January '15 Radio Ratings; KCBS Solid #1

KCBS posted a big ratings January win--it is the undisputed #1 most-listened-to radio station in the Bay Area.

We should repeat that 6+ PPM rating are beauty contest numbers --this is not what the advertisers use to buy time on the radio.

Here's the full breakdown

  1. First time KCBS has posted a 7 share in PPM. Very impressive!

  2. I've been curious about Chuy Gomez's move to KVVF 105.7 as competitor (?) of KMEL. Any word on the success of KVVF's format change? They seem to be doing something different. I wish them well. I've always considered Chuy in the line of old school great DJs.

  3. I listen. I give high marks to their habit of short commercial breaks and more of telling me what I need to know now- like weather and traffic. Kind of old school. Just need teletype machine sounds as they deliver the news.

  4. The only reason it is number 1 is because radio is dead in the Bay Area.
Common sense says you will tune into the news station.
What Bay Area FM radio really needs is a KPOP station.
    There are none.
I want to hear the latest tunes from Sistar, Secret, Girls Day, Kara and many more KPOP groups.
Thats where the money and ratings are at.
These girl groups average 10 to 20 million hits on Youtube.
Surprised no stations in the Bay Area have figured that out yet.
They are missing out big time on KPOP.

I suspect those numbers are not really due to the way they sound. If there was a market for them on radio it would be happening.

  5. The call letters "KPOP" appear to be available. Any takers?

  6. What about Live 105 new morning show? Anyone else think it is unlistenable or is it just me?

  7. KGO likes being in the toilet or they wouldn't do one damn dumb thing after another. Otherwise they'd fix the problem, right? They drove away long time listeners who aren't coming back and what new listeners do they think they can attract. Penney pinching idiots.

  8. In 25-54, KCBS is tied for 5th place. Since it's unlikely that under-25s are listening in large numbers, KCBS must skew very heavily in 55+ adults. K101 won the category, and KOIT was 2nd.
