Yes, KPIX is Flaunting its Super Bowl 50 Coverage But You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet

FEW PEOPLE would begrudge KPIX's incessant pre-Super Bowl blitz of ads, news, promos and presentation--after all, it is the Super Bowl, the biggest game in America and whose audience traditionally tops well over 100 Million people.

We get it, the unofficial national holiday on the first Sunday in February and this year, the special 50th Super Game.

OK, fine.

But then KPIX has gone over the top, no surprise here. Mildly, but just enough to cause mass irritation. Look, a Beyoncé addition to the halftime show is legitimate news, no problem there. But countdown clocks, repeated "stories" that are really no more than splashy advertisements gets to be a drag particularly when such news is driven down the throat on a daily basis.

Even Joe and Jennifer Montana, as big as they are, are not worthy of repeated plugs and notices.

Again, we acknowledge that PIX is lucky enough that the 50th Super Bowl happened to fall on CBS' time to air the game and yes, of course the game is in Santa Clara.  I can only imagine what KTVU would be bringing us had it been FOX's turn on the rotation. Thank God for that.

I'm going out on a limb that as the game gets closer you're going to see a helluva lot more stories about Santa Clara, parking lots, VIP booths and hospitality suites. That's about 20 minutes right there.

Leave it alone, Lieberman. It will only be around now for a month, only happens once a year, and won't be back for many, many years if at all. Too much more to get worked up over.

    1. Hey 6:13, leave Lieberman alone & go ride your cute little fucken pee-pee scooter down to the Mini-Mart & get some more Benadryl. "Santa Cruz Blue Water"? Hmph, more like Brown Water, you stank ass.

  3. Fully half of KPIX's 5pm 'news' has to do with the Super Bowl - whether news or promo or spots - leaving only fifteen minutes of their 'newscast' for NEWS.

A further irony, they have Elizabeth Cook in the thick of things. (Does she have a clue as to the difference between futbol and football?)

  4. As long as I get my team storm coverage ("Well, Veronica, the rain is really coming down here in Menlo Park. Hows the rain at the fountains in Walnut Creek?")why should I sweat a lack of usable news?

  5. Don't forget the angle of "potential terrorism". Have they covered that already? If ISIS wanted to create a national panic they'd jam the signal on super bowl sunday. America would go nuts!

  6. Hope it rains like a mother fucker on Super Bowl Sunday. Ruin it for the idiots who paid $8k for tickets, and we can also use some rain after years of drought. BTW, parking's a bargain at $135 and there's a $700 tailgate menu with Guy Fieri. Suckers.

    1. And it will be sold out, with record TV ratings. Does that get your panties in a wad?

  7. The reportable incidents of domestic violence against women spikes on Super Bowl Sunday, or so I heard.

  8. Imagine that, KPIX is promoting a major event they'll be broadcasting. Outrageous.

  9. Idk about anyone else, but I am sick & tired of Roberta saying in the mornings on KPIX..."AND THERE'S LEVI'SSS STADIUM, HOME OF SUPERBOWL 50 THAT YOU CAN CATCH ON KPIX 5!!!"

I for one will be glad when the whole damn thing is done & over...

  10. This is just like KGO and the constant stream of Star Wars "stories"...they turned half of the bleeping "news" into a Disney commercial.

  11. During Sunday's game, it looks like KPIX bought, or was given - who knows? - 10-15 second segments showing individuals on their news team in a gold hue holding gold footballs. It looks schlocky.
