You can breathe again: The worst TV News experiment in the history of the universe has come to an end.
Mercifully.
UPDATE: At lease, that's what she's alluding to, here.
KPIX 's sister KBCW has done away with "Nightbeat", the 10 PM newscast that 6 or 7 people have been watching. When it's officially done, no one knows. Some variation will continue to flaunt the airwaves but it be devoid of NB's awfulness. Thank God.
NB's host, Veronica De La Cruz, according to my 5 spy, has told people that the show "sorry to say" is no more.
Yo, Veronica: The show was a disaster. I said it numerous times. Your own staff said the show sucked from the very beginning.
Everyone loves innovation and technique, but this crap? Are you kidding me?
From its very inception the show had no chance --the bozo brains at PIX thought the social media crowd would look at a news program that catered to its liking, only problem is the content was putrid and the newscast was chock full of gimmicks that never measured with viewers.
You can't shove a plate full of chipped beef in front of people and expect it to be a porterhouse steak.
The Bay Area TV News community is now a better place. The healing process has begun. Nightbeat is done, and better yet, so is this.
GAME OFFF!

Great!
ReplyDeleteSo what bigger turd will replace it?
Better act fast cuz we are in sweeps.
as a retired navy man..i must say..chipped beef (SOS) ain't bad..
ReplyDeleteAh Yes, Chipped Beef...good stuff, thanks for the memories...which reminds me, time to poop. It's gonna be a big one!!
DeleteMe too Navy. Best part about the food, I didn't have to cook it. I hate to cook. Whenever I feel like cooking, I lay down on the couch until the feeling goes away. Yes, I am skinny. Go Navy!
DeleteYour numbers are all wrong. You need to hire an accountant. The correct numbers are 3 or 4, not 6 or 7.
DeleteI remember when Frank Costanza got cocky and overseasoned. His entire platoon got sick.
DeleteChipped beef? WTF? In the Navy?
DeleteAs airmen we were served SOS with GROUND beef, in a cream sauce, over white toast, of course.
Good stuff!
So now VDLC is the victim of a looser show. She want's to go back to NYC???
ReplyDeleteThe girl is stuck here...most likely on a 2 year contract that's running out...
The rent is killing her, and her agent keeps ditching her calls.
"I got nothing for you." he says because everyone is being laid off and working for scraps.
Another "spokesmodel" moved and dumped in the BA...like so many others before her.
KRON pulls that move on females all the time.
Move and dump!
Maybe you can keep you5 415 cellphone # as a token of your BA visit.
Next victim please....
Why they dragged her all the way from NY and paid a king's ransom and put up with her delays and special demands is a mystery to me. Go to any 2-year college and you'll find a dozen "ethnic" females with looks who want to be on TV and have nearly her resume already, and they'll work for 1/4 what she will and you don't have to wait for them to relocate. Why they just didn't go to Mills or Peralta or San Mateo CC is something I do not understand.
DeleteNext sober move should be to send the fake diva, her Tweety smart phone, and her hair back to New York.
ReplyDeleteHair gets a separate plane ticket and flies in First Class
DeleteActually, I give credit to KPIX/KBCW for at least trying something to move the needle in a a very difficult media environment. Obviously the experiment did not work in either ratings or revenue terms but at least they tried. So far the majority of the time on this blog there is very negative criticism by Rich and vehement responses by some of the readers usually attacking others. Attacks are easy but solutions are much much harder. Have you any real positive and concrete suggestions to improve the Bay Area media landscape?
ReplyDeleteA good first step might have been to do surveys and focus groups of Millennnials to see what they want?!? Instead of a bunch of 50-60 something farts deciding for them?!? How's that for a "solution"? Marketing 101. But it's already over the head of managers who make six figures a year and live in Marin.
DeleteHow do you know they didn't, despite the product we got?
DeleteCan't do surveys and focus groups with MEllennials. That would draw them away from their cell phones, selfie sticks, and vanity mirrors.
DeleteIf she hurries Miss Schertz can make it back to NYC to report on Thanksgiving turkey give-aways in Bed-Stuy.
ReplyDeleteBUH-BYE!
Actually... I'd rather they put "The Simpsons" and "Family Guy" reruns in the 10 O'clock spot on (KBHK) 44 than news... At 10 when I want news, I got to Channel 2.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't that long ago I watched Star Trek at 10pm on channel 44! Bring it back!!!
DeleteJust show movies 24/7. They might be surprised by the increase in viewership.
ReplyDeleteHeck, even televising people getting root canals 24/7 would be better than that program.
DeleteJim Gabbert's TV-20 dogs-turning-their-heads-on-cue would pull in higher ratings than the crap that poses as local TV news these days...
ReplyDeleteWow, I was going to say the same thing. Chipped beef on toast ... known in the US Army as SOS (s#itt on a shingle).
ReplyDeleteYes my WWII Navy veteran father used to serve it to us, always called it s _ _ t on a shingle!
DeleteSo is VDLC next to go, once all the maternity leaves end after the New Year or after the Super Bowl coverage? Plenty of options inside the newsroom. Don't have to look far to make it fit.
ReplyDeleteWhere am I suppose to get my airport code information now?
ReplyDeleteWell, Rich, you are great at splashing disaster all over local media. Me thinks you resent somebody who way back when, I assume, fired you. Not sure of your history. This is all rather tiring, and I wonder if I will ever totally break the habit of checking out your latest put downs. Really, most of them are not nearly as bad as would have us believe. On second thought, most of the talk show hosts we have are pretty lousy. So, there's one for you.
ReplyDeleteRich is correct. This was "the worst TV news experiment." KPIX tried and failed, but the failure is principally the result of the producers and executives who concocted the experiment itself, and not entirely that of the poor schnook who didn't have the sense to run screaming when she was told what her job offer required of her. Unfortunately, we're going to see much more of that. Young people who want to pursue a career in television news are no longer required to spend necessary time in small markets, where honing your skills was once as important as learning the power of your voice.
ReplyDeleteI always thought Milt Kahn was the worst news experiment in the Bay Area.
ReplyDeleteI miss (and await the return) of Elizabeth Cook. Might it re-calibrate our views?
ReplyDeleteMaybe Maria medina can give it a shot.
