of have waited until much later. A very fluid situation was taking place in Fremont... and they neglected the coverage that should have been delivered in a methodical, consistent and concise way. What were they thinking?? Were they on drugs??

On the flip side, yesterday I was live-streaming KTLA's coverage of the UCLA shooting. Now KTLA, a station with super high ratings in the LA area during the morning hours, dropped all the happy talk bullshit, the entertainment reports, weather, and only covered traffic in and around the UCLA campus. It was excellent reporting, and they STAYED with the story -- from the ground and in the air with extraordinary chopper shots and descriptive reporting from the helicopter's vantage point. They are real good at that. Perhaps KRON could learn a lesson or two from KTLA -- actually pretty much all of the Bay Area stations could learn something from them, especially when covering a live, intense, and very fluid news story.

  17. I had to shut it off. The cringeworthy reports on the scene did it for me. Watching that gave me a bad case of douche chills.

  18. I've rarely commented, but KRON is beyond disaster (poor Pam Moore!). I no longer watch anything except Pam, but more infrequently. I really & truly don't see why ANYONE would watch Darya or Radnich. Does anyone know if KRON is still financially strapped because of airing Dr. Phil? Getting rid of Darya & Radnich salaries could give KRON a tremendous boost!
