WHAT a REFRESHING SIGHT to see news and information mixed with simple, ordinary, and SINCERE conversation--genuine too.
Frank Mallicoat debuted on KTVU's "Mornings on 2 Weekend" --along with co-anchor, Claudine Wong, the newscast was sharp, crisp and yes, watchable, for a change.
Mallicoat worked well with Wong and seemed to have instant chemistry which bodes well for the program. More importantly, the pacing and gist of the show seemed to work.
It's amazing what happens when you place an experienced newsman who has good presence on the screen and seems to possess authenticity--a rare element on Bay Area TV airwaves in the morning domain.

I agree, roger that, but I am still pissed. I haven't received my home delivered of the East Bay Times for two days now, the World sucks!

Fox hasn't gotten to him yet for Reprogramming, so enjoy this anomaly while it lasts.
He should co anchor with Sal Castaneda.
ReplyDelete..... Send that Gasia to the traffic desk !
where she can gobby gook on traffic. Whine about back ups. Etc.
I hope Palombo is delegated to cleaning Tardnich's Bentley. ASS!!!
ReplyDeleteI concur it worked well. Now they have to fix the MO2 weekday edition.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the new blog. Really enjoy the new guy who took the old Rich's place. No sarcasm, bitterness...and not a single Bentley, pirate or nnnnnnnnn mention. Aunt Claire must be a special lady. 415 is "must read" again.
ReplyDelete"LOVE the new blog"
Delete..back to normal after Mother's Day, I'll bet.
I did not see any difference. Claudine has always carried the newscast. The co-host has never mattered.
ReplyDeleteAs for 12:12PM, Sal should be on the way out. He makes lots of mistakes.
I watched Frank Mallicoat this morning and thought he did a marvelous job. He can help rebuild KTVU's diminished news reputation. Move him to weekdays in good time and I'm sure great things will happen.
ReplyDeleteMy wife saw him on this morning. "Hey, that guy from Channel 5 is on Channel 2." I gave her a quick rundown courtesy of this blog. Her response: "Well its nice to see the good guys win once in a while."
ReplyDeleteI'm glad they just up and did this. Not any "guess who's coming, wait to see who we've got in store for you" like they did with Hair Toss DLC.
It's called, "Newsical Chairs."
DeleteI caught Frank this morning for about 10 minutes. He'd be better off as a "Single"
ReplyDeleteWatching this morning. Infinitely better than any other local AM team. Very watchable and comfortably already.
ReplyDeleteHe is such an improvement- now to the weekday mornings- love Sal and Steve. I have been wondering what was going on at KTVU thanks to this blog for explaining.
ReplyDeleteI didn't watch this guy on KPIX and though he's better than Palumbo, the overall weekend MO2 production is still miserable. The new Kenny guy on PIX is pretty good but he is surrounded by mediocrity. How has no one commented on Chris Nguyen. He's a good reporter but is an awful anchor. The continuous full mouth grin is beyond annoying. What happened to Carolyn Tyler? And no Ken Wayne on Saturday nights? Gawd, do these incompetents running local news actually ever watch the dreck they are pumping out? Ken Wayne at 7pm is a complete waste. He should be anchoring the 10pm weeknight news. Wayne is the best thing on KTVU.
ReplyDeleteMallicoat should replace Gasia. She's getting worse every day!
ReplyDelete@ 10:27, You're right about the reprogramming...this station is becoming 'FOXentology'...
