Exclusive: Connecticut Weather Forecaster To Replace Christina Loren; Kari Hall Joins NBC Bay Area; 415 Media Inside Story

I'm going to tell you who replaces Christina Loren at NBC Bay Area: it's Kari Hall from News12 in Connecticut --my San Jose spy confirmed she's already in the South Bay at the KNTV building getting acquainted.

*I don't know much about Hall but she comes to the Bay Area with a salary considerably less than what Loren was making; money was NOT the biggest factor in hiring Hall, but just enough .

*Hall is African-American; she's also known as someone who "won't rock the boat." Loren wasn't an it-disturber by any means but she was also fiercely independent --read that as you will.

*A source told me management might have been less than thrilled that Loren may have been looking at "other opportunities" down the road--just in case she was dealt cards handed down by NY and San Jose. (She was).

*Fact: KNTV had a stagnant ratings report during the recent sweeps that just ended. So did KTVU, who recently hired a young up-and-comer anchor to broadcast their new 4 PM News. No, it's not a coincidence that Keba Arnold is an African-American woman, just like Hall. Put two and two together.

*With her proven track record and viewer (male) popularity, Loren will land on her feet somewhere soon and most likely in a big market, maybe even the Bay Area too. Stay tuned.

    1. Give it a rest, dude. We've all figured out that you hate everyone who's not a white male.

    2. There's more to it than that, and this is almost always where decisions settle, down around the bottom line. The internet has done quite a bit of damage to television in the last three years, and air talent who work for less is more desirable. So, maybe "less is more" (as long as the comparison is between apples and oranges). Of course, one way of looking at the situation is it's better to have a lesser job than no job at all.

    3. 11:04, I like Claudine Wong, Gasia Mikaelian, liked Janice Huff back in the day, thought Lloyd LaCuesta did a great job, and on and on. I thought Leslie Griffith was a joke as an anchor, can't stand Heather Holmes, and find Ken Wayne annoying.

But don't worry, go on with your stereotyping, and keep on preaching "diversity", even though you seem to hate white Christian people of either gender.

    4. 5:54/9:54, when you write "HR/"diversity"/PR hires", you're showing your (excuse the expression) true colors. If you want to criticize individuals based on their lack of talent, or your perceptions about their on-air (or off-air) performance, that is fair game. But keep it to performance or behavior, and leave the sideways references to color, gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation out of it.

And btw, I've never written comments in this board "preaching diversity". I'm from NYC originally and my own elbows are plenty sharp. I usually post here myself under "Anonymous". But I resent when someone hides behind "anonymous" to repeatedly insult entire groups of people; that's just cowardly.

    5. I prefer a strong Caucasian male type with good hair when I get my news. It just adds validity.

    6. No entire groups of people were insulted. You on the other hand exemplify what so many people generalize about NYC folks. That's not a insult of an entire group, just your presumptuous nose in the air self. Go eat a bagel.

  3. Loren was about as fake on camera as her boobs and lip fillers. Good riddance! I stopped watching KNTV when Jon Kelley left. Nice to see some diversity on KNTV.

    1. Ah, "diversity". Tell me, do you hate just white people, or are you an equal opportunity bigot?

  4. Too bad Raddy is already married.

  5. I suspect that it actually is a coincidence that both Keba Arnold and Kari Hall are black.

Having spent some years in Columbus, Tiffin, and Westerville Ohio, I have to agree, but I mean it as a compliment. "Someone dressed professionally, and ready to do the job. No dreadlocks, hoop earrings or blouses open down to 'there'.

    2. Funny. A few times here I've mentioned that KNTV's news production reminded me of something I'd expect to see in Toledo.

    3. Because you normally see dreads and hoop earrings on a weather reporter? More quasi racism from another chump on Big Rich's blog! A real credit to the bay area you all are seriously!

  7. Rich, I find the scrawling news at the top of your page very interesting, but it's a big wiggly and it gave me a headache. I wonder if that can be fixed. :)

  8. I reside out in the Tracy area, and since the FCC "makes" us view "only" the 2nd rate Sacramento local News, even though we are closer in miles to SF, than Sacramento?! SF/Oakland/SJ you do not know how good you have it after viewing Sacramento News...yuck!

So I have seen Ms. Arnold on TV, and she is pretty good. Hopefully the Sacramento will wear off of her once she gets to KTVU. I also hope that when Keba gets to the Bay Area she finds someone good to do her hair, because her weave is not done very well in Sacramento, imvho.

  9. Diversity is a code word for white genocide. If Loren replaced Hall, Hall would sue for racial discrimination.
